  1. Yes, I definitely know what I'm looking for and that's largely why I don't have one yet. There's XXs around, at least three within 45 minutes to 3 hours away but, they are either asking more than I want to pay or they are pre '99. I would seriously consider a more recent year in black if I knew without any doubt that I could change the instrument cluster and get the odometer corrected. Heck, there's a '00 an hour north of me. Seller has had it posted for year for $4500 and says to me he's willing to come down to $4000. However, that price is too high. He's placing a premium on color which really doesn't do or mean anything to me. Paint is readily available. I'm sure we've all had less than stellar experiences with sellers. That's an aspect of the deal that I take into account. Even if the seller is actually selling an item they own, I'm leery to give thousands of dollars to a stranger that I don't feel is 100% truthful and that is actually responding and actively trying to sell. It's their item to do as they please and I'm sure they don't want their time wasted with tire kickers. I know that I feel the same way when I'm selling an item of any kind. I've got Craigslist searches setup for all of WA, OR, CA, ID, MT, UT, NV, CO. Pretty much anywhere I can get to withing two days of driving. Or one day of hard driving. FB marketplace takes a bit more time to search through but, I'm still actively searching it. I primarily work from home but, I'll be in SD in a couple months. Until then, have truck, will travel for the right deal.
  2. Palm Springs bike sold in a matter of hours last night. Oregon bike was sold some time ago and never marked as sold.
  3. People really are amazing. A 2000 has come to the market in Palm Springs and I’m awaiting a reply from the seller. I also got a online look at a 2003 in Oregon that has been posted for six months in multiple places. The seller is still active. In one listing it’s $3750. The other $3500. I sent a message asking if he’ll take $2900. We shall see.
  4. He's now made another post of the same bike. Updated the location, added pics, added text. Hasn't returned my call. Whatev, man. https://inlandempire.craigslist.org/cto/d/perris-1999-honda-cbr1100xx-blackbird/7062439354.html
  5. Thanks for the input. The more I ask and learn, I’m leaning toward just sticking with a ‘99. Changing the cluster sounds like a dicey proposition to me.
  6. Well if it's just crack we don't have to worry about him putting his feet on anyone's couch.
  7. The saga continues.... Seller is slow to respond to calls and texts. Bike is not located where the post says it is. It's in a different city 50+ miles away in storage. Combining information gathered from all the images I've seen, I locate the storage facility thanks to Google Maps satellite view and 3D, and have a decent idea of which bay it's in. Perhaps there's a bit too much information available on the web.
  8. Have you seen this or have an image of this different wiring connection?
  9. Sent you a PM to see if you we are on the same page.
  10. In the past I moved forward with a vehicle purchase based on that sentiment. Three years later when people ask if I'm still liking it my response is, "If I would have waited a bit longer, I would have got something else." It's been 19 years since they changed the cluster and I don't think I'll start taking a shine to it any time soon.
  11. Is it possible, has anyone changed one of the Fi model digital cluster to a Fi analog cluster? In my quest, it appears that I come to a pass often going from ‘98 to ‘03. Most often I’m seeing ‘03 in black which is the color I prefer but, they have the digital cluster that I don’t care for.
  12. If another two days go by, might have to move on. Who knows what is going on in his life.
  13. Bird is still the word. Some birds are just flying slow.
  14. For real? Awesome! Thank you. That could open up some possibilities.
  15. Up here in WA the law is that any aftermarket exhaust can't be louder than OEM. Whatever man...but still. I like the stock exhaust. There's a set of stock mufflers in the market place up here. I might get those if they are still around when I finally get an XX, and try out some other colors on them.
  16. I like the stock exhaust and can't say that I've ever seen aftermarket on a XX that I liked the look of better. And, I'm not into single sided exhaust unless it's on a single sided swingarm. Yes, I don't think I'd ride too long with those red wheels. I've got a blast cabinet, HVLP, spray booth and an oven 😀. Business has been slow since July but, I refinish firearms from time to time. I hear that decals come off easily with a little heat and I've got a heat gun.
  17. On top of all that..he has it listed in the parts section. I sent him a email last night and await a response. Those wheels and extra decals are killing me. Luggage isn't the most flattering but...I don't know. It's definitely looking like a desirable setup. I was using an app last night to search all the areas with saved keyword combinations and came a across a OEM windshield for free in SF. I went to click it and the app crashed. Now I haven't been able to find it.
  18. WOW. Your Craigslist Google-Fu is vastly superior to mine. I'm going to contact him and see what the story is. Thank you. I really don't know how I missed this one.
  19. In most of my west of rockies findings, bikes are posted for $3000-$4000 with a few sellers asking for even more. A '00 for $5900???? All of these bikes have posted for weeks, months, and a couple for at least a year. Yet, no one has been interested in getting off their high price. It seems that the more I look, the less I'm willing to pay.
  20. That is very generous of you. I may need to take you up on that. It's an hour and half south of that zip code as the crow flies. Probably an hour as the Bird flies.
  21. I've got my eye on one in SoCal, just waiting on some peeps of mine to get their eyes on it. Kind of hard to justify the trip down without having it looked at first. It's a four day round trip.
