cgmiller83
I'm in need of an engine. Now I have a 97 bird but have found a 2000 engine. Can you put a 2000 in a 97 using the carbs, cdi, and harness from the 97.

Northman
Yes. The only physical difference in the engines is the FI units use a camshaft position sensor, mounted on the throttle side of the cylinder head. Just keep the sensor to plug the hole, and the rest is fine but you'll need to transfer all of the sensors & stator wiring from the carb engine. MrBadExxample
The 2000 engine will also have a knock sensor on it. Like the camshaft position sensor, keep it just to plug the hole. BTW, if you're interested I have an extra 97 XX engine.
runner
I have considered the switch many times to FI...but always try to keep headaches & gremlins to a minimum and keep carbed bikes w/carbs and FI with the FI system. Too many sensors to go wrong for me. Now, with the right guidance I could change my mind...
