Interesting...I have switched to the 16T non-dampener sprocket and with 15k miles I really haven't noted much difference. I love the additional acceleration.
FYI...I have at least 20k on sprockets with a dampener.
Maybe different bikes noise levels are impacted different ways (dif chains, etc).
Mines a daily rider....came to work today and it was 21 degrees...FUN!

45 days and I start to be concerned. I will stabil any gas if its going to sit 60 days or more...

Fuel
in The Garage
I get an occasional smell of gas on my 98 bird. Check your fuel lines and vent lines carefully. One is likely loose or frayed.
-
Hard starting when the bike is hot often indicates too tight exhaust valves...
-
I agree with most of the others...after two birds and 50k+ miles on them I have yet to change a FF. Neglect or stupidity would be the only time its needed...
-
Sure you could....but exhaust sytems are designed as a system and changing the dynamics could/would make a substantial performance loss probable.

Is it a metallic sounding squeak?
My bird makes a small amount of front brake noise with the stock lines....
-
Battery (as stated) or ground wire where it attaches to frame....
-
Its a little harsh for me too at 140lbs. I run 5wt and keep the fork fluid fresh. It works even if it isnt the smoothest in the world. Its a daily rider and it works OK to me...
-
I run one tooth smaller on the countershaft. It makes a big difference in acceleration. Your mileage will drop around 5% all other factors being the same... its worth it to me...but its a personal call.

How many of you are running the speedo healer?
I was running 10% too high on mileage (and speed) until I put the speedo healer on.
My mileage is now accurate...and unfortunately isn't as good as before I had the Speedo Healer...

Normal...I change my coolant at least every other year to make sure tha coolant hasn't broken down.

75% chance bearings or tires are the cause...

Sounds like a rebuild is in order to me.
You pins may be bent as well. Replace the pins and seals and you should be OK. Make sure the pads slide properly on the pins (compress and retract smoothly).

Same boat here on my 98 bird. I usually have about .6 of a gallon left and a range of about 25-30 miles once the low-fuel light comes on...

I run the heated gloves all winter. If I berak down and go with the vest I would be sure to add a voltage gauge to make sure I can monitor my charging system. Perform a 'search' in this forum and you will find many affordable options for a gauge...

I consider all my jeep and street bike K&N's as life-long filters.
The obvious determining factor being a tear or actual filter damage.
Clean it well, oil it and use that rascal! (Unless its damaged...)

I am running (2) 4' flourescents as well. I will add at least one more to the collection for even better lighting this winter.
-
I will chime in here...you should be OK with the brake cleaner.
FYI ...I usually only have to use brake cleaner on my Jeeps.
On the bird & dirt bikes I usually just wipe off any brake dust with a clean cloth.

Hit it with WD40 (inside the lock) at least once a month for insurance....
A graphite lube may be even better.

Maybe the 4sale sign is the answer.
There are a HUGE number of busa's , GSXR's, even soms CBXX's, etc. for sale with lowered suspensions and 12" extended swingarms.
It destroys the way they handle and looks really bad (to me).
Is it that hard to keep the front end down?
What are your thoughts on the great number of these bikes?

You should be fine...definitely do NOT have it started unless it gets to operating temperature for around 10-15 minutes. Moisture causes problems ( as stated above) unless full operating temp is reached...
-
Rain just makes it more fun!
Year - rounder here in TN....
-
Be sure to spray the drain bolt with WD40 and let it sit for a day or two. It will come right out...but be patient.
I usually let the fork leg hang from a rafter in the garage (upside down) for a day to allow all old oil to drain from the fork leg.
If you do a search in this form this was actually covered about 6 mos. ago....

Almost any tire will come out from under you when cold...don't ask how I know. (Painful memories...)
Replacement is ideal 1/2 way thru the trip...you will likely find some major gashes in your treads.
Carry a GOOD patch kit....
