aholexx
I CURRENTLY LOOKING AT A 97 BIRD WITH ABOUT 18K THE GUY IS ASKING 5300.00 I WAS WONDERING IF I SHOULD SPEND MORE AND GET THE FI MODEL.. AND IF THEY'RE ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE '97 MODEL I SHOULD BE WORRIED ABOUT.. I'M TRYING TO GET THIS BIKE BETWEEN 4-4.5K I APPRECIATE ANY ADVICE
v00d00child
My 97's got 33K, and no problems. Wish I had an FI model, but then carbs are pretty easy to tweak. I'd say 5K would be a good deal on it, assuming it's in decent shape.
pace
Asking price might be a tad high. I've had no problems whatsoever with mine, however. -Pace
BIG BOY
I think he's asking too much for it. Try to talk him down, if not look for another one if you can afford it.
Hookman49
I have a 97 with almost 43,000 miles. Not one problem except the CCT. Ken

aholexx
I'M PRETTY SURE THAT I'LL BUY THE BIKE, AS LONG THE PRICE IS RIGHT... ONE CONCERN OF MINE IS THE GAS MILEAGE I WILL RECEIVE ON THIS BIKE COMPARED TO THE FI MODEL... IT HAS A FULL HEADER SYSTEM AND THE CARBS HAVE BEEN JETTED.. I PLAN TO DO OUT OF STATE TRIPS WITH THE BIKE AND DON'T WANT TO STOP FOR GAS TOO OFTEN.. APPRECIATE ANY ADVICE
JJP XX
Advice? Buy mine! Totally stock. 44 mpg. 78k miles. $3000.
86gn
If the jetting was done properly you should still get good mileage. I average anywhere from the mid 30s to low 40s since mine has been rejetted. Expect to go 150 miles to near 200 between fill ups.
gcp
I paid $4200 for my 97 (26K miles) and except for the need of a CCT and a set of tires one would have thought it was practically new. It came with Corbins, GenMars & double bubble screen and boy does it run well!! Had a friend ride it yesterday and I was surprised at how good it looked coming into the parking lot  See pic below:
