  1. As shown in the Manuel, you can bleed the linked brake system on the Bird properly and thoroughly without the use of a vacuum bleeder but it is a pain in the butt. The job will require 2 people and should not  be attempted by yourself.

If there are no other issues other than air in the line, then the spongy rear should disappear, since a properly bled system will expel all the trapped air.

  2. Just a thought to throw into the mix. When you used the screwdriver against the old pads to push the pistons back, did you have the reservoir cap off?

It is a sealed system and when you push the pistons back the reservoir cap must be removed. If the cap is still on when you push the pistons back, you will create a problem. Sometimes the plunger gets turned inside out, but that will affect both front and rear brakes and sometimes it will force a leak.

  3. You said bring it to a Dealer.

Unless you know that the tech is an A tech at the Dealer do NOT take it there.

Here in So Florida the best A tech's are not working at the dealerships.

Dealerships charge the highest shop rates as well. Ask around locally for a

reputable shop that works on a lot of sport bikes. Their rates will be cheaper

and chances are you will get better service performed.

It really should be a relatively easy thing to figure out with some multimeter

skills and the right wiring diagram.

  4. The connector is not the issue.

He has multiple wires that are all corroded up. He was looking to replace the whole harness itself due to finding so many wires badly corroded. He was opening up the harness and cutting back wires looking for good looking copper and stopped peeling back insulation at a foot log in multiple directions on multiple wires

  5. Jon,

It will take a little time but I happen to have a complete linked brake system that I took off a 2000 bike that I parted out a few months ago.

The complete Bird system has about 8-10 lines I think. I can measure up what ever you need.

  6. I sold the harness from the 2000 that I parted out.

His current harness is full of corrosion. he started stripping back in all directions and stopped at a foot on multiple wires so gave up and decided to buy a new main harness from Honda but found out they are no more. He may end up doing a complete rewire himself but looking for a useable replacement instead.

According to Honda it has to be a 1999 or 2000 harness to work(same part number). In 2001 the Bird went digital so don't know if a 2001-2003 digital harness will work.
