sprack
I've been thinking about flooring the attic over the garage for more storage space. Is 5/8" plywood thick enough or should it be 3/4"?
Redbird
For storage 5/8" would probably be fine, assuming 16" centers. Better question is what's the span and the size of the joists. A lot of times garage ceilings aren't designed to due much more than act as rafter ties and hold the drywall up. Be careful what you put up there until you know what you're loading. sprack
2"x12"x18' joists on 16" centers. Garage is a 2 car garage with a split front if that makes a difference. How do I find out or who should I ask to determine what kind of loading it can handle?
Redbird
Off the top of my head, I'd think a 2"x12' should be fine for a 18' span, especially if it's just storage. Go here if you'd like to do the calculations
