Neutral Light malfunction

Recommended Posts

My neutral light came on while riding the other day when I was in 6th gear. Now it doesn't come on at all. This isn't a big problem except when I want to put down the kick stand and idle. (Sometimes at lights I warm my hands in the exhaust) Any ideas on the cause? What exactly monitors the neutal light anyway?

Thanx

The switch is on the left side of the engine case, right beside where the shifter shaft comes out. Single wire connector.

I would check the wiring in the area of the switch, first, and if nothing turns up, try grounding the wire with the key on. If the indicator comes on, the switch is likely defective.

Mine was not coming on when it was surposed to itermittanly. I traced the wire, checked the switch ect. I ended up finding the plug to the cluster was not seated quite right. Of course i had just ahad it all apart changing out the cowel.
