  1. Hello...Dave? I was just kidding about that rash thing. Sorry.
  2. Jeez, Dave. Did you have a rash or some other skin infection that was common knowledge around here? I can't believe you haven't gotten any action on this jacket. It's not what I was looking for but anything to help out .........$100.00? Train
  3. SOB!! That went quick..............let us know if it doesn't work out. Train
  4. Received the Sw-Motech alu-rack with spacers. Great condition. The Givi cases came in yesterday. I'm looking forward to mounting them tonight. I'll have a Blackwing when this is all said and done. Thanks,
  5. Texxas- Care to share the name of this shop? I've got a '99 that seems to be perfect. But I'm always interested in hearing about quality and trustworthy shops as they seem to be few and far between. PM me if you don't want to broadcast the m name. Thanks, Train
  6. I'm in Houston and commute in this hot weather daily. Usually I'm on the freeway or the HOV lane making 50+mph so no heat problems at all. But the last few miles of my communte home, I'm in stop and go traffic for about 2 miles. I have a '99 with a analogue temp gauge. I have only seen the needle pass the upper white line once and it was only for a moment or two, however the needle does seem to stay pegged on the upper white line for a good portion of the time I'm in stop and go. IF I get a chance to go about 20mph in 2nd for 100 yds I can see the needle drop to about the half way point in the guage. I had heard that the water pump works from 2k rpm but really hadn't seen anything happen while holding 2k in traffic. Maybe 4k is the answer. I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of looks I get from the cagers around me when I hold 4k and let the D&D pipe sing out loud. Does anybody know what the temp correlates with the upper white line on the analogue gauge? The lower line? CxBxR -- Where in south Texas is your South Texas? Train
  7. I'm getting up the courage to buy a topcase and mounting bracket. Seems like twistedthrottle has the better prices for new equipment. I plan on getting the backrest option and foregoing the brake light kit. Anybody have a secret dealer that beats the twisted throttle price? Train
  8. I've seen the bike and can verify the claims made.....Let me know if anyone is interested and I'll forward contact info. For sale is my 1998 Honda VFR800 Fi Interceptor. It has been well maintained and is in near perfect condition. It has 21k miles. It has never been dropped or wrecked. Looks and runs great. The bike has a few extras, such as a Micron high side pipe (great sound), Mag-knight magnetic tank protector, cruise control, gel grips and factory tinted windshield. Recent full tuneup, oil, filter, air filter, plugs, brake pads and new battery. Maintenance manual, original pipe and clear windshield included. Plenty of tread left on the Dunlop D208 Sportmax tires. The bike is in the sport touring class and is comfortable to ride cross country, since it does not have an extreme riding position. The engine is a 105 hp V4 800cc with 6 speed trans. The rear seat cowling comes off for dual riding. It also has a center stand. I have the title in hand, so it is ready to go. Price: $4,700 (obo)
  9. THe Pilot Road is on and bike rides straight (around the block a couple of times). I'm glad I had the extra pair of hands on this first time to mount the wheel. I would have had a bit of a struggle keeping the spacers, rear caliper and axle all lined up and good. It is, of course, raining in Houston so my longer highway speed test ride will have to wait. Thanks to everybody for the input and sage advice. Train
  10. Thanks everybody for the input. I've decided to go with the Pilot Roads 180/55 from Cycle Gear at $149.99 and $20 to mount. Last night I got all geared up to remove the rear wheel. I have a friend from out of town staying with us for a few days. He has a 2007 VROD that he has done some work on and feels like a Teutel so he was geeked up about helping me work on the 'bird. I brewed a pot of coffee, he got a fresh pack of smokes. We were ready to spend some quality time in the garage, turning wrenches, grunting, being manly men for at least a couple of hours. You can imagine our dumb-ass demeanor 10 minutes later when the wheel was off. I hadn't even gotten to the second sip of my coffee and he hadn't even peeled the cellophane from his smokes. Hell, my finance hadn't even gotten home from work! WTF!? So we cleaned the chain, recharged the KN filter (with only 4K miles worth of dirt on it), then we cleaned up the tire and rim, just looking for things to do. The wheel bearings turn smoothly, the spocket shows no wear. I showed him how easy it was to remove/install the lower and inner fairings. "Sonuvabitch, Honda's are easy to work on." Yup. When we put the wheel back on tonight, I'm anticipating it being as easy as removing it. Anything in particular I should be on the look out for? Should I be thinking about regreasing the axle or bearings? I don't think so but it has been years since I maintained a motorcycle on a regular basis. Sure would hate to treat such a beautiful, sweet bike poorly. Again, I appreciate all the feed back. It really helps. Train
  11. The dealership was asking $144 and $175 for the Pilot powers. And then $60 per tire to mount and balance. I was a bit taken aback. Those prices caused me to be suspicious of all thier other prices. I had looked online and at mail-order catalogues so I had an idea of what the prices could be. I'm not against a business making some profit, even a lot of it if they can, but if your pricing stategy alienates some potential customers perhaps it should be re-visited. Of course, the dealership isn't really in the tire selling business, are they? anyway.....so a 190 section tire will fit? Other than a bit bigger tire, what does that do for me? Thanks all for the input..... Train
  12. I was by a dealership last week end to pick up an oil filter and asked how much they would charge to put a couple of tires on the ol' bike. I was surprised when the guy said $60....per tire. My quick mental math let me know that paying them $120 to install some Pilot Powers ($144 front $175 rear) was just not going to happen. In fact, those prices made me question how bad I was getting screwed on a $12.98 oil filter. (Anybody have a Honda dealership or motorcycle shop they trust in the Houston area? I'm about 2k away from the 16K service interval and have started thinking about where I might take the bike for the check-up/adjustment.....) I couple of the guys I work with swear by the local Cyclegear as the best place to buy and have tires mounted. I think they are charging $15 or so a mounted tire. I can live with that. Thanks for this good information. I think I'll go ahead and give the Dunlops a try. Train

    Dunlops?

My Pilot Power rear is getting flat in the middle due to my, relatively, boring commute (60 mile round trip on the freeway). I was considering getting a Pilot Road for wear longevity. Poking around the internet I came across a two for one deal at cyclegear for D208-ZRs, front and rear for $149. Price is good but I am not so familiar with these tires. I'm not an aggressive rider and the majority of my riding is done going back and forth to work with an occasional week end road trip (two-up 2.5-3 hour each way) thrown in. I am looking forward to TeXXt in October where I anticipate seeing more curves and elevation changes in two days than I see in 4 months in Houston! I'm sure the Dunlops would wear quicker than the Roads but...two tires for the price on one Mich. Pilot Roads rear is attractive. What else do I need to know about the D208-ZRs to make a good decision? THanks for any input. Train
  14. CCTX- Did you install the PCIII and set it up or did a shop handle that for you? I'm assuming that the D&D/KN combo is common enough that I could find a map to use online or from one of our fine companions here. Anyone? I've had the bike for 3K and have always thought it smelled rich, if that makes any sense. I just about to hit the 14K total miles mark and am considering what all needs to be done/checked and if, when the bike is getting her 15K service work, adding a PCIII is a worth while expense. What do you mean by "really woke up" your bike? Train
  15. I have a '99 with a D&D single can and a K&N airfilter. They came with the bike when I got it. I also got both stock mufflers and the header with the bike. I've wondered what I am missing by not having a PC or other such thing. I like the performance just fine but have that nagging suspicion that it is not all it could be. I'm not trying to set a land speed record or the best 1/4 mile time, this is my daily commuter after all, but am I getting the most of the K&N and D&D? Hell, could I get better gas mileage? Not that that is all that crucial, but what if? What the hell am I worried about? I live and work in Houston, my number one concern right now is the temp gauge! I know I'm ok as long is it doesn't get past the white line on top but damn I hate seeing the needle live up there on the ride home. Stupid traffic!! Don't they know me and my baby need to MOVE? Oh well..... Train
