Dymag Rims Replacing the sprocket

I bought a 99 Bird with 3k miles on it for $5k, not a bad deal, eh? Anyway it came with 3 spoke Dymag rims F/R and now the sprocket is wearing, I contacted both Dymag and Talon ( the sprocket mf ) Just wondering if anyone has ran into this before and if so whats intailed to do the replacement, the sprocket is internally threaded so there is no nuts holding it on. Thoughts? Suggestions?

Thanks

My first thoughts.......stolen! kidding but I think dymags are about $5k.

I'm interested in what Talon and Dymag had to say. :icon_think:

Sounds like the sprokects are not aligned properly. If there are no nuts and it's threaded internally then you are talking bolts (Po-tay-toe, Po-ta-toe). you'll have to yank the sprocket assy. outs the wheel for a look.

Has it been wrecked? Are these Carbon fiber Dymags? More investigation please.

Good Luck!

You need to find out if the rims are new style or old style Dymags. They are probably the new style since they are on a '99. With my last set of Dymags, a socket head type bolt passed completely throught the sprocket from the inside, or the backside, and threaded into a star shaped casting on the outside of the sprocket holding the sprocket and star casting together. Then the round head of the socket bolt rested in a steel sleeved rubber dounut pressed into the hub of the wheel. I doubt the sprocket is threaded. On the "old style" the sprocket was held on with a large wave washer and circlip which facilitated quick gearing changes if you were racing.

Yeah the new style is what i have. Sprocket specialist makes basically anything you want in the way of size and ton of options if you want to pay for em. Dymag said basically they dont do sprockets even though they come on their wheels, Talon finally got back to me and said they have them for 30 EU plus vat and shipping i don't know what that amounts to in US$, The SS sprocket is probably going to run me 80-90 $US

$38 USD plus $20 shipping. As an out of country buyer, you shouldn't be paying VAT.

Let me know if you have any problem getting a sprocket domestically. If you do, I can put you in touch with someone at Dymag I know. You should probably also replace the rubber dampers, they are cheap and it is good insurance.
