  1. I got mine from StreetFightersbyDesign a few years ago.  The price was right and the delivery was quick.  I think I posted a note about them in the Vendors section.

I got mine there, too, but I can't get it to fit properly.

  2. I've run Ride-On in my Valkyrie tires for several years now. It's basically a street version of Slime, but I am still doubtful as to the puncture resistance properties.

The reason I use it is that it is self-leveling -- as soon as you put it in, you go ride around the block to get it spread out (centrifugal forces will do that). It fine-tunes the balance of the tires amazingly well.

The ceramic beads might very well do the same. It's hard to say without trying.

  3. I just lift both ends of the bike with my PitBull stands and get both wheels of in a jiffy.  I love my PitBulls. :D

Which versions do you have? There are so many choices. Are there spools available for the XX?

  4. I also know people who just automatically pop a couple of asprin, ibuprofin, whatever, in the morning before a ride.

Ha! I pop 4 350mg aspirin every morning and sometimes in the evening.

Oh, yeah. Sorry. This is not related to riding at all. Whee!

  5. The stock seat drives me bananas, but the Corbin (not a custom either!) rocks the house.

The Buell pegs really helped me with my knee pain. Hip pain, well, I figure that's more a function of my hip replacement than anything else. :)

  6. What will a 1999 bird w/65000 miles be worth in market today?

runs great, wheel bearing and chain/sprokets upgrade.

Probably not as much to somebody else as it is to you. I say keep it. It's probably the most reliable piece of machinery you'll ever own.

  7. I just put a set of 49/50 Avons on my 'bird. I'm just now past the scrub-in part, so I'll see how they do.

Avon made the best tires money could buy for my Valkyries and Goldwings. That's why I went with them for the Blackbird. Kinda like how I always buy Honda motorcycles, I guess.

  8. Yea, they have an empty cutout where the turn signals used to be.

You can do what Carlos did, have a fiberglass guy cut out and remove them.  I think he even integrated the turn signals directly into the bags.

I'd forgotten that. There used to be pictures of that on the cbr1100xx.org site, way back. Anyone know where (or if) they are now?

Something along those lines was what I was thinking, as well.

  9. If you put Beetle bags on a bike that has an undertail that eliminated the stock turn signals and cut the stock monstrosity that was hanging down in back... do the bags look funny?

Anyone have any pictures of what it looks like?

  10. If it's for light-to-light or the occasional strip run, the solution is nitrous.

If it's for highway or hard-core strip racing, the solution is a turbo.

If it's for track-days, well, from what I've seen, a Blackbird will take a Hayabusa on the track (but it kinda looks like a couple of fat girls running).

Increasing displacement makes all of these things better.

  11. I'm not even through the old paint yet -- I just have the deep gouges in it (as EVLXX said). It is still effectively primered. Does the primer coat really need to be that smooth? Everything I'd read said to rough it up. I've only just barely burnt through the clearcoat that was on there before.

Hey, I said they were stupid questions. :)

  12. So, I've sanded the finish on the (removed) seat-cowl portion of the Corbin Smuggler with a nifty little 60 grit sandpaper sponge-thing from 3M. The shine is gone. How do I tell if it's scuffed enough? The surface feels uniform to the touch.

I'm going to skip the primer stage, because there was already paint on it, and it's plastic, and primer is mostly just something to stick the pretty stuff to the bare metal.

Should I sand between coats of paint? If so, wet-sand or dry-sand? 180 grit okay, or too fine/rough?

Between paint and clearcoat, I'd definitely planned to wet-sand with 180 grit. Should I wet-sand with 320 after that?

After clearcoat, I'd definitely planned to wet-sand with 180 and then 320.

I've never done this before, and I'd love to pick up some rules of thumb so I don't necessarily have to restart a dozen times due to doing it wrong. I already figure I'll have to restart a bunch due to not being able to make the damn stuff not run. :?

  13. Screw the pilots -- who likes Avons better than stewardesses?

    QOTW!!!!!!

I just wouldn't screw the Pilot (unless she's a girl....)

Perhaps.... "Forget about the pilots -- who likes Avons better than stewardesses?"

Of course, around here, the pilots might be worried anyway.

If they liked it, would that make them Butt Pilots?

  14. I run without a centerstand, but that's because I've lowered it, and the legs were too long. Shortening the legs would probably have made more sense, but, well, this only involved taking out bolts.

Besides, I have a bike center lift as well as a lift table for things that really need it.

  15. If I get an integrated rear taillight, what is the % mixture between brake fluid and blinker fluid?

Is it possible to over-torque the loose nut between the seat and the handlebars?
