The cylinder heads are the same with the exception that the FI versions have a hole in them for the cam position sensor.
If you can plug that hole, you're fine.
See I figured Rockme or Northman would know. For educational purposes, how do you successfully plug the hole?

Speculation. 97 and 98 are certainly different than the 99 and on in quite a few things. Also one being carbed and the other FI. Like I said its a WAG on my part.
Also just checked, Ayers lists two different part numbers for head assemblies. Like I say pure speculation on my part and no one had answered you.

While I am not anywhere the expert on this, I am going to say first glance, NO. But stay tuned for more informative replies.

+1 the suspension is a piece of cake to work on. Plenty of info in the forums to answer your questions. Also you could prolly afford a Traxxion kit for what you would pay to have your bike worked on.

Just throwing my .02 out here. Why couldnt you leave the pieces screwed together, maybe add a few more screws and then us a flexible filler to fill in the seem. Then smooth out??

Skip the fender eliminator and go with an integrated rear taillight from Clear Alternatives. Just use a hack saw and bob the fender on the bike. Easy and clean to do.
I would recommend the Pyramid hugger-I have the plastic one from John and like it a lot.

I also have a 97 bird running an 03 shock on it. Only thing I can think of is that when I did the 6mm shim deal I still had plenty of threads sticking out for the locking washer thing?
I also used a little green liquid locktite, NO issue. Think you will be just fine.

bueller?

No that seems a bit too low for pulling in top gear. Granted I have not been in top gear (cant afford the ticket I would get), but I notice that when in 3 it seems to chug a touch at 4500.

There are more versed peeps than me in this area but I am going to say you need to shift down to fourth or third. At about 6-6500 RPM in third I am doing 105mph. I have never had my bike in 6th gear yet.

I just installed a Puig double bubble on my 97 and am concerned about the "lens acting like a magnifying glass and concentrating heat". I purchased the dark smoke, is this going to be an issue?
TIA

Gotta agree with MileHi, I did the DIY kit for my Traxxion order (same everything as yours) and there is NO adjustment screw visible or accessible on the lower part of fork. Only thing there is the allen head screw that holds the cartridges in place.

I've only found one place to get them and they put you on a 8-9+ month waiting list. Alternatively, you can pay me to make them for you
I've ordered materials and will be making my first set (starting with the upper, lowers, and maybe the front fender) within a month or so.
FSB-Keep us posted on this project, I for one am very interested in it

Fuck all you haters! I have an '02 and I know what he's talking about -- it's fucking FAST, man! It corners way better than a Buell XB9R, too -- almost as good as my Factory Racing Special GL1800RR. The XX cornered so well when I got it, that I had to lower the front and rear an inch so that the MotoGP bikes could keep up with me on the track at least in the corners. Still can't hang with me in the straights, though, since I have ~140 more cc. That Nicky Hayden guy has never seen anything but the Pyramid undertail on mine, baby.
DUDE.....did you say Factory Racing Special GL1800RR??? Holy shit I knew Honda was finally gonna get of their ass!!!!!

Once you have the front wheel off you are over half way to removing the forks. Take em off and do it right. Plus you can dump the innards to see how bad the bushings and what not are worn.
Very easy job

Very cool, thank you!!!!
What is the best average for raising the forks?
