I know the autocom and others will run off batteries but xm radio gps or pocket pc gps are going to require power. How do you determine what you can do and what ruin your charging system? When it drops below 13 or 13.5V at speed (not idle), you are starting to use as much as you are making, which doesn't leave much for charging... The DVM will also give you early warning when/if your reg/rectifier is going out, because the voltage will be jumping all over theplace when the engine is at seady state cruise... FWIW, the stuff you mentioned doesn't draw much current, so you should be fine... The only things you need to really start worrying about adding up are things like heated gear and aux lights.
