    Blowin 10Amps

Chances are it's the CA.. Did you change anything else at all besides th CA between tests? No - I had not even connected the turn signal lights M

    Blowin 10Amps

OK, I put the old style bulbs back in the tail light receptacles - and also replaced the blown 10A fuse - and turned it on. All is well - the tail lights work right, brake light works right. Connect the CA - and I blow another fuse. Could this be anything except the CA unit? Mike

    Blowin 10Amps

I guess what I'll do is put the stock bulbs back in and see if they affect the fuse. if they don't then I can look at teh CA unit next. I need to get some 10A fuses...at an auto parts store? They're pretty small. It's obviously been a while since I changed fuses. Thanks for the help. M
  4. I got a Clear Alternatives integrated tail light from John's Bike Bits, along with some other bits. As usual, John gave very prompt service and the stuff arrived quickly. The tail light has been in the garage for weeks now, and so I took off my GIVI box and soft saddlebags and tail fairing to got a good look - during a rainy weekend . I took the stock tail light off - pretty easy - and so far, I still have the stock rear turn signals attached and connected. I attached the Clear alternatives tail lights only - and I'm blowing a 10A fuse - that controls the FI light, tach, neutral light and oil light. Anybody have any ideas what I should check - or have follow-up questions that might help me find the source of the problem? Thanks, team :icon_think: Mike
  5. I'm having trouble finding the releases for the front of the tank. In the manual, they have you look for the rubber grommets - it looks obvious, but mycycle (a 2000) doesn't work that way. Any ideas?
  6. Not sure if it'll work in my 2000... preliminary PM sent...going to pass on this one.

    Chain Time

My 2000 xx is in need of a chain - it has some bad tight and loose spots. The chain has 24K miles. I got it with 16K and I've put the balance of miles on relatively gently. So - I'm planning to order a DID from White Buffalo Racing. The question for the rest of you: should I assume I'll need a front sprocket? The rear sprocket looks great. If I should order the front sprocket, are there better / worse brands, etc? What do I need to know? alloys, brands... Thanks to Hobicus, I have a great How-to replace the chain step by step. Thanks, Mike
  8. Really.....If they can do that this bike is a keeper. At 2 different stops today I had people come up and ask what this Black Motorcycle was. It's nice having something somewhat rare. Thanks for the advice. I'll try and get some of those bars. that's one of the things that got me to look at a BB - "the stealth factor" - no big, goofy asian characters - like some cycles. Then there's the ride - case closed. Of course, mine's a 2000 - so it's the ti color. Mike
  9. I think I bought it new for about $140. The new model was $159 plus shipping.
  10. I put last year's jacket on Ebay - don't really need 2, and I prefer "screaming yellow" high visibility. Black XL TourMaster ADX; exc condit; with liner. Very black, though photos show it lighter to show detail (should not have photographed against white garage doors) Smoke free house; bug-free jacket...any questions? B.I.N. $80 Mike http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/TourMaster-...sspagenameZWDVW
  11. I recently replaced the battery on my 2000 XX (stock, I guess - Yuasa). Since I had been in the habit of putting it on a trickle charger, I placed this new one on the charger after I had ridden the bike several times with the new battery. The charger (a 1.5 aH unit) showed that the battery was accepting a charge for between 30 and 50 minutes. My question - could there be a prob w my charging system, or is accepting a charge normal for this situation? If there might be a problem, what steps should I take to head off getting stuck somewhere? Mike

    EXHAUST ?

What about Yoshimura? The slip on sets go for about $550, I think. Too loud? Also, if the rest of the engine is stock, and you upgrade to new cans, do you need to do the Power Commander thing? Mike
  13. Those results are awesome! I have found that walking is a great exercise, but also allows me to think through problems, etc. Congratulations! Mike
  14. I've resolved to get at least 3 good workouts per week. I'm averaging about 1 or 2 right now, probably nearer to 1 A "good workout" is at least 30 min good, challenging cardio, plus some weight training and stretching. I feel like it's acheievable, and I'll build on the 3 per week as we get into the spring months. Mike
  15. SW Motek for my GIVI E52 Maxia box for the back. Attaches easily, holds well, allows for detachment of box quickly, and looks good without the GIVI box. Corbin G&L seat. Looking for a ZG Sport Touring Tall. Used to have one, but it cracked when I dropped the bird in the garage. Big bummer. Mike

    Battery Life

[For a good tutorial on batteries, go here... http://www.batterystuff.com/tutorial_battery.html I think I've found the one I'm going to order... It's a DEKA ETX14 http://www.batteryplex.com/motorcycles-det...series-list.cfm Since I sometimes run around with a heated vest on, I figure it's a good idea to have some extra juice, hence the slightly larger size. Hey, you can get a 14AH battery into the XX? That's a nice upgrade. I may do the same thing. Would make it easier when I add a widder or hand grip heaters. Mike
  17. I was in a BMW dealership - buying a new set of grips to go on a set of VFR bars - and I saw a 1999 (black-of course) XX for sale. It had a 2 Brothers Exhause 4-2-1, Corbin G&L and an Ohlins suspension with the dial and reservoir. (Obviously, I don't know anything about this Ohlins stuff). Has 61K miles, and they have it marked down to $4999. They said it belonged to a guy who worked as an aircraft tech at the Boeing plant near Phila. Looked good. FYI only. No commission for me, unfortunately It is at DeSimone MotorSport in Mt Laurel, NJ - Vice Moffa is a contact there tel 856 840-1588. Happy Hunting. Mike

  19. My "44 inch" waist comment came from other board members goofing on me because I asked (in another thread) if a Large Tour Master Transition II would fit me - 6'3" and 200lbs... Mike

    Chain Lube

I got my XX with about 15K miles. Since then, I've been using a DuPont spray that incorporates teflon. I also get the chain warm, then apply and let it set. I'm at about 22K mikes, and the chain has some tight spots. It's impossible to tell whether the DuPont stuff wasn't good, or if during the first 16K the chain wasn't very well cared for. Hmmm.
  23. I also got GREAT svc form John. He packed and shipped my order while he was preparing to leave for FLA the next morning. He's THE MAN. M
  24. I have to agree with Shane. If I were the shop owner, and figured out that I sold "vintage" tires by accident, then I'd want to replace them - labor included. This would create some goodwill in the local cycle community; we all know that one dissatisfied customer's much more likely to spread the word - like Shane is doing now. Go Shane! M
  25. I phoned the local Honda dealer and they have replacement batteries for my 2000 xx. These are the "fill em with acid, then charge slowly for 24 hrs" type I've seen batteries that use AGM (absorbed glass mat)- and are sealed. That seems pretty cool - less risk of leak, etc. Is one better than the other? More longevity, better cold cranking amps, ??? Also, I read that our bikes can use the same battery as the ST1300 - it has a little more amp hrs. Anyone know for SURE? M
