Didn't someone rig up something that mounted to the windscreen bolts? Looked unusual to me, but if it worked... I've always thought a 4-LED strip under each mirror would be very effective and not disturb the lines of the bike too much.
Do you have a pic of the type of LED you are referring to?
I like the additional jight concept as it could be dialed in and focused independently.
Saw these on the Busa board...This looks promising. Anyone have first hand knowledge of how bright these are???????????

They might be wider than the 'bird mirror, I'd have to measure. They used to have a 4-bulb, but I don't see it now. I have their 4-bulb cubes, they are unbelievable. Dualsport/adventure bike guys use one spot and one flood to great effect - that's what I have.
These may be of interest as well:

Rigid makes great stuff. If you are going to go the LED flood light, make sure that you are prepared to treat it as a flood. It is not a driving light unless it has a good amount of lenses up front that direct the light.
Without lenses it will blind the absolute hell out of drivers at night.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but don't projectors operate independently of the reflector? That could possibly negate one of your objections to HID. After looking at theretrofitsource.com website, I'm going to be calling them to discuss options for the 990 Adventure and probably my pickup (thanks for the link).
My objection is the startup time for HID when used as a high beam. There's an incandescent alternative for the high beam, I'll have to hunt around for the source for them - it's a pretty meaningful difference. Let me know if you're interested - it's posted here somewhere, but I'll track it down for ya.
I don't know if you've ever seen an HID up and running on the 'bird as a low beam, but it's like it was designed for an HID drop-in. Great pattern and cutoff.

Exactly. Basically, to retrofit the housing assembly you cut off the back of the reflector and epoxy the back of the projector housing in. It sounds complicated but it is quite easy. Since you are putting the projector into the reflector housing, you still have full adjustment of the reflector.
I have a stage III kit on my Mitsu Eclipse. It is a bieoxon kit so there is zero "burn-in" time for the high beams. The high beams are controlled by simply flipping a little shutter that allows more light to go above the cutoff line. Basically, the cutoff is moved by the servo.
The benefits are outstanding. Instant highbeams. No burn-in time. And you get two high beams and two low beams.
Make sure you get the right wiring harness to hook up to the battery. This will eliminate any flickering issues that cheap kits w/o wiring harnesses have.
BTW: They are a GREAT small company. If something you get doesn't work, they will make good on it. The same guy usually answers the phone and he will walk you through issues.
Here is a similar retro.... Pretty cool

Get a projector HID kit from theretrofitsource.com. Freaking awesome.
Nothing else compares.

I had this system for my VFR. High quality stuff.

Diesel

I've always heard that about WD40 harming the grease inside. But in order to do that, it would have to damage the x/o seals first. Nothing is getting by those things till they are shot and worn out.
I always use WD40 and my DID chains last 30,000+. Still have the original chain on my F4i with 29k on the clock. No sign of needed replacement in sight.

Using a fuel that contains quite a bit of oil to clean an engine compartment seems like a bad idea. I mean to really saturate it.
It is really hard to tell what oils act like solvents and eat plastic and what solvents clean and do not damage. Clearcoat is pretty fragile stuff. I wouldn't chance it.
I wouldn't hesitate to use it on the rims though.

If it'll turn, it's not that wedged in there.
I'd put a small bend on the end of a piece of heavy wire (coat hanger might work) and try to hook the interior of the engagement hole with that.
thats what i was going to say. Coathanger with a small hook bent on it.

Hope things look up for ya. If i was you i'd post some pics!!

I suppose you're not interested in a XX trade if you need the cash.
I have always wanted an RC.

Anything <$20 is a screaming deal right now.

I have about 10 of these. 3-4 of them are brand new, never opened. Otheres have been opened but look like they are in very good shape. Perfect for garage or home use. I'm keeping one for myself for garage use.
There is a female threaded socket (think end cap) between these plates that allow you to screw in a pole and mount 2 tvs from the ceiling or floor. Pretty cool. Or you could just screw one into the drywall or 2x4 and you'd have a nice adjustable tv mount for 1 tv.
I have a couple of mounting hardware kits, but i do not have poles or stands.
These sell for $300+ new.
How about $99 or BO or a good trade.. bike stuff: luggage, helmets, battery tenders,,,,. Gun stuff: ammo, scopes...
These do weigh quite a bit. Likely 10-15lbs. I will only charge COST for shipping.

I bought this when they first came out 2-3 years ago. I have used it very few times and it works perfectly. It is in great shape and I still have the rubber boot style lens covers for it. I think i still have the box too, but will look.
This sits on my .22 plinker, but is very popular for AR platforms as it looks a lot like an ACOG. I have it set up to co-witness with my BUIS. It does this VERY well.
I hope it comes across in the pictures, because it matches the finish well on AR's.
Notice that there are BUIS in the top of the scope. Very cool backup feature.
New $165
Sell for $110
Ship for cost...say $8
Open to trades for other cool gun stuff like sights, scopes, ECOG+cash, mags, ammo,,ect

So cardboard and ziptie up 25% of the radiator and see if that helps.

I recommend the clear case, amber. I have a set and they are impressively bright.
It is really funny you say use GSXR turn signal lights. I have a '04 GSXR 750 and those do not have turn signals in their mirrors. However the later years do. A local guy had some late modle mirrors for sale and i installed them on my '04. They look great! Really easy install too.

Not sure what bulb is in there, but i can assure you it is a common bulb. This means there is a plug and play LED replacement for it over on either superbrightleds.com or autolumination.
Pull it apart and take a pic...we can find ya the right bulb.
-
Stick some of these on the front of your mirrors. They are small, bend and crazy bright.
-
Where did you get the LEDs? I'll try chopping mine up and soldering shit.
I actually did a how-to on the project.

The best are orange-red superflux from Lumileds. The orange red shine through red housings better than red.
Buy a tube (60) from this guy if he will sell just one. Or buy them all and sell what you dont use off. The amber ROCK for turn signals This is a good forum for electronics stuff. http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/showthread...ange-and-Amber)
I actually have an extra, new 50LED programable module, if you are interested. I'll sell it for less than the normal new prices of around $50.

A band saw will work nicely. But it will leave lines on the cuts.
If you choose to go the table saw route, just make damn sure you don't get it caught and have metal flung back at you at 1000 fps. Personally, i wouldn't do that. To many hard learned lessons.
