  1. If you haven't bought them yet, let me know. I will call tomorrow (work for a car dealer, we can get a discount on them), find out for sure how much, and let you know. They're $10.49 each retail according to their website.

Thanxx for the offer , have purchased already should have them tomorrow

    cheers

Edit: they cost me $10.49 free shipping

  2. Oreilly's usually can get these within 24 hours, and they are cheaper than Amazon (last time I bought them about a year ago).

Power to ya, no O'reilly's here. least expensive were ebay @$10.25 + shipping.

  3. I went out to start my bird today to run it up to temp and listen to it hum. Instead of purring nicely, it backfires and will not start. I fires some and then I will get a backfire. I have a 97 bird. Most eveything is stock excep my exhaust. I have never had this problem before, usually it just starts, maybe a little hard sometimes but it would always start. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

got the same problem with my 03, backfires and won't start. gunna look at the FPR

  4. I'm not sure the top of the line chain is what you need. Those are made for stressful applications like racing.

Dude, you're doing it again. Cut it out.

    Fine. I'm wrong...again.

Point is, I see some outlandishly expensive x-ring chains. You don't need to spend $$$ for those. For whatever they claim to offer, I doubt the cost/benefit ratio is worth it. The baseline X-ring chains last a long time with proper maintenance and are a better investment than those overpriced versions out there.

Mate, You need to buy the best that you can afford the price difference between a cheap chain and a decent one isn't even worth worrying about.

Ever had a chain break while your riding? It'll give you religion right away. I'll try a lot of different things that are cheaper, chain and sprockets aint one of them.

While on the subject The pro-oiler is the best thing I have ever purchased for the bike it has extended the life of the chain and I don't have to worry about the lube.

  5. I tryed running them blue bulbs and they got so hot it melted the adapter plug. Had to run home with the highbeam on thru the city since of course it burned out at night. I still run one for the highbeam since I dont run with that on that much and they do seam to give a better view at night but for the headache Im thinking its about time to look into a hid kit like all the rest of the guys on here

HID on low beam unbelievable, HID on High beam you can see two states away.

I very rarely use high beam with the HID on low beam, but out in the country wheres there's no other light sources the High beam HID is fantastic.

Don't have any issues with waiting for it to warm up as the low beam stays on anyway, takes but a minute for it to warm up.

  6. Dear Enquiring Minds,

    1. Front LED driving light (not hanging off, Pair properly fitted!)

    2. Carbon

    Dave

interesting that I find the driving lights on the US models annoying and have disconnected them.

do you have the wiring diagrams for the US versions? could probably scrounge up the parts so you could convert the indicators so they don't look like somethings hanging off them.

oh and ..........whats that wee lever on the front of the switch pod on the left handle bar?

whats that orange thing stuck to your windshield?

    :icon_biggrin:

  7. No Problem Tox.

Here's another pic of the dash too.

The res. covers and yoke thingy will be in this weave pattern, not the one's shown in the the other pictures posted earlier - these were early versions.

In the end all I'm trying to do is to get some bits for myself, and if it helps further the cause of keeping the Blackbird looking young and interesting, sharing a few around. Just want to cover costs really, rather than embark on some grand business enterprise. I just enjoy tinkering, is the truth.

    Ride safe

whats that hanging off the left hand rear view mirror?

and whats that attached to the ignition switch?

    inquiring minds want to know............

  8. A quick question.

Got my Wal-Mart battery just under 2 years ago. Yesterday, it didn't have the juice to crank. It's on the trickle charger now. I went out on the XX a few weeks back....not so far back that the battery didn't get some decent charge time. I wonder if it's dying on me so early.

Keeping in mind that now I'm running the HID lights, how long does a TYPICAL batter last? I opened up this one and noticed the fluid levels were low, so I topped them off with RO water and then put it on the charger.

Don't need a battery dying on me when on the road. I know how the starter sounds when the battery is dying, and I have noticed that it's taking longer to crank than when the battery was brand new. I know, "When in doubt...." but I don't want to shell out more $$$ for a fancy-brand battery if it's going to last maybe 1 year longer than Wal-Mart's did.

    So....

    1. How long does a typical M/C battery last? I thought it was 3 years, but it sounds like some are lucky to get a good 2 years?

    2. For the amount you pay, which brand/supplier should I go with, or is Wal-Mart good enough when you consider price and duration?

so let me get this right you'll pay extra for 'motorcycle' oil but not for a name brand battery......

I put a yuasa in my 97 approx 6 years ago, trickle charge it when ever it is sitting . Still going great AND I have HID's which have never caused a problem. also run the Strubel horn , Pro oiler and GPS.

  9. I torn down the bike a few months ago and now I having a problem remembering where they go. There is a line that plug up to the block under the left side carb(I guessing carb 1)? Also the vacuum line from the fuel petcock(sp?). I have looked all over the service manual and nothing. Also I have removed the PAIR system and pluged the lines.

search is your friend, here's the underside of the tank, maybe will help?
