I'll Tell You What.......

It sure is nice to see that this forum is still up. I think its been around 4 years since I dropped by. I noticed that i haven't even been dropped from being able to login. (Had to search for my screen name and got my password right the first time)Thats great. I see some of the old names from years ago. Hard core is all I can say, Hard core....

This forum can kinda be considered like religion, that the only time some ppl drop by is when they need something. Kinda like a C and E Catholic ( Christmas and Easter)

Well I guess I would be a H and I poster. Only when I need Help and Information.

Ok I applied the 1 hour rule before posting this and in the where and how to's; used my searching ability to locate all the information that I wanted. But trying to update my brain on the technical mumbo jumbo drove me straight loco.

To the Bike:

01 XX

15k K miles ish. Been out of the country off and on for a couple years. ( Not as beastie as most of you)

Other than the tires, brakes and oil changes no problems.....( ok one low side)

Move to Florida from California.

#1 Bike over heats, Need to flush coolant system and probably change thermostat.....I might as well get another oil change cause Im sure thats broke down.

#2 Yes the same chain and sprockets

A. the forum recommends this and that. With not a real consensus. Of what. Sprocket with 45t or ekzz or zzz, Chain this and that

#3 It took me about 15 minutes to figure out that sound is the front bearings. I guess I should do seals too? (I'm not a mechanic however extremely mechanically inclined.)

I like to ride when the government doesn't have me out roaming the earth on this and that mission.

I do enjoy First and Second gear and Alot of third. Alot of long flats out here in the Florida Pan Handle compared to the twisties of Topanga canyon, Sycamore Canyon and mullhulland in California.

The whats and where's is what I need. The part numbers and from what online company. I 'd like to ride before august is over..The dealer says this and that, the $$$$$$$$ keep climbing like an auctioneer selling crack cocaine on the streets of some ghetto.

Like I said, the forum is great but concensus's are hard to find. I plan on allot of riding. for the next 4 to 5 years using alot of miles still left on the bike.

Thank You in advance.

And Red Bird is still Here and Moderating.

For the wheel bearings, yes you need to replace the bearings and the seals. Sometimes you can luck up and the local dealer will have them. You can save money online, but if the only thing you have left to get is the bearings, you might as well get them local. You can also go with All Balls bearings, available through several online suppliers, but also on ebay. If you do go factory, and want to order them without using the local dealer, University Motors beats the hell out of Ron Ayers and anybody else on price, especially when you tell them you are a member of this board. www.umotorsfargo.com .

Chains and sprockets, you need to go with steel sprockets, once again, you will want to aftermarket on this as the dealer is outrageous. I personally run Sunstar or JT sprockets, but as long as it's steel, it doesn't really matter. On the chain, I run a Tsubaki Sigma, which is about 20-30% cheaper than the factory DID 530 ZVM chain. If you go Tsubaki, www.chaparral-racing.com . If you go with the DID, www.whitebuffaloracing.com . Both of these companies also offer the sprockets as well. The EK ZZZ chain is higher than giraffe's ass.

On the overheating thing, the first thing you should check is all the fuses. I had my fan fuse blow during a parade ride and I still haven't figured out why because I've been in much hotter riding situations than that one. But with the bike sitting up, I would say a coolant flush is in order. Don't know about the thermostat thing though, never heard of anybody having to replace that. And yes you definitely want to change the oil, fuel, and I would go ahead and flush out the brake and clutch lines as well.

When you say overheating, are you overflowing coolant, or indicating hot. I am not far from you, and in clean air, summer heat typically read 190 - 195. Get behind a car, or stop and go, it is much, much hotter. The manual says the radiator cap can cause a overheat. I plan to change mine soon. I pulled it and found residue between the cap and the radiator seal. Once cleaned, it ran cooler and didn't overflow. I suspect it wasn't holding pressure.

I put on a DID X ring chain. OEM Sprockets. They have worked well for me. The Redneck Riveria is only three hours from me.. It would be a easy day trip with a chain press if you need it.

Check out the vendor feedback thread. I have had good luck with White Buffallo, Ron Ayres, and SW moto.

I do plan to try University Motors soon.

There is a radiator cap? Who knew? I just found the reservoir under the seat.

I might just check on the part number for that too. or maybe cleaning it might help.

Lets just say it did boil over and I know the gauges high range and what it does when it gets there. I had to split a little traffic (a California thing not accepted well here) in order to keep it cool. I was about 2 hrs from home. Stayed cool as long as it was moving.

Im going to have to find the part numbers for those sprockets and for the chain. I think its a 45 tooth. I'll probably change out the front too. I don't know how many teeth it has...And the chain length would be what.

Looking through that [u]link from john01xx. I'll order those bearings and seals too

Redxxdr. I just might have to take you up on that chain press. Since I don't have one. I'm gonna have to drop you an email with contact information.

I haven't been here to Panama City in about 12 years and forgot its aka. of "The Redneck Riviera".

The stock front sprocket is 17tooth if you are not concerned with mileage and like excelleration go with a 16T front and 45 (stock) rear. The chains are sold mostly 120 link but you need 110 so you have to remove 10 links from the new chain. FYI if the teeth on your sprockets are not showing worn teeth (clearly visable) save the $$$ and just replace the chain(I replace the sprockets with every other chain).

P.S. if you have heat issues you may want to add a product called water wetter made by Redline to your cooling system. It helps heat exchange and will lower your temp something like 20 degree.
