  1. Just a side note ; I did my first plug change yesterday on my 01 (37,000k) I noticed that 2 of the 4 plugs were fairly loose. They were installed at the factory.... :icon_think:

So were they installed wrong at the factory, or did they back off alittle over time.

Just wondering if this is a potential problem spot?

  2. I just purchased a 2002 CBR1100XX at a bank sale and I need to find out what what parts are interchangable with other years. It needs a front rim, rotors, calipers, brake lines, forks, triple tree, clip ons, brake master, rear rim, rotor, sprocket, rear master and lines. Basically a complete front end and rear wheel assembly and anything to do with the braking system. Thanks in advance for the help.

No sweat , your best freind is going to be E bay. As we speak there is someone parting out a whole XX on there right now.

I have put together a couple of bikes this way...before ebay came along, building a bike, or finding used parts, was a fucking nightmare.

Just take your time and buy right. Don't bid the hell out of things, there are always more parts that come up for sale.....that being said, don't bid to early either. Wait till the last 60 seconds before putting in ANY bid at all.

Barring that, have a look on this site. There are lots of parts for sale, and the guys/girls here can be very helpfull.....that is unless you piss them off, or try to fuck their mother.........good luck

  3. Got the bird tore down for yearly service before my AZ run. Did plugs , doing PAIR block, bearings , tires, new chain, etc.

I have had my side pannels (lowers) off so many times that the black plastic push plugs are getting fairly crappy.

Any of you guy's have some extras you'd like to sell? or a vender that has a fair price for them?

I priced them out through my local Honda stealer and will use zip ties before I pay what he wants for his. also, I have looked at the auto store, yes, they have ones that are similar....but they don't fit like I would like.

    Thanks

  4. My 98 dodge 1 ton's heater fan is giving me trouble.

It will only work on high, nothing on med or low.

Haven't had a chance to dig into it yet, but was wondering, anybody had this problem.

If so, was it the fan motor itself or was it the 3 position fan switch on the dash.....your thoughts

  5. Question hoping someone can shed some light on for me.

Now that I have a US made bike I had to buy a whole 2nd set of NON-metric tools.

Why would they put bolts that take a TORX head and an Allen or HEX head on the same bike?

I never knew TORX even existed before the Harley.

AND....why is the 8 piece TORX ratchet set $39.99 and the Hex 8 piece set $14.99.

I already snapped the TORX head off the ratchet. Thankful Sears is so easy with the Life Time warranty.

ALSO....what is the difference between SAE and regular stuff ?

    Thanks

    SAE= Society of Automotive Engineers

In the case of tools, this just means that all tool sizes are the same no watter who makes then or where. 3/8's is 3/8's....there is no difference.

  6. I know there are many opinions, but which is the best aftermarket exhaust system for the 03 XX as far as gained HP and not so loud the harleys feel bad.

Ti Force and Akrapovic give the best power gains, i think. Both are 4-2-1 systems, the yoshimura 4-2-1 system gets good hp gains as well. but as a trade off the center stand wont work on all the 4-2-1 systems. Get a full system if you want the most power. I put dual carbon fiber two brother slipons on my xx because I like how they look, like the way they, sound and they saved me alot of weight. do some thread searchs on exhaust I'm sure you will find your answers.

    +1

Also, I dropped about 35Lbs when I went to the Yoshimura 4-2-1 (the bike , not me)

  7. I'm picking up a product from my local auto body paint store this afternoon. I'll post it up later.

A buddy of mine told me about this stuff when he was looking around for something to repair his plastics. Looks like pretty good stuff and I may pick up a kit to have on hand - you know, "just in case".

    Plastex

A buddy who works at a large appliance dealer put me onto a product that they use to fix the ABS liners in fridges and freezers. I can't recall what the trade name is, I'll look it up and edit later, but it's just ABS in a jar.

It's Sandable, paintable, flexable and is pure ABS.

I saw the "Plastex" product at the last bike show and other than the color, I think it's the same stuff....but, the ABS repair that I buy from my buddy cost 15 bucks for a pint, where as the "Plastex" kit was 50$ (if I remember correctly)

I'v used this stuff quite a bit and have fixed some pretty fucked up stuff for my buddies. You should be able to get this stuff at any appliance repair place.

WTF you guys work for Homeland Security or what?

I've got this stuff DON"T know what it is DON"T know when I'll need it but it works great, and I've used it before.

then theres "I'm picking up a product from my local auto body paint store this afternoon"

    okay then agent 86

  8. Just looking to see who else is running this system on their Bird, Mines an 01, and after installing it, I noticed my mileage drop/ running rich.

Put a PCIII on , really good power, but still bad mileage. Anyone else have this problem?

    Thanks :icon_doh:

'02, full yoshi, k&n, pcIII here...

Can outer tip ring has coating of black (cleaned annually), my stock oem setup had about the same coating.

Don't check mpg (but then again i didn't buy it for mpg), but gut feel is down a couple, but probably due more to riding yoshi flavor harder at higher rpm. Ya gotta luv that tune when she's on da hump :icon_dance:

For reference, I got 199.8 miles (including coasting distance to a complete stop) on the one tank that i did check :icon_doh:

Thanks for the info...as it stands I'm getting around 160mile per tank

  10. I have been running nothing but Metzlers on both my bikes , 2 months ago I went with the M-1 /Z-6 combo on my bird, and I honestly have not noticed much difference in warm up time between the m-1 rears I usualy run and the new Z6.

Could it be that you have have a dud tire??

Did you have it dyno tuned? If not, that might be your answer.

    Jeff

Yes, the XX will visit the PC tuning center this coming March in Vegas when I'm on my yearly desert run.

Can anyone tell me what I can expect (ball park) to pay to have this bike set up?

Edit > as for gas milage, I have lost about 70 miles on my range since installing my yosh system

  13. Well duh on me... Here's the map for my '99 Bird... Yosh slipons, K&N filter and regular gas...

I just received my PC and have the same cans and filter on my '99. I downloaded your map and if I'm reading it right it is a zero map. I'm still trying to figure out how to work the software though. Is it a zero map?

    Thanks, MTXX

Just went through this with PC people , the PCIII maps will not work with anything else......the older PCI-II IIIR use a "map" file, were as the new PCIII usb uses the "DJM" file.

This totaly blows, as I put the IIIusb on my 01, and there are piss all for maps @ the PC home page, where as there are quite a few for the PCII for my year....which of course I cannot import.....

So do a little work.... no biggy.

get a print-out of the PC3 map... and then manually put it on to your PC3usb...

    why wouldn't that work ?

Thought of doing that very thing, I'll give it a whirl. Bike is going to the PC tuning center in Vegas next March, but doing the copy and paste thing for just may work....thanks , good idea.

  15. I'd like to know more about turning my running lights OFF. I have some high dollar chrome plated squid bulbs and I want to show em off. Does it matter which button on the bulb must be coverd in order to turn the running lamps off or will either button do?

It matters what one, I haven't checked mine to see what one is what.

You have a 50/50 chance, cover one contact with black tape, turn on the key if it still lights you got the wrong one.

So, then, what do you do next...... :icon_wave:
