  1. I put EBC brake pads on my bike and I noticed that when slowing from speeds of around 3o mph or more, I can hear the brake pads against the rotor. I don't remember hearing this with the stock pads. Is this sound normal for the EBC pads? I've checked out all of the brake parts and everything looks good. It stops great. Thanks
  2. Brand New Condition Genmar Risers used only 3 weeks. I got a set of VFR bars, and won't be using the Genmar Risers with them. I'm asking $80 or b/o. PM me if interested.
  3. I'm replacing the pads on the front and rear. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
  4. I'm not clear on which 2 bolts to remove to get the caliper off. According to the shop manual, it says to remove the brake lines, before removing caliper bolts. Does anyone have a picture of which 2 bolts I need to remove to take the caliper off? Also, do I need to replace these bolts or just put some blue loctite on them when reinstalling?
  5. It's my first time changing pads on a motorcycle. How do I know when the pad is seated in the pad spring? I'm planning on changing the pads, without removing the caliper. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
  6. I am getting ready to replace my front and rear pads on my 99 Bird. Is their a step by step pictorial that has been posted before? I've never done this on a bike before, only on cars. What is involved? Tools, etc. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
  7. I've got a set of Continental tires on my Bird. The label says 44psi max cold. I've been keeping 36 in the rear and 34 front. What pressures would you guys recommend? The bike already rides a little choppy in the front now, so I didn't want to make it worse buy increasing tire pressure. Thanks
  8. I have a 99 bird and I noticed that when I first start it up, in neutral with the clutch out, I hear alot of rattling coming out of the clutch cover. If I squeeze in the clutch, it goes away. After riding for awhile, the noise goes away. I've read that the clutch basket makes noise on these bikes. Is this the case, or should I look for another issue? The bike only has 24000 miles on it. Any help would be appreciated.
  9. I notice that my dash pod on my 99 wiggles a little up and down. Is there a way I can tighten this up? What's involved in accessing the screw, bolts, etc.? Thanks
  10. Those pictures are really helpful. Looking at my handlebars though, they are a smidget under the clip on the tube, but right against the base. In the pictures it shows alot more space below the clip, with the handlebars against the base. Is there anyway of knowing if the guy before me lowered the forks?
  11. I'd like to be able to flatfoot my bike with both feet. I can get one foot down flat and almost the other one. I don't want to lower the bike, so I was thinking of taking about 1 inch of foam out of the seat. I only weigh 135, so it shouldn't be an issue. Has anyone else done this modification, and if so, did it make a difference? Thanks
  12. when I'm pushing my bike in my garage I hear a groan off and on from the front of the bike as the tire rotates. It does this when I come back from riding. Only going forward though. Is this normal brake drag noise? Also I noticed a nut on one side of the front wheel hub(passenger side), but the driver's side has an open end tube with slots. Am I missing some part there? Thanks for helping the new guy.
  13. I've read that you can raise the handlebars a little by loosening the clamps that go around the fork tubes. Can someone explain to a newbie how to do this, and how far up can I go and still be safe? Also, there is a clip at the top of the fork tubes. What is this for, and can I raise the bars up past this point? Thanks for the help
  14. I just had a new chain installed on my 99. I noticed that the replace chain mark is lined up with the mark on the swingarm. I remember the guy telling me that I have a 16 tooth front sprocket. Is this why the marks don't line up? Also, will the smaller front sprocket cause the chain to wear quicker? Can anyone tell me the difference in rpms at 55 with the smaller sprocket? I tach about 3500 rpms right now at 55mph. Thanks for the help. I just bought it this week.
  15. I just purchased a 1999 CBR 1100 XX. I can't find any information for type of oil to use, recommendend fuel octane rating, or anything about capacities for the fluids. I can't find type of spark plug to use either. If anyone can give me this information or direct me where to find it, I would greatly appreciate it. I'm picking up the bike tomorrow, and would like to give it a once over. Thanks
