Just purchased a TFI from a member, plus, I have a full Akrapovic system that came with the bike. So Swampnut, if you can lay the best TFI setting info on me along with me utilizing other info listed in this thread (like a K&N filter), hopefully I can see similar dyno results for my '01. Trailer the bike when finished to a reputable shop (GUHL in Ephrata, PA) in much cooler temps, probably in April some time. Love to see 145-150hp at the wheel. With a bit shorter gearing and practice, low 10s would be most welcome.
Steve
Steve,
I ran a 10.67 with my 01 Bird at PBIR.
I rode the bike there ran a few passes and rode it back home (50 miles each way) stock gearingI used to go a few times a year with Adam, Beondwacko, with his 01 Bird.
Adam strapped his front end but with stock gearing ran 10.3's with some regularity.Adam was serious about his times and I was there to have some fun and try to learn how to launch better, but I was unsuccessful in the end!
I always had poor 60' times.

It's not useful to compare HP from different dynos in different locations. Too many variables. My testing was just outside of Vegas in summer. So 2k feet altitude and 100+ degrees. Terrible situation for creating power. A run at 65 degrees and sea level would be an easy gain.
And to add to this.......You must run a baseline initial run to compare with the final Dyno run to accurately determine net gains.

I wore a 13 most of my life. The last few pair of street shoes I've bought - I've gone with 14's
Anyone have ideas of how Alpinestars run?
I just ordered a pair of these from Revzilla for touring on the new FJR.

John, did it just pick up peak HP or across most of the board? Did it pick up much torque? Just curious.
I was 17 years ago!
I will have to dig out the dyno sheets.I do remember that it was stronger across the board alone with the elimination of the 5000 RPM hesitation that was so common.
I don't remember what the torque numbers were but don't think there was much of a gain there.

I will throw in my .02 worth.
Back in 2001 when i bought my Bird new with 0.6 miles on the clock, took it straight to a friend in North Miami that does most of the bike set-ups for the track in So Florida. Kevin Blais was a World Superbike Team Kawasaki Technician for a number of years until his wife developed cancer. After her passing he opened Blais Cycle in Miami.
Blais Cycle is the only people that I have trusted to do any work on my Bird to this day. After breakin at approx 750 miles on the clock, she was put on the Dyno for a full stock baseline run.
The Dyno showed 134.2 hp in completely stock formreplaced stock full exhaust with a full titanium Akcropovic Race system. K&N air filter, Oil/filter change and installed a Power Commander.
After multiple Dyno runs and tweeks on the PC the final run showed 149.9 hp.
All work was performed on the same day in an air conditioned controlled Dyno Room.Somewhere I still have the Dyno printout for both stock and custom final runs with time and date stamps.

The earlier model Birds in Europe came factory with a headlight on/off switch. If you find a Euro model switch pod it is plug and play on all US models. I have one on my Bird. They were in demand back when HID was hot. The main problem with long life with HID headlights was the limited number of on/off cycles before giving up the ghost.
When you turn the ignition on, the HID headlight fires up, hit the starter button HID turns off and then back on after engine fires. The Bird fires up easily so usually only 2 on/off cycles per start but with the switch installed it is only necessary to turn the HID on after the engine is running. My only problem is that many times I forget to turn the headlight on after starting up during the day! Illegal to ride without the headlight on. I have been stopped and talked my way out of a ticket without disclosing I have a switch.- 1

I googled the CTL-0026-IT part number from Clear Alternatives and found this picture and description.
The BlackBird Taillight is big and uses two of the boards as shown in the picture.
You have options on the integrated signals with two boards. Pictured is turn signal wires from both boards hooked up but you can just hook up the turn signals wires on the upper or just the lower for brighter running/brake lights.
Hope that makes sense!

Not sure if they will fit inside the housing of the earlier model years that have a smaller tail light housing which is why i listed the actual physical size of the board itself. I think they will but not positive since I only owned the later models myself.

edited with price added.
When they go to ebay the price becomes $25.00 shipped on ebay

Here is a picture of the replacement LED tail light circuit board that will fit into many motorcycle taillight housings.
The turn signals are integrated as well. Main wiring harness plugs right into the stock light socket and color coded turn signal wires splice in.Simple replacement on the BlackBird or many other bikes with large rear facing taillight housings.
The physical board measures: 2" X 4.5"
Pictured are two boards to view the front and back side.$17.00 per board shipped Priority Mail in the US.

Bullshit. At 65 you can get muscle and abs. Don't be lazy.
No laziness here!
I started the year with a goal of 300 miles for the year. 25 miles per month.
Adjusted the goal to 30 miles a month. 360 miles for the year.As of June 1st I have 152.91 miles completed. (5 mths)
June 1st thru the 9th (today) I have added 15.37 miles.
Total to date; 168.28 miles. Looking to be at 190+ miles by the end of the month.
If I keep this up, I may change the goal to 400 miles for the year.
I am not interested in muscle mass per se. I don't have the bone structure or genetics for bulk.
I am only interested in getting trim and healthy. I like the 170 lb size for my 5'10" height.
I have actually dropped a couple pounds as of this morning. 168 lbs currently.
I also start my day each morning with stretching and a set of 100 situps for the core/abs.
Just added a set of 20 dips immediately after swimming, daily.
Swimming is great for my arthritis, says my doctor.

Looks impressive Rick. I just added some PVC privacy fencing to both sides of my house using the PVC sleeves over 4x4 posts. Very durable stuff and easy to work with.
Also seeing "Her" room all organized will make her very pleased.
Funny, last week, I decided to make a swimming lap counter since i am swimming daily at a rate of about 36 to 72 laps. hard keeping track of number of laps so crafted up a primitive abacus style counter. Using pony beads in three colors, paracord and suction cups I had from Awesome Ears. Seeing all of her crafting supplies so well organized is amazing. I can see where lots of great projects for the kids will be possible now from your efforts.
Here is a pic of my little lap counter that I made on my kitchen floor after spending way to much time at Walmart deciding what to buy.
Functional and simplistic
white beads = 1 lap (50 yds)red beads = 10 laps
Blue beads = 1/2 mile
I only wish I had the supplies, work table and abilities to produce a craftsmanship project like you just did. Great job. -
For my understanding, what is actually happening with a modern engine that claims to shut down a couple cylinders to conserve fuel?
I see many V8 cars claiming better gas mileage by shutting down a couple cylinders when not needed while cruising
down the highway getting improved mileage.

So no one makes or made a true bolt on wheel?
Carrozzeria didi not at the time but others matched up fine except for the cush drive bolt pattern for the drive sprocket.
So we just replaced the drive sprocket at the same time. They offered a cheap price on a choice of two different sprockets, aluminum or steel.
I have since replaced mine with a nice matching anodized gold SuperSprox for that extra bling.

Paging Hank !
He knows all the details and spec's on what we did with the group buy and what will bolt right up from Carrozzeria.Hank is who I went through to pick up a replacement set of cush drive rubbers.

My ZXXX uses ZX10R wheels, but I had to use a ZX12 sprocket. Don't know if that factors in any way.
No idea if the front is a bolt-in, because I have ZX14 forks (I'm guessing not). The 10R rear rotor doesn't line up with the BB caliper, and it's been too long for me to recall what I had to do to make it work. Pretty certain I used the ZX10 caliper and hanger, and shimmed things to match.
All this to say that ZX10 wheels may be an option if you can make the front fit. It won't be a direct bolt-in for at least the rear, though.
Thanks Mike,
You jogged my memory or lack there of.
I don't think there was such a thing as a ZX10 when we did the group buy ! Back then it was a ZX9 I think.
I need to edit my posts to say ZX12 in place of ZX10. -
21 hours ago, FTM said:
Oh nice, was the ZX sprocket featured because of practicality with their stock, or some technical issue that prevented them for making the wheel ready for Bird's OEM sprocket?
If I am not mistaken, they did not make a cush drive with the matching sprocket bolt pattern that the BlackBird has.
The ZX12 cush drive is what came with the rear wheel so you were forced to buy a new ZX12 sprocket .- 1
Aluminum chain guard wanted

Take a look at this link to Jaws-Motorcycles.co.uk
They offer the PowerBronze hugger with guard built-in, in both plastic and real carbon fiber (I have the carbon fiber hugger).
They also do sell a metal chain guard that is black chrome and looks good if you do not have a hugger.
