  1. I have been going thru the same nonsense with my pump. It will not pump just off the battery though, I have hooked it up to a charger, whacked it, and then squirted wd-40 into it in order to get it going again. It will work for a while and then quit again. It has been irritating to say the least. I cannot remember how long I have had it but I am sure it has been less than 2 years, I guess it is time for an e-mail.

  2. I believe there are a couple of threads floating around on this issue, but I have been using 30 wt. motor oil and it works great for me. It took me a while to get the system leaned out to avoid excess fling-off but it was worth the effort.... a nice clean shiny well oiled chain.

If you change it from what it was originally set up for, you will be essentially starting over.

  3. I just put some pilot sport hpx front and rear on mine. I am curious how they will wear but really don't give a damn as long as they stick.

One thing I will say about chrome rims is that while they are pretty, mine do not seal worth a shit. I had to use silicone to get the beads to seal. There were a couple spots where the chrome had flaked on the inside of the wheel and this kept them from sealing 100%. All fixed now and so far so good.

I did notice a somewhat unconventional profile on them also.

  4. I was interested to read your post. I have a 99 and recently purchased a 98 and had a very similar experience. I regularly go up against the rev limiter on my 99 but just for shits and giggles decided to see where it was on the 98. It was a totally different experience. It was in the top of third gear and instead of flattening out it was as if the ignition was turned off. It was so sudden the damn thing actually fishtailed on me before I pulled in the clutch and shifted into fourth.

At first I thought that the run/stop switch messed up and actually cut the ignition but the rev limiter acts totally different between the two bikes.

    Never would have expected it.

  5. CCTX-

Did you install the PCIII and set it up or did a shop handle that for you? I'm assuming that the D&D/KN combo is common enough that I could find a map to use online or from one of our fine companions here. Anyone?

I've had the bike for 3K and have always thought it smelled rich, if that makes any sense. I just about to hit the 14K total miles mark and am considering what all needs to be done/checked and if, when the bike is getting her 15K service work, adding a PCIII is a worth while expense. What do you mean by "really woke up" your bike?

It sounds like you have my bike... I have a 99 with a D&D and K&N airfilter also, although I do not see how that airfilter makes any difference.

I bought the PCIII awhile back in a group buy and installed it myself. I downloaded a map with a similar setup and have been happy with it. I did look at ALL the differences in the original and replacement map to make sure there did not seem to be anything stupid going on. It would be very easy to screw something up if you are not careful. I did notice that the replacement map was more lean than rich across the range compared to the stock map. Other than installing the downloaded map, I have not made any tweeks but plan in the near future to get this thing to a dyno and see where we are at.

The first thing I noticed was better off idle throttle response. The PCIII has a accelerator pump feature that helps the fuel injected bikes in that respect. The overall powerband seemed more linear without that 5000 rpm flatspot. There was definitely a "seat of the pants" improvement. An example would be the rpm that the bike would power wheelie dropped from 7500 or so down to 5500 or 6000 and it comes up much harder. It will come up hard just off idle if you hammer it and will slap the shit out of you if you are not ready. The mileage has never impressed me but I did not seem to notice any difference. I do not have much experience with other Birds but I just picked up a 98 and I can say that my 99 runs way better.

You can PM me if that did not address all your concerns.

    See you at TeXXt!

  6. I put a PC CommanderIII on my 99 and it really woke it up. The only modifications are a pipe and air filter and it made a very noticable difference. I downloaded a posted map with similar changes and lucked out. It is close to the factory map with a few leaner settings. The accelerator pump option made a difference also.

I am happy with mine but would like to get it on a dyno someday to get it set up properly.
