  1. Before changing parts, check that the vacuum hose is connected to the petcock,

    or if it is cracked. It's the one coming out from the engine to the front of the petcock.

    It happened to my wife’s bike. The hose was cracked at the end, and had fallen off.

    I cut of 2 cm, and reconnected it.

Well I put the battery in on Saturday and she was running OK but I could not get my VM to give me a good reading yesterday :icon_frown: while doing some checks so I went out today and got myself a nice new Digital Multimeter and did the checks as per the above thread and it looks like the Stator is OK but the RR is fucked :icon_doh: :icon_frown: Rang up the stealer and ordered a new upgraded RR, $217AUD and should be here on Wednesday arvo so looks like I will be driving my truck tomorrow( Oh well supposed to be raining anyway :icon_surprised: ) Thanks to all for the help with this :icon_wink:

    Same happened to me. First part that broke was he R/R.

    It's a typical Honda problem. A girlfriends Fireblade caught fire because of it.

    All cables melted and the bodywork started burning. :icon_flame:

  3. Having now checked this out further, it seems my Y pipe is absolutely right however there is no answer as to Y it's like this, thanks guys for the help

    On the pics on US models the bottom tap it says nothing, but the T on the breather on

    European models goes to the tap on the bottom of the petcock.

  4. Did you have to drain the tank to replace the diaphragm, or will shutting off the petcock stop the flow when the diaphragm is removed?. I'm thinking I should replace mine now as cheap insurance.

    I have a small pump, and drained the tank. It's now upside-down on a blanket.

    It's much easier to work with it this way.

    The petcock stop at the off mark it shuts of the flow, but a couple of mm offset, fuel flows.

    Could you tell us where you ordered the diaphragm and how much does it cost? Mine is a 97 and may

    be it's a good idea to replace it before it leaks... (Ron Ayers doesn't list the diaphragm separately)

    I assume that with the petcock turned off, removing the diaphragm will not cause any gas to run out?

    You don't get it separately. It comes in set with covers at about $31

    The fuel don’t run out, but if you flip it upside-down, it flows out of the vent plug. :icon_doh:

    I emptied the tank, and it had only a splash left. After a day I smelled gas fumes, and the fucker leaked

    out from the vent plug. I don't understand how it could ?!

    Work with it without flipping it.

  6. I don't know how it got that bad. This is the second part on the bike that has broken.

    I bought the bike in 2000, and the first part that had to be changed was the

    regulator/rectifier. That was in 2004, and in October last year the bike suddenly died in the

    end of a 1100 mile trip. I didn't bother to look at it before now.

    It is the first time I have taken any body parts of it. I put the bike in every year for service,

    and it has never died or given me any headache before. I was amazed at how big the rift at the

    diaphragm was. But now the bike has almost 30.000 miles on the meter, some parts should start

    to show some wear and tear.

    2 parts in 7 years is nothing to complain about.

    The bird is a sweet and loveable ride.

    Can’t get any better. :icon_redface:

    Ps. I forgot. I've changed the battery once.

    now after reading this board I disassembled the petcock.

    Here's the cause. :icon_wall:

    the hoses. :icon_doh:

    Does any have a pic of a 97/98 petcock with the fuel lines

    and vacuum hoses attached ? And does anyone have a

    spare part catalog on file ?

    I need to get a new diaphragm.
