These are two of the many reasons that I won't do a moto trailer.

Towed a 400lb R3 in the bed last week and it worked perfectly, although the tailgate had to be down the entire time. The range hit was minimal, probably 10-15%, but the truck handled great.

If I had to guess, the dedicated motorcycle trailer would definitely impact range much more.

Consider that there are speed limits for vehicles with trailers. For example, WA state is 60mph regardless of the posted speed limit. OR, MT and ID are 65. There are sections of highway in each of these states where you'll be going significantly slower than the rest of the traffic if you're adhering to the letter of the law.

I've towed my motorcycle all over the NW, including each of the aforementioned states and it's a bit irritating to be slower than the flow of traffic. I'd put it in a truck bed if you can. Does it fit, though?

And I guess, in the long run, maybe it's time to sell the TT and switch to a small toy hauler type, or the kind that have a front basket or rail for motorcycles.

The dude, not Swamp, is probably the only person in United States, that includes cops, who gives fuck about speed limit while towing small trailer.

And he is wrong. Montana, for example, has 75 mph speed limit for heavy trucks.  That would be 18 wheeler. Pretty much same in Idaho.

Can't imagine it would be lower for pick up towing small trailer.

I'm guessing real reason is retarded layout of charging stations. Very few are gas station type pull thru.  It either back aor pull in in case of EVs. That means dropping trailer every time you need charge. Very enjoying.

Same conundrum for me, except the bed is out (Excursion, and that's MY bed).  A hitch hauler was nearly perfect for what I did for a long time, even with the 990ADV.  But now there are at least two bikes.

The self-leveling would be an amazing benefit whichever way you go.  But Tom makes the likely accurate observation that no matter which one is on the carrier, it's the other one you'll want to use.  You'll be motherfucking that choice every time you have to drop the hitch hauler bike to get to the one in the bed.  Rivian may not have a place at the table yet in terms of aftermarket support, but there are those bed extenders that double as a ramp and work pretty well.  I may actually have one from a GMC if you want to try to retrofit it.

Final answer though - I'm with Tim. Though it is an additional piece of equipment to register, maintain, store, etc... it's just the best answer.  I'm slowly coming around to it myself, and it's painful because I like a simple, self-contained one-piece unit.  But it isn't simple anymore (or... again).  And that's okay, the benefits largely outweigh the negatives, just have to adapt.

Trailer would be my first choice as well as long there is convenient place to store it.

I know it is EV so range reduction when towing could be a bitch but Rivian punches much bigger hole in the air vs. Tesla 3, it should be almost none issue in case of small trailer.

My little utility 5x8 trailer has tilted bed, I don't even fuck with the ramp. No ramps.

Wheel chuck in the nose, couple straps, and, boom, ready to roll. About 20 % mpg drop, but I tow with Volvo XC70, essentially lifted station wagon. Not much of frontal area.

All that it is doing is nothing, brane/signal don't light up, tail light wheh headlights are on is also dead, but the sidelight marker nearest on the same wires, is working properly.

I'll check the tire again, but I've even used a spare and swapped the tires to different sides, I wonder if it's an inflation issue, the tires are rated for ~1100lb at 50 psi, I've run them as low as 25 psi because the weight of the bike and trailer are about 800lb.  Each axle is rated for 1400 lb also, I'm hoping the axles aren't the issue as they are torflex and it gets expensive to swap out parts on a trailer I might use twice a year.

Definitely ground issue. Taillight assemblies are grounded to the body of the trailer. I'd take a look there.

I have one on those tilting bed utility trailers. I got tired of chasing disappearing ground and run dedicated wire from electric plug to the bed of the trailer.

  4.  Would they fit side by side in the bed? If answer is yes I would not fuck with motorcycle carrier. I'd imagine securing hitch mounted one to prevent unwanted movement is PITA.

Also, if you keep one bike in the bed and another one on carrier, and you happen to want to use one in the bed you would have to remove one on carrier, etc. anyway. Too much work.

So, I would, if that is possible, load  motorcycles on the bed.

As a platform, she's a legend, but showing her age.  Everything has changed since she was designed and built.  She'll still leave you with a smile, but it's more nostalgic now than pure "wow" from performance.  Others have far eclipsed her.

Glad that yours went to someone who will enjoy it.  I'll ride mine this spring, then maybe list it locally.  Running out of room and I have projects that need garage space to get into.  That, and I no longer travel across the country alone to go to weddings and birthday parties.

I'm not nostalgic about ICE vehicles unless there is something unique in technical areas, design, etc.

So, I have second gen rx7 turbo, because of engine- Wankel. Turbine smooth.

Also, I still have 2004 R1. It was last generation with 5 valves. Yamaha went 4 valves starting in 2007. 5 valves offer unique, sharper throttle response due to the nature of intake flow of 3 valves vs. 2 valves.

We in era of pussification of motorcycle markets, 600s and 1000s race replicas don't sell, and Japanese are dropping those bikes one by one. I'll probably keep my cross plane 2016 R1 since it is, most likely going dinosaur. Unique engine design.

Gonna have to convert from track to street bike.

On the other hand I was not emotionally attached to XX, it was pretty typical bike for the era.

  6.  My personal phone is Verizon, work tablet T-Mobile. Outside of bigger population canters T-mobile sucks. Still.

About 25-30% of times I gotta upload pics and documents using my phone vs work tablet because it takes forever on latter in rural areas.

Same for Geotab or electronic logbook. It will loose signal here or there creating issues. T mobile. I've installed Geotab on my phone as a back up in case I got pulled over, cop wants to see my logs, and it happens in T-Mobile dead spot. it happened once, thinks Elvis cop was cool- " ok, I let you fix it, be back in 15"

So the law requires proper plate lighting, but also states that it's unenforceable?  What other trailer requirements fall into this non-enforcement thing?  And is this actually written law, or just something you've heard or assume that a cop would ignore?

I've pretty well proven that CA cops don't care about trailer license plates at all, I've done thousands of miles without one on any of my trailers.  But I won't tow one that's actually unregistered because it would be my luck that that's when I'll find the no-leniency cop that cites me and impounds my trailer.

You can always claim trailer is from Wisconsin. Title and plates are optional in the land of cheese.

  8.  Once upon the time I decided to start eating breakfast 🥞. Why? Because everyone says you supposed to do it.

Normally I don't eat shit till I feel like it, although strong coffee is mandatory first thing in the morning. So, no food for first 2-3 hrs after waking up.

During that experiment with eating proper breakfast I just ended up eating whatever I would normally eat, plus that breakfast. Fail. I went back to previous eating regime after couple of weeks.

I'd say all of us have natural eating clock, no need to change it. I'm just like my mother, we don't eat in the morning. She is 86 years old, and in very good health.

    Let the ridiculing begin....

FWIW, I'm buying this largely because IF I need to take the zero-turn mower anywhere, I'll need it.  I might as well use it for the motorcycle too.

The folding trailer would be worth it IF I could strap the BMW down symmetrically, but the position of the exhaust can and the shape of the rear drive prevents that.  I also don't care for how the folding trailer DOES NOT have springs separating the axle from the rest of the trailer.  I don't know if the lack of a spring causes damage on long hauls, but I've NEVER had an issue trailering a bike in the back of a pickup truck or trailer with a sprung axle.

I could see about an upgraded folding trailer, but since I need this for the mower, at this price I can't ignore it as the better option.

Lol. I told you to get something like that years ago when you were in full drama queen mode over transporting bimmer on your little pickup. Circle of life.

Btw back then you said there was no room for it in your yard.

Yes…clearly you didn’t read the PDF.  The inside spacer was crushed…this led me to believe I over tightened the bolt.

Not necessarily. Not saying you are wrong but sometimes spacers supposed to crash to establish proper clearance or lash, etc. Hence stupid tightening force. Remember, you are dealing with German Engineering don't try to apply logic.

...aaaand the Excursion batteries are at 1.5 volts.

First person to say "rat lives matter" gets a free overdose of Coumadin in their beer at the next meet.

Motherfucker sure is an overachiever.  Ima be as diligent in fixing his shit as he was in parting these wires.

Well, fuck. Definitely rat, not mice.

Is he still there or already left the ship? 🚢

  12.  Shittest, cheapest the brand, more runout. Usually, not always, of course.

I swapped my summer tires from bent rims onto donor's car good rims with shitty tires. Some Pirellis. All of them had massive runout. Nothing on my Goodyears.

Why I had to swap? That was back in November. Some fuckhead going in opposite direction turned left into my path at intersection. Long story short I went over the substantial curb at around 50 mph. Some air time, huge jump, scrapped underbody and towing hitch. Car survived intact except for rims bent. All of them.

     They build them good. Volvos.
