MadOx
I put on a set of Helibars last night and love them. It took a while as I had to saw off a couple of tangs from the master cylinders, do some bleeding etc. After everything was done and tight the heads of the bolts looked like they had been in a crash. The olive drab , greenish coating has been broken so I guess rust is comng. I was reasonably careful so I did not expect the results to be that bad. I guess I will replace them but am wondering if anybody has a way of avoiding this cosmetic disisater? They really do look like hell.................. airborneXX
Is it just the paint that's damaged? Try to match the color, and touch up the bolt heads. Spray some of the paint in a cup and use a small brush to apply. If it's the bolt heads themselves that are damaged use better grade 6 point sockets nexxt time
OZDave
Use a polyethylene sandwich bag between the socket and the bolt head. Works wonders for things like fork caps too.
