testrider
HI all, My 97 XX still has its original battery (it was sold on 98). After not riding it for 3 months, I recently took it out for a spin and found that the battery dropped to 11.7v and couldn't start. I recharged it with a battery tender and it started fine. What I found was that after I charged it for 24 hours, I let it sit for a couple of days and the voltage was 12.4v. It still started fine but I'm wondering if I should go ahead and replace it? I saw in my local Autozone store that they have a PowerSport battery for my XX (GTS-12BS) for $50. It came with tanks of acid that you're supposed to fill it and charge it after opening it. Is this good enough or should I get a Yaesu as the original? WIth this PowerSport battery, will I need to top off the acid from time to time? Thank you very much for any help. -Mike-
86gn
There was a thread about batteries in the last few weeks....try a search for more info. Mine had a Wal-Mart battery in it when I bought it and I have had no probs with it but some think the Yuasa is best. It shouldn't need acid added to it after the intial unless there is something wrong.
CBR-RR-XX-CESS
After four years I would say its on borrowed time. Every time I pushed the life of a motorcycle battery it would fail at the worst time. I would replace it. JS
cstucker45
you need to see if it is charging. do this by checking the volts before and after you start it(at the battery).the battery is probably bad but this is how to see if there is anything else wrong.you could put the hurt on a new battery if it was not charging.be hard to push start by yourself too.
