  1. Went to the audiologist and had a set made.

    $25 an ear.

    Do it.

I went this route too. Shop around because the price is dramatically different from place to place. My only complaint is that under the helmet, if you move your jaw around, they will come lose and feel weird, then you can't get your hand in to fix it.

I like the cheap waxey looking ones from the drug store.

How did I get this in twice? Sorry.

  3. A new one from Ron Ayers or Honda Direct Line (the cheapest I found) is about $410) Keep in mind that it will be painted and ready to go. I also tried to find a nice cowl and it's damn near impossible. There was a black one a couple of months ago, but by the time I bought it and had it painted I could have bought a new one. I take it you bought the one off e-bay that's always for sale and has a bad reputation.

    My 2 cents.

  4. I've owned three different XXs. On each one the inside left muffler almost touches the swingarm. The clearance is around 5-10mm. A left side tipover can push the can even closer.

Here's how I've created more clearance.

Loosen the muffler inlet clamp, footpeg clamp and mid-muffler attachment bolt. Rotate the muffler up and away (to the outside). Tighten down the inlet clamp first, the footpeg bolt second and mid-muffler bolt last. Also consider loosening the footpeg bracket itself.

Basically loosen everything, re-position the muffler and tighten everything, starting at the front and working to the rear.

Good thinking. I'm also going to measure from the left passenger peg to the tire, and then compare it to the right.

  5. I know this may have been discussed before, but.....I was standing behind the bird looking at the exhaust. The left cannister is closer to the tire than the right. It doesn't touch the swingarm but is close. How does this happen. It is a very low miles 2001. (2900).

    I think:

    1. Some fatty stood on the passenger peg to mount up before I bought it.

    2. I, or the P.O. strapped it down too tight on a trailer and bent the support.

    3. Honda designed it that way. (Nah).

    4. It's an optical illusion. (Nah).

    5. Crash damage. (The cannister doesn't even touch the ground in a tipover. don't ask how I know. Damn.)(Nah. everything around it is perfect.)

I'm leaning towards 1. Is the subframe weak there? What is the fix? Pull in the other direction? Spacer? Stop whining? Hookers?

  6. Where can I buy them new?

Cima International in Chicago. Go to Google and search Bagster. That will lead you to a French site. Look for a distributer in the US. As far as I can tell, you need to call Cima. Remember that the Euro colors are different than US colors. My 2001 Red (called Light Claret in Europe) is actually a 2000 color in Europe. I have seen a color chip chart on the internet but when I tried to print it and hold it up to the bike it didn't look right. Too many variables.

I haven't decided to try the "Light Claret" or just go black. Let me know how you like it.

Trying to find a used one is about impossible. I've watched e-bay and the boards for a year. (although I did buy a tankbag off e-bay to fit the bagster.)

  7. Should I solder or crimp new spade connectors on the wires and reinsert in connector?

I think so. You can remove the pins from the Molex (I think), attach them to the wires, and put them back in. Like new.

  8. Found these on Egay, Not what I'd consider reasonable, but others might...

Not reasonable at all. I paid $230 delivered from my dealer, new. I don't know how much difference there is between the VFR bars and Heli's, but a small change in bars makes a big change in the way you sit. If you go too high you'll just be in the wind all the time. Part of it is learning how to sit on the bike. I find sliding as far forward as you can on the seat makes you sit straighter.
