  1. OK, color me stupid but.............. Are the levers going to adjust in steps like the stockers or infinatley adjustable within a certain range? (does that make sense?)
  2. The details of my experience are pretty much all there. I can add: After I installed the K&N the bike felt a little sluggish all around but at higher revs is stumbled pretty bad. At higher elevation the stumble came on a little earlier and more pronounced. At a certain RPM at full throttle the bike basically stopped pulling and just made noise. If I recall correctly at lower elevation it hit at about 8000 RPM. Up higher around 7000. I put the stock filter back in and all was fine at all elevations. I'm reasonably sure the bike has never been re-jetted. My home elevation is about 4500. I've been very happy with K&N Filters. I've never had an experience like this with them before. I've but them in my KLR 650 and Concours within a month of getting them out of the box and they helped a lot. I immediately noticed the bike was breathing better. I did not re-jet either bike. I liked what it did to an XR600. I've had good luck with them in cars also. Based upon my experience and limited knowledge the stock XX filter flows better than a K&N. Until someone can convince me I'm wrong I'm sticking to my opinion. I am not an expert of any kind. I am just basing it upon what we all know. Which is the air is thinner at higher elevations. The only variables I had were 2 air filters and different altitudes. Same day, same ride, same tank of gas, same wrist whacking the throttle WFO and holding it there. Merry Chritmas all of you. Now get off the computer and go hug people you love. Thats what I'm going to do.
  3. Then why was it better at lower elevations, where there's more air? Don't you know that at higher elevations there is less fuel? Thats why Jumbo Jets need to carry so much with them. EVLXX, I think your barking up the wrong tree here. Sorry Bub.
  4. I've got a carbed bike. I tried a K&N once. It ran pretty bad at higher rev's so I figured no problem, I'll get it jetted. Before messing with jets I went for another ride, that time about 4000 feet higher (in the mountains). The bike really ran a whole lot worse there. It pretty much fell on it's face when I got on it. That pretty much told me the stock filter allowed more air flow. Granted, the K&N was new and I've heard folks say they come over oiled. I sent the K&N back and have used stock ever since. In my experience the XX is the only machine I've owned that came with a less restrictive air filter than a K&N.
  5. What? Only serious stuff in the Garage? I must have missed the memo. Will someone please send me the memo so I know that I'm actually disregarding it rather than just playing along?
  6. Theres no chance of talking any sense in to K9XX. He's as stubborn as a mule. He's convinced he's putting out at least 5 HP more than me just because I use a filter. He may be putting a little more out than me but after his engine goes I'll smoke him. He's actually got a screen over the intake to keep squirrels and birds out. Don't think he's totally clueless.
  7. ...or a blue moon  I got yer Moon :moon:
  8. I drain it until I get within .01 Imp/Oz of what I put in. I use a calibrated scale and always change it when the Barometric pressure is falling. Unless it's a Leap Year.
  9. I get butterfly's in my stomach just looking at your pics.
  10. Fucker :greenfingers: It was just too easy, sorry J, tell your friend he rocks and I'll be in touch. Yea, I know. I set it up pretty good. I'll have to be more cautious around you.
  11. Alrighty then, since you are the Garage Moderator, and you're going to do the valves I think it's only right that you post up very thorough and comprehensive instructions complete with pictures (an idiots guide if you will) for any and all of your loyal followers. Step by Step with a picture for each step is on order I think. Something that a 14 year old girl could easily follow. I would imagine 20-25 pages (notebook size) with 10 PT Font single spaced and 50 or so pictures will do it. You'll feel better knowing you did a great service to all of us.
  12. Yep, what he said. Notice that one had an elongated hole on one side. No opening up of the hole required. Bolted right up.
  13. Hey Helvet, how much will it cost to ship 1, 2 or 4 tires to Utah? :stickpoke:
  14. Whats your problem? The Cable looks fine to me. I think that 2 piece plactic part should actually be one piece though.
  15. DO NOT CUT THE SPRING! Use a few pieces of the appropriate Diameter PVC pipe and cut them for use as new Spacers. That way you can retain the stock Spacers in case your buddy ever wants to put the stock stuff back in. You can cut the new PVC Spacers very easily and set the Sag where you want it.
  16. Loose or notched head bearings is my guess. Unless you like to wheelie I'd bet loose.
