  1. Here's my 2c: I have Helibars on my VTR1000F and VFR bars on my XX and I think the VFR bars look W-A-Y better.

Keep in mind that you have to use 43mm clipons which means 2nd Gen (2002-) VFR800 only not 1st Gen (98-01). Also see if you can get hold of the right switchgear from any year VFR800, it just works better.

    Other thread

I went for the VFR bars. Bjorn had spare set and he sent me them already.

When I had my '99 XX, I replaced originals with VFR bars and liked them a lot. That's why I wanted for this bike as well.

    Shipped :icon_biggrin:

    Takk Bjørn. :icon_biggrin:

    Bare hyggelig :icon_biggrin:

And you got the Norwegian letter right too. Hyvä poika :icon_surprised:

  2. Sounds great. Also sounds expensive.

    Nope...the Sena was $149.00.

Bill....question. I have your exact set up. Sena, iPhone, 660.

If I want to broadcast my music through the goldwing speakers can I pair the 660 with my iPhone and have the music on my iPhone play through the 660? My 660 plugs into the audio jack of the wing. So...if the music DOES stream via bluetooth from the iPhone to the 660 I can get rid of the SD card I am using for music that is in the 660.

If I can do what I am asking...how do you control the music? On the iPhone or the 660?

I'm considering replacing the old Garmin 2610 with a Zumo 660.

How easy is it to do on the Wing Dave ?

Personally....I liked my Zumo 550 better than the 660. For one single reason....the tactile buttons on the 550 made it easy for me to advance or reverse songs. If I wanted the next song...I hit the + button...DONE.

Now...I need to exit the map screen by hitting the "NOTE" icon then advancing the song then hitting the "BACK" icon to get back to my map. I hate having to do all that to skip a song.

Other than that....it's a great unit. Do you have a specific question? Easy to hard wire, east to integrate with the AUX cord, takes SD cards to load up music....it's awesome.

    You said it :icon_biggrin:

I just wondered how easy it was to hardwire it to the bike.

I have a 5 cd changer, and a 32 GB MP3 player connected to the stereo,

so no music is needed from the GPS :)

  4. Nice work. Don't forget to service the lift. Lubricate chain etc... :icon_biggrin:

WD-40 or chain wax? Or maybe a Scottoiler? :icon_biggrin:

LOL, not a bad idea. :icon_biggrin:

I prefer stor and lube :icon_rolleyes:

We have a bunch of forklifts at work, and if they're not serviced every year

the wear and tear on them gets costly.

  5. Several members here have Cortech Super Minis. Its a great looking tank bag and works really well for what you described. I just bought a Cortech Super 10 because I wanted a little bit more room than the Super Mini and so far I am happy with it. It fits the bird well.

I also have a Givi Tank Pocket for around town. Its very small. Glasses, keys, phone and maybe a couple other items are about all its big enough to hold.

Thanks for the tips. It sounds like the Super 10 is about the size I need. What do you do about tank covers? I now have a Lockhart 1/2 cover and like it so far. Will it work out with a Cortech bag? If so, will the magnetic or strap style be better with the 1/2cover or do you think its better to go with a full cover?

If you want a tank cover and a bag, BAGSTER is the best. Had mine for 11 years now.

You clip the bag to the cover. Quick and easy and no magnetic that can scratch the tank.

The bag holds 30 bottles of beer :icon_evilgrin:

I had the tank cover on all my bikes.

I have been riding the my 83 Suzuki GS750ES for over 20 years and am really looking forward this new (old) bike. I can't wait to hit the road!

    Nice! :icon_thumbsup:

    Same as mine.

I drove my 84 GSX750ES for years, and bought my first Blackbird in 2000

  6. That's what I'm talkin about. Thanks to you all.

The battery is 7 years old so I'll go get another and check the stuff you guys mentioned.

The Bird has always been so trouble free it's a next stage of life to realize that it's time to look into things I have not needed to before.

    CHANGE IT !!!!!!

And I wouldn't bother checking the rest so much :icon_rolleyes:

If it's charging about 14V when idle it's ok.

  7. Thanks. I was lost on the fact that the shock is connected to the swingarm-DUH!! I will have my buddy give me a hand.

Thanks for the advice, and for not pointing out too much how stupid I was. That is why I love the .org!!!

And just one more question: the open end of the shim should face forward??

Post up some porn, and we'll forget the rest :icon_evilgrin:

  8. Unless I get stuck in bumper to bumper traffic, my 97 runs just off the first mark on the low temp side of the gauge. I have never seen it near the high mark...

+2 Carb Birds run cooler because they have a larger radiator.

    +3

Noticed big difference on my 97 and 05.

  9. Any idea how much force it takes to bend a fork?

    Yepp!

Been there and done that :icon_whistle:

    But not on an XX.

I had a big mishap on the old Suzuki and drove of the road and had 60 mph

on the meter when I went out of road :icon_rolleyes:

Hit a ditch and flew of the bike. I and the bike was roughed up pretty good,

but I got it back on the road . Noticed the forks were bent and drove home.

Had those in a machine shop, and it had 10 mm clearance. Could almost

put my pinky under it. They filled it with sand and got it 99% right.

Didn’t notice anything wrong after, but on an XX I would have change them.

  10. The CBR1100XX has a chain? I was told it had a belt drive like a Buell when I got it 3 yrs ago. Crud.....you think my chain needs to be cleaned?

Did that to my first bike. Newbie and all with no experience of bikes.

First time I glanced at the chain it was red with rust :icon_rolleyes:

It didn't help much with lubricating after that.....

  11. So with the cold weather setting in for us Higher elevation and Latitude guys, the question crossed my brain...

How long should a person let there engine warm up before driving/Riding ?

So say the vehicle has been sitting outside overnight and the temp gets down to 10 degrees. Or maybe even colder... I've seen below zero a few morning here lately.

Car, Bike, Truck... newer or older engine... whatever, whichever...

    30 seconds ?

    1 minute ?

Until the needle on the temp gage starts to Rise ?

    ....

What do you do... or what have you been told is the best practice ?

    ...

Second part... I wonder how long it going to take before a certain individual from Arizona chimes in with one of his classic comments?

    :icon_razz:

I don't wait. I start the car, and drive when it runs smooth.

Cold at low RPM's ( idle) the oil pressure isn't that good to the top, and the head might not get

    the best lubricant.

But don't push the pedal to the metal to get it hotter :icon_whistle:

  12. Hey Guys,

    I bought it for $500 :icon_surprised:

It fell out of the back of a parked moving truck. Landed on the front end. Tweaked the forks shattered the head light and bent the fairing stay. Everything else looks pretty good. Motor sounds great, Couple small tears in the seat, needs forks, all the plastic, headlight, front turn signals and mirrors.

It wont ever be the nicest Blackbird on the road but I'm stoked never the less.

    Auzzi152- aka Andrew...

    Daym.

A lot of members in here with extras laying around.

    Good luck :icon_biggrin:
