  1. Are you still in the DC area? I am in DC hear Silver Spring and have a 97 with 21k miles that I hardly ever get to ride. It mostly just sits in my garage. It is not currently on the market, but may consider letting it go to a good owner. It is black with a full akraprovic exhaust, factory pro jet kit and a corbin gunfighter seat. I just had it serviced at Cycles of Silver Spring and had tune up including new brake pads, new pirelli angels.

  2. I am doing some updates to my 97 XX. I ordered and installed a smoked front light and I really like the look of the smoked front turn signals, but all that I see advertised are for 99 and newer. Are the lenses the same for the 97-98 models as the 99 and newer ones?

    Thanks!

  3. My bike tipped over in a windstorm and my fairing cracked. I have a replacement upper fairing but the tabs on the headlight housing are broken. I want to get a new housing and the shop quoted me about 300 bucks. I found some aftermarket ones on ebay for almost half that. Some had a nice smoke tint. Does anyone have any experience with these aftermarket assemblies or any other suggestions on where to get them?

    Thanks,

  4. I've never seen pics of an ENTIRELY flat black bird. I know Honda made one that was pretty close to that, but was like silver or something on the bottom with gold wheels.

It's funny you mention this because I have a full set of spares in the garage right now that are in primer and soon to be sprayed flat black. Great minds must think alike! The difference is that I will be doing everything in flat black: bottom of the forks, inside section of the brake rotors (like the 97-98 style although my bike is a 99), wheels, swingarm, and maybe even my exhaust. That only leaves the triple trees and pegs not black, and if I ever do those parts they'll probably get powdercoated.

    You mean like this http://superblackbird.arnolddegraaf.nl/ima...R1100XX04_s.jpg

This colour was available in Europe, UK and AUS in 2004 and possibly other years. From reports on the BIRD site in the UK there was a few problems with the paint showing rub marks, going shiny etc. :icon_think:

I am thinking of somehing like that. I like the look of the paint on the Ducati Monster Dark

Do you plan on doing it yourself or sending it out to a paing shop?

Mine is done flat black. It looks awesome IMO.

If you are gonna do it yourself my only advise to you is prep prep prep. The more time you spend prepping the surfaces the less time you'll have to spend painting and the better it'll turn out. I did mine with Krylon Fusion and it looks great for the price I spent.

Do you have any photos? What kind of prep did you do before painting and how durable is the Krylon paint?

I dont mind taking on the project myself, but I dont want it to look like I did it at home.

  6. I seem to remember seeing some photos of a BB painted flat black, but now cant find them.

Does anyone have a link to the phohts?

I am thinking of getting mine repainted that color.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

  7. I have a 97 with the Factory PRo Jet kit and an Akra exhaust.

I might get flammed for this, but I dont put anything in the tank during winter storage.

It sits winters and starts right up each spring.

I have never driven the FI XX, but I absolutely LOVE whe way mine runs.

Throttle response is smooth and strong and I dont experience any flat spots.

Wouldnt trade it for the world!
