  1. I just had a Michelin Pilot Road 2 installed on the rear of the redbird

I figured I'd make this topic as a placeholder to edit/add my comments as the mileage goes on it

    Installed: Dec 5, 2007

    Cost: $200 installed

    Mileage & Comment:

10 miles - so far so good, seems like a responsive profile

200 miles - rode out of town to curvyland, scrubbed and carved conservatively for a few runs, confidence grew with each run, took several turns at higher speed and no chicken strips left (I'm stoked about this tire, reminds me of the pilot power on a bud's Gixxer) heard its supposed to rain this weekend, I'll get it out in the wet stuff and see how those deep rain channels do their thing. (yea I'm riding and its december, I suck.)

500 miles - rode to and from work all last week and this week (relatively cold in the mornings, decent in the afternoon)

hit some surprise dirt in a corner on a simple left turn on the way home today, she slid a bit and then hooked back up nicely,

predictable is the best word to sum it up. Been doing some lane leaning and weaving to feel most of the tire from side to side.

the rain performance a week ago was really no biggie, it rode well, didn't slide unless I braked hard on the wet stuff. (sidenote) Today a guy at work with a Harley, bitched about the center of his Metzler going square too soon, looked at his tire.. yep, its not round-ish anymore - he needs to carve more often I think :)

750-1000 miles - Did a 250mile day tour on New years day, froze my ass off in the morning.

Lots of wide open roads into some fast sweepers, this tire is allowing me to learn what I don't like about my suspension

Did several high speed runs up and down south mountain here in Phoenix the other day, super curvy place that makes for a fun afternoon. The profile of the tire is allowing me to flick/throw the bird quite easily with high confidence during hard leaning carves, and higher speed exits. I recall riding this same route a few times on the former bridgestone tire and it is a night and day difference in bike feel, confidence, etc. I talked with a guy recently that runs Pilot Powers on his bird and since he rides low miles he prefers to ride a bit softer compound. Each to their own... At this point I'm confident in saying that if you are ready for a new rear tire, you might just wanna try the PR 2.

I'd be very interested in hearing a comparison from someone that moves from a Pirelli Diablo Strada to the PR2

  2. For about a month now the Suzuki dealer near me (206.783.2323 - Seattle) has had an 03 bird sitting out front. I called the sales guy today and he says it has just under 7k miles and is mint. They want $6995. If anyone is interested I can swing by and take some pictures.

I have no affiliation with the dealership, I just want to see a good looking bird go to a good home. And they're probably open to negotiation.

this quote is useless without pics ! (but I don't have those cool little pics like another member :)

  3. Here's my suggestion... make yourself more visible.... not anoying.

    +2

I've had people comment at stoplights on how my bright yellow coat doesn't match my redbird.

YUP, thats the point. " You saw me, thanks! "

its funny cause it takes a second or two for it to sink in and then I get the "aw yeah, good idea" response.

always a classic everytime it happens. Sorry to hear you got clobbered at a stoplight by gramma groink. : |

  4. This the one with 33k miles? Pretty clean, though I like mine better.

Yep, might make a nice spare.

I emailed the owner to see what the miles are on it [updated 34,000 miles]

will post his reply here... unless he is a member and chimes in.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Owner's reply to my inquiry:

well my bike is in really great shape, pics dont do it much justice

the miles are high on my bike but as you know blackbirds are known for going a lot of miles.

the miles are 34000 miles not a tick or knock anywhere

and just had a full edr service valve adjustment and cam chain tentioner installed, runs like a champ.

    -Josh

  5. I am surprised like the other 2002 XX owner...I get more ppl interested in parts rather than the bike...Is it that the price is too high??? I thought it is pretty reasonable...Any opinions out there??? ppl have asked for my shield, seat, and sprocket....But, not the bike..Hmmmmm!!!!

Since you asked.....yep. 5k-6k would be more in the ballpark.

I saw an 01' redbird with about 7k miles go on Ebay last week for $6200, and it looked brand new.

There is a similar one up there right now with 5400 miles, perhaps watch that auction and see what it closes at.

  6. That one in your link to Ebay doesn't look like a Delkevic.

    Compare the 1 - 2 pipe.

the Delkevic is more of a V instead of a T connection.

    http://www.delkevic.co.uk/?section=product...p;product_id=15

-perhaps our rocket scientist members can speak to the vapor flow differential between the two.

I'm not making a statement either way, just seems to me that from a brief visual comparison, it LOOKS like exhaust might flow smoother thru the Delkevic.

Think a few peeps here have the Delkevic on their birds, perhaps they can chime in.

  7. I was under the impression they no longer made highmounts for the XX. My thought would be to copy whoever made the nicest, most effective system and crank a few out for those interested. (I'd be interested)

    TFT-

I spoke with Street & Competition (518-279-4598) a few minutes ago,

they were kind enough to call Hindle to verify that they DO indeed still manufacture

and have the SS high mount slip-on tubes for $379.99, the cans are extra and come in the usual flavors.

That is as of today. Oct. 5, 2007

  8. -

It seems that the only company that is currently selling a dual highside setup is Renegade

Hindle's website doesn't list the part number anymore for a highside setup

(update: A call to Hindle by Street&Comp confirms that they DO still sell and make the highside slip on SS tubes)

and it sounds as if Mig is out of business. I don't know of any others on the market.

If TiForce made a setup similar to the renegades, I'd buy it, simple.

I'll call them on it and see what they have to say.

In lieu of that happening, I'll roll my own setup.

    My starting design criteria:

    1. I like the way a dual highside looks. (appearance)

    2. A highside mount adds clearance and tucks behind the passenger footpeg. (function)

    3. I want the entire exhaust to be titanium end to end. (weight reduction)

    4. Horsepower equal to or better than stock, any increase is good. (performance)

    5. I want to isolate and evacuate heat so ceramic coating inside/outside (heat management)

Doesn't seem unreasonable criteria to me... thats debateable.

    RodeRash -

I totally agree that using a currently manufactured header is the way to go.

No need to re-invent that piece of the puzzle.

Doesn't seem to be many options for a titanium header so probably start with the assumption of using a TiForce header and design backwards from there.

I am approaching this as a hobbyist that wants his exhaust setup a particular way.

and if others are looking for the same thing, thats cool, we can collaborate.

If and when I have a final version made up, I'd have the shop make up a build pattern/jig so duplicates could be produced to spec, which makes it a simple materials and labor proposition to anyone else that wants the same setup. I'm not interested in selling these things to turn a buck.

    Northman -

Ahh.. I confused Akro and TiForce when I was typing this last night, I stand corrected, thanks.

  9. So I have been reading years of posts and investigating various product offerings over the past few days.

Just so happens that I have some solid connections in the titanium industry

and also in production shops that could turn out whatever silly shit I can dream up.

I have seen a few pics of birds that are carrying highside exhausts. Some are well-known product, others less so or home grown.

Seems that Akropovic makes a full titanium set that is a single-side lower style and thats great... BUT

I just like the pics I have seen of the dual highside setups (Mig and Renegade flavors)

So, since I seem to have just way too much free time to think about this lately, I'm gonna put the idea out to ya'll:

What would be your design criteria be for a dual highside, end to end, full titanium exhaust system? "Have to have" and "nice to have" type of criteria

I'm thinking that ceramic coating inside and out will be standard, and perhaps an option, since I live down the road from the Arizona HPC Coatings faciity.

(to move heat thru the pipes past the radiator, past your boots, and out the back as smoothly as possible, radiating as little heat as possible along the way)

At this point, I am specifically asking for feedback about the design criteria for the header and the highside midpipe

Have to probably make up a good custom map for the PCIII users as well to get the maximum benefit

I'm not interested in making a business out of this at all. I do well enough at the day job.

I want to make a great exhaust for my BB and if others want the same thing or something thereabouts, to me, its just incrementally more material and labor, if this concept proceeds to a production stage.

There are a plethora of can options... and I'm thinking those can be designed for attachment with some effort.

SS, Titanium, Carbon, Rainbows, colors, round, oval, dodecahedron, etc... whatever turns your crank I suppose.

If you are interested in this type of thing, then maybe kick in some design criteria, and maybe, I'll get it prototyped and produced someday.

    thanks. :)

  10. Hi all,

    -2001 XX -

previous owner seems to have adjusted the rear brake lever too low for my liking.

the lever annoys me with the front of my foot in casual riding position, and I'm looking to lift up the pedal a bit

I read through the PDF manual (thank you for posting it), and it says on page 3-29

"loosen the locknut and turn the push rod until the correct pedal height is obtained"

Well, I grabbed an open end wrench and tried to loosen the locknut without torquing on it too much

and the nut doesn't budge at all. By looking at the threads of the bolt that sticks down, it appears that the threads are "lefty loosey" like most other things.

I gave it a few strong good tries but it wouldn't turn.

Saw that the brake pedal body wanted to flex if I really put a lot of muscle into it,

so I thought I'd ask here before I fucked something up.

Is there some sorta trick to this "simple" adjustment ?

    Thanks

  11. At 46K+ miles, it's time to replace my original rear shock. Due to a small budget (and the fact that I only weigh ~170) I'll be happy with a low mile stocker (maybe throw a Hyperpro spring at in the future). :icon_think:

Let me know what you have and what the shipped price would be (zip = 28227)

Also, depending on price I'm possibly interested in a decent used re-sprung CBR900RR rear shock, mainly for the remote pre-load ability (Often switch from solo to heavy touring mode and back).

    Let me know!

LongHaul / Kevin might still have one for $30...

look down thru the threads to his post.

  12. Phil, did you get your new Connie?

The dealer offered me $5000, but advised that he puts it for sale in the shop on consignment, he'll ask for the book price ($6100) and then he'll take 7%, which is fare enough.

He has the concours in and offered me at $12000, but I'll wait till mine actually sells, so it could be 2 days or 2 months, just waiting for the right buyer.

It looks so bare! I put the standard seat back on and the standard clear windshield and took off the GIVI box.

Will sell the corbin seat, honda manual and dark higher windshield most likely on here soon.

    Phil.

    Phil.

DIBS! on the corbin seat (if you sell it ) Also interested in a throttlemeister if you are parting with that

  13. Absolutely mint, garage kept, adult ridden 2003 CBR1100XX. Purchased new in late 2005, on road only 2 years. Completely stock with exception of electronic cruise control and HID hi / lo headlamps, and two 12V power ports in dash. Pipes also slightly modified, sound good, not loud. Photos speak for themselves, you'll be hard pressed to find a cleaner, more loved for XX. Just ask my wife..... :)

$6500 firm. Any questions just let me know. Available to be shown any time, absolutely positively no test rides. :)

    Thanks...

Which cruise control are you running on this bike?

  14. I guess for me it comes down to really wanting a fast bike that can I wheelie!

If this is your bike selection criteria, then I'd think that there are many other options on the market for you to explore.

Sure you can wheelie a BB and get pretty wild, just remember, it is a 500lb+ bike, without a rider.

Have you considered what many riders end up with... owning several bikes? one for this style, one for that style, etc

I think I recall reading somewhere that the high speed wheelie record was set on a BB, or maybe I am mistaken

+1 to the guy that said to try it out over 7000rpm,

the smile on your face is from the wind pulling your cheeks back to your ears

Ride safe, have fun, keep the rubber side down.

  15. I'm looking for suggestions to help keep my bird cooler out here in Arizona.

-besides, not riding when its hot outside... the obvious : )

Is there a tasty flavor or recipe of antifreeze that tends to keep things cooler ?

Anyone ever added a larger or second fan or a manual fan switch to the factory fan ?

She runs cool enough on the highway, although stop and go city traffic heats her up quick.

I'd like to keep the gauge under 205 if possible.

What are you guys seeing during your warm months?

    Any ideas welcome, thanks.
