Depends on what you want.
Fit and Finish?
Noise?
Power?
Most don't offer much as far as HP gain. Some are louder than others(D&D).
Go for what fits your budget and bling factor.

You will need a synch tool ie. carb sticks, and some fittings for the vacuum ports. If you have had the carbs off for jetting they need to be done. The screws are PIA to get to and it takes a little time to get them just right.

I have a ZG ST screen you can try/have if you want to. Its dark smoke and quite a bit taller than stock.
-
I haven't tried any of the higher end screens but out of the four aftermarket ones I've used the stock one is still my favourite.
The taller screens can cause some buffeting and also take some of the wind off your upper body which in turn puts more weight on your wrists.

He's OK or at least he has internet cuz I got an e-mail from him earlier today. Quite a few outages in the rural areas. The ice storm in 02 cleared out most of the trees around here so I think that helped this time. Supposed to be in the 60s by sunday!!!

Ya know the black ones are faster
We still have electricity and about 3" of ice.

Power delivery is excellent, in fact the fuelies may seem a little vague compared to carbs. There may be a slight dip around 5000-5500rpm but its not a real problem and can be jetted out. Carbed XX's usually get better fuel mileage. The choke is no big deal either and can be shut off after less than a minute of warm up.
As far as other changes, they are minor and make little difference in the day to day operation.
Hope this goes better for ya than the last time around :poke:

As long as you use it often it will probably work OK. But it will also suck the grease out of your chain. WD40 liquifies grease thats why it works so good to clean.
I have used Bel Ray superclean chain lube with good results. Doesn't fly off or attract dirt.

Any hope of getting it on the road this year? Last year I rode over 1k miles in December and January so don't give up.
-
I rejetted with the Factory Pro kit and I still get better mileage than the fuelies do......as long as I don't stay in the triple digits long.
-
When I jetted mine it looked similar when I looked down the intake. I asked here about it at the time and it was the general consensus that it was normal.

Look for a Zero Gravity ST. It is a tall screen.
The down side to some of the taller screens is more turbulence.

The Dunlops have good grip but don't last too long. The front will start to cup after a couple thousand miles and the back will square off quickly. Expect your mileage with them to be between 3k and 6k if you take it easy.
Avon 45/46 combo is popular as well as the Michelin Roads.

That makes it much easier to decide what tires to use next
Actually thats exactly what I thought the last time I was lookin for tires.

CCT????
How many miles on the bike?
-
No you don't need one but it will run better with it.

I had a slight wobble on decel when I put the Avons on. Also had some funny sensations thru the bars and a vibration. I balanced the tire to no avail. Finally the light bulb came on to check the roundness of the front tire....it was out of round. It would balance fine but it had a section 6"-8" long that was 2-4mm off from the rest of the tire. After another new "round" Avon I have no problems now.

Always something to brighten my morning

If the jetting was done properly you should still get good mileage. I average anywhere from the mid 30s to low 40s since mine has been rejetted. Expect to go 150 miles to near 200 between fill ups.
-
That wear seems a little excessive. I ride 2 up quite a bit and got 7k out of my back tire, probably could have made a few more.
The front was lookin good but has gotten progressively more out of round. So it is being changed this week.....hope I get a round one.
It seems strange that some get great life out of these tires while others don't. I just don't know what else to try.

Welcome MikeOK.

Even after re-jetting my gas mileage is still decent. Pipes are slightly black but they were before I changed the jets. Mileage varies between mid 30s to low 40s depending on riding habits for the day.
-
Mine has been wearing OK but it is out of round and causes a vibration at higher speeds. I also have some odd feedback through the bars which I attribute to the square tire.

Here I was all excited about a thread on Strap-Ons
question about pilot screw settings...

Start from where the screw bottoms out. Not tight just when you feel them touch.
I put the Factory jet kit in mine and it starts about the same as stock, if it hasn't set for too many weeks. When its cold there is a hesitation at about 3k otherwise its fairly linear.
