XXTC
Anybody done this one yet, and if yes, was it worth the effort? I was just over at HardRacing.com and they are offering a "deal" on 520 conversions. I have thought about this before and seeing I have 23K on the chain and sprockets, it is time for a change before NeXXt. Just have never asked if anyone has done it. Thanks in advance
The Krypt Keeper
I haven't done it, but would also not recommend someone doing it either.. The problems involved are a weaker tensile stregnth chain for your XX, also you will need to adjust more often, and replace it even sooner. The only advantage for a conversion is on the race track where you actually race and not just doing a couple track days. The less rotational mass gives you quicker acceleration but its so small you will never feel it or notice it. You would have better results by taking a good shit and looseing a few pounds. Most of my riding buddies do track days and some will run in a race on occassion and they still run stock size chains.
dunedain
I did it. The net gain was not worth the cost. No one should be allowed to sell a 520 kit for the XX (that what either AFAM or Sproket Specialists told me). I tore the hell out of the sprokets and the chain lasted half it's normal life with even twice the cleaning and lubing. I went back to steel sprokets and a 530 and even got a pro-oiler so I dont have to fook w/it as much I got so burned out on cleaning and lubing to make it last. Dont do it! tyzo
Don't do it unless you are planning on racing. If you want to see results...get wheels.
XXTC
Uh, I have to take it that its not recommended, huh? :icon_doh: I was just wondering about it. :icon_think: I was thinking it would not hold up and was just curious. Probably just go with a stock set of sprockets and a nickel chain Whats the prefered aftermarket chain these days?

As a for instance Charlie, I run a 520 setup on my track 600, not heavy-duty enough for the XX EK ZZZ or DID ZVM2
shovelstrokeed
Not sure about the consensus here but I have a DID 530 ZVM2 on mine right now and it has only required one adjustment in 6000 miles, yes, I check every 500 when I lube it. The tech at the dealer recommended Chain Wax rather than the stuff I had been using on my old chain.

There was a mag article awhile back testing all the lubes and waxes, and all the waxes scored lower than the lowest lube! Mike
