Everything seemed normal except for a high pitched whine that increased with speed. This sound could be heard when I stretched my neck to put my head into the clean air above the windscreen turbelence. With my chin on the tank the noise was absent (maybe it was masked by the air flowing past the screen). Also, the noise was present only with the engine under load (pulling-in the clutch lever and bipping the throttle couldn't reproduce it). 39000 kms, new chain (EK530ZVX2) and sprockets (Honda OEM) were installed last year, about 6000 km ago. Chain tension is within spec. The chain I replaced was DID. Is this just a noisy EK (didn't really notice the noise last season) or something expensive? Oh yeah, lubed the chain before storage last year and relubed before today's ride. Had a relatively long warm-up around town before hitting the highways. Any ideas?
