  1. Just put Scorpion Slip-ons w/PCIII custom map at the shop. Chart said about 138rwhp now up from 130. On only my first fill-up since the mods but so far my mileage seems to be improving...I'm at 100 mi on this tank and only lost 3 bars so far. As for performance.....all I know is bike runs smoother than it did before....no jerking at all. Sounds fucking incredible and feels a bit more responsive. Custom map was expensive as shit...$275.....just for the service but damn my Bird runs better now. Also got Ohlins 1.05s up front too. 8) The Bird ran good stock but no freakin' comparison now....MUCH better!
  2. Or I could reach into my Joe Rocket Manta bag and pull out 2 more of my rechargeable AAs and Voila! It's magic.....the thing works again!
  3. The 2 AA's supposedly last over a month and I have a recharger along with rechargeable AAs. The cost of batteries to me is zero and recharging once a month....if that.... is nothing.
  4. Thanks.....I may go that route...that way I can switch between bikes easily. Shit I'm pulled over more on my Wing than the XX.....what's up with that?
  5. How did he mount it? Did he have it velcro'd to a tank bag on on the shield suctioned?
  6. how hard is it too hook up a corded detector with an outlet for it? Is there drilling involved? I don't do much but change my oil...
  7. Well I'm not doing the work....the mechanic wants a number for how much the forks should be filled after he's done replacing the oil......so should I just forward him this thread or give him something numeric??
  8. Is that proven? Still 80% better than not having one. With a corded one do you have create a mounted outlet and all that stuff? I'd love to just take the thing right off the bike with my tank bag and no cord. BTW..Nick....like your quote in your sig....true enough! 8)
  9. My buddy has one in his M3. Said batteries last long and are rechargable. Anyone have an experience with one? I found this Whistler for cheap...is this thing crap? http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp...duct_id=2326933
  10. 5W is fine but what about oil fill level? Thx.
  11. Already ordered ohlins springs. Can someone tell me What would be the recommended oil volume fill on each fork and what weight oil? I'm 5'10 about 220lb w/gear. I don't want the ride to be too firm but I'll take firm over too soft. Yes I used the search function but didn't find what I was looking for exactly. Thx, B
  12. I tightened the screw on it and clean/lubed the chain but after riding I notice black crap slowly leaking from this plate.....is that normal?
  13. Mechanic who's putting springs on my bike, said his reseller had ractechs out of stock so he ordered same weight springs but Ohlins. I've never heard of Ohlins springs up fron on the XX. Can I use them??
  14. I bought everything matey_peeps suggested (Thanks, Matey!) at Harbor and then some....breaker bar, torque wrench and a sweet set of socket extensions. I adjusted the chain and have a lot less gear whine now. The only problem is my torque wrench never clicked as I tightened the axle nut and I felt like it was definitely tight enough. I tested out tightening a bolt on my bench press at 40lbs/ft to see if it would click when I hit the spec and it never did.....the bolt just broke in half. So I didn't want the same to happen on the bike so I tighten it enuff...don't know if it's 69lbs/ft but it's tight enough. Next week scorpion slip-ons and pcIII and Ohlins springs up front...
  15. Awesome! Thanks....there's a harbor store near me as well I found out....I'll be going by there tonight or tomorrow.
  16. I'm gonna buy a torque wrench too.....but why would a torque wrench help in loosening the nut???
  17. Thanks, guys. But where exactly do I buy this stuff? My local harbor freight? What's that?
  18. How to do I loose the axle bolt to adjust my chain? Just got the bike and I think it's torqued at 70-80lbs/ft? The toolkit wrench by itself won't budge it even if I tap it with a hammer. What do I need to get to loosen it?? Thx, Barry
  19. Anyone have a power commander map for an XX w/Scorpion slip-ons? Or a recommendation for a map that works with them? Thx, B
  20. Hi all I was looking through your archives and found this post. I'm In exactly the same possition now. 98 Bird, 1 previous owner (a Policeman), 18000 miles at £3700 (I'll let you do the maths to get dollars). I just wondered if the original poster is still hear and did he buy the bike? If so did it work out ok? My previous bike was a GPZ1100 so I doubt I would be disapointed but I'm also tempted to go for a EFI Bird. Is it worth an extra couple of grand Cheers Paul No, never got to look at the '97 b/c it was sold shortly thereafter and no, didn't get a 'Bird since.
  21. Right, I'll probably have more $$ to spend if I wait until spring. But around here in MD, a lot of people are lowering prices to try and sell their bikes now and get their money. Dunno.....do prices really go up that much in the spring? Maybe dealers aren't flexible but I don't about private parties.
  22. I agree, Rockmeup. But it's not that easy to find a nice XX for under $5k with low mileage/wear. $4500 is all I really can spend.
  23. 36k mi in 16 months........not bad! And I thought I was doing good at 22K in 11 months on my Wing.....
  24. Well if all goes well, I'll be checking it out this weekend. The guy was out of town Thanksgiving. The only caveat is that I called him on Mon after he left a message for me and his wife answered and tells me a guy from Miami came by to see it and wants the bike and has until this Sat at 3pm to come get it. Her husband wasn't home at the time. I asked her if the guy gave a deposit and she said no, he didn't have to and they're going to honor the deadline for the guy, who came out to see it. Sounds retarded to me since the guy put no money down and is supposed to fly out again this weekend. If I was the seller, I'd give the bike to the first person who put $4500 in my hand. I'd tell the Miami guy if someone buys it before you, tough luck. I'm going to call the guy again tonight and see if I can talk to him directly.
