16kg Racetech on a '95 CBR900RR shock!

EDITED TO ADD:

I weigh about 195 without gear, so I'm guessing an additional 15lbs with jacket, pants, boots, glolves and helmet.

I think mine is an 1100#/inch (about 19.6kg/mm).

Edited to say: I weigh about 250# with gear. The spring has 1100 on it. I'm guessing it's #/inch. The 1100 spring seems to be a common for Penske. (I used 2.2046#/kg and 25.4mm/inch to convert.)

19.6kg/mm, damn, that's a heavy spring.

Can't tell you mine for sure, all I can tell you is it's an Ohlins marked 1092-69/170 409. I tried seaching for a way to decipher that number, but no luck. Maybe someone here can tell us what it means.

I weigh 220-230 all geared up, running 35mm of sag with the preload ajuster about 1/3 of the way in.

Tim, that's a 17kg spring, the same one I'm running.

Haven't checked sag just yet, or had a chance to give it any decent riding for evaluation. The shock it replaced was a 900RR variety with the 16kg spring on it.

Too weak for 2-up, IMO, but works great for solo riding.

I think going to get a 18.5 for the f4 shock im building , as it seems

like a good compromise and thats Phill from aftershocks recommended fr my weight 260 ish

WP shock with a 16 kg/mm spring and my weight is about 110 kg (half bird). I also tried an 18 kilo spring but there was virtually no sag and the bike had a very heavy feel.

In the front i run WP 1.1 kg/mm springs with 10W 138mm oil level (to resist bottoming).

The WP spring feels heavier than the Showa unit, but this is maybe due to the fact that the WP shock is way longer than standard (didn't measured it but more than 1.5cm).

1100# (19.7) on my Penske. I weigh 185 without riding gear.

My sag settings came right in at 10 mm. (bike only) and 35 mm. with me on the bike.

I think my sag is about 35mm with me on the bike. I haven't checked it since the day I mounted the shock. I'm running a heavier spring, but I weigh a lot more too.

What amount of rear sag are you running? Do you have any pre-load ajustment left?

You might try sending and e-mail to Penske. I did that when I bought the shock and they recommended settings and spring rates. Here's the e-mail address of the guy who responded to my inquiry.

For what it's worth, checking and correcting your sag (both front and rear) will also give you a good idea if your spring rate is correct.

If you adjust your sag with you on the bike (in full riding gear) to around 35 mm, then you should also check the sag without anyone on the bike. (free sag)

If you have no free sag at all after you have set your sag to 35 mm. with you on the bike, then your spring is to soft. If you have to much free sag, your spring is to stiff.

This free sag setting number is different depending on which suspension guy you talk to, but for the rear, the numbers that I have heard, are somewhere around 5 or 10 mm. (but you should have some free sag, or your shock/fork is topped out)

For the front end, that free sag number should be higher. You should have around 20 mm. free sag.
