  1. Very nice bike but out of my price range for a 8 year old bike even with low miles

    Thanks for your quick response.

    Good luck.

    Anita

I told my friend that this time of year he would be lucky to get blue book. He wanted more than blue book because of the extras. This bike really has been pampered. I hate to see him have to get rid of it, but he has some financial obligations that take priority over fun. The only offer he has had on it is $4700.00

  2. My 2001 XX is running kinda funky...

It seems to have plenty of power, but when trying to maintain speed, it seems to be VERY jerky. (if i whack open the throttle she runs like a raped ape, but maintaining speed is jerky)

    no FI light

I just replaced the plugs and that seemed to help a little bit, but the issue is still there.

I also just ran a bottle of fuel injector cleaner through it.

it "feels" like a spark problem...but i'm not 100% sure

any tips or advice would be appreciated. Thanks

I have the same problem around 4500k-5500k on the tach. Mine is carbed and I have tried rejetting but was closer to sea level when the worrk was done. The problem has since re-occurred since I moved back to Michigan.

  3. Not good. I hope that isn't that cold start noise we all hear. :icon_shocked: :icon_shocked:

My opinion engine out, split cases sorry to say.

I was wondering the same thing...

I know that the bird is notorius for a noisy clutch, but I didn't know anyone to compare noise with. I've been in SC for a year and have only seen one other bird. I know there are at least two members of this board who live in this state, but one is way north of me and the other sold his.

I thought the noise was the CCT, but when I replaced that, it got quieter but was still making quite a bit of racket. I hope no one else has to go through this.

  4. I was looking at that last night, but the guy has parted it out so I'll have to bid on all of the rest of the parts I need unless you can mount the carbs to that motor??? It looks like he has everything I would need, but then again I'm not sure of everything I would need.

Anybody want to buy a slightly damaged 98 bird engine with 20k on the odometer... :icon_whistle:

Question: How hard is it to convert a carberated bird to FI?

  5. Ok that is bad,, no way you can just change the bearing..well you could, but your wasting your time.

That motor will have to be rebuilt and everything will have to be checked and cleaned. Everything.

Pull the pan, and the oil pump and there will be metal in the pump.

Number three rod bearing will be copper.

crank will have to be replaced or EFR can weld and remachine.

You got a real problem. No clutch would cause that, that is a oiling problem. To low, bad oil, metal loose and got in the bearing,,something bad.

cut the housing from the oil filter without making filings,,,metal shears. lay the filter element paper out and look at the amount it caught.

    Bad very bad.

    Sorry

When I get home I'm going to cut the old oil filter in half and see if I can find any shavings.

Can the oil pan be dropped without too much trouble?

  6. It looks like the engine will have to come out to repair this. The bearing is actually pressed on to that shaft. I don't know if my mechanical aptitude is up to the challenge. I think I will take this one to the shop...depending on the cost.

    Any recomendations?

  7. Need a source for the new style Mototeck LED's I tried the Mototeck site,Tried to order, Couldn't checkout for some reason.Called the number,Oh well, i don't speak French, didn't know what the answering machine was asking/instructing me to do. Don't fancy your luck :icon_surprised:

There have been a few guys on the UK BB sites that have had undertail's from Mototeck and had problems with the LED's corroding and had lots of problems even contacting them let alone getting any help :icon_nono: :icon_think:

I've had mine for almost three years and no issues yet (knock on wood). Here's a supplier, but don't know if they ship to the land down under...

Thanks for the link. I already tried this company, but they only sell tail. :icon_whistle:

...and what's wrong with buying a little tail :icon_redface:

  9. Just spoke with a tech rep from Barnett, he indicated that with their kit the judder spring and seat are not needed... :icon_rolleyes:

Anyone else have any input. I know I'm not the only one to change out a clutch on a 97 or 98 model bird.

  10. Maybe this will help. I haven't a clue, but I can identify with what you are going through. There, feel better?

Oh yes, I feel so much better now...

Now what's that word everyone reffers to you as... dopplehead.. :icon_neutral:

  11. Just got the barnet clutch and I realize that all of the clutch plates are the same. On the 98's the first friction plate is recessed for the judder spring and judder spring seat. The after market parts are not.

Has anyone else changed out their clutch on a 97 or 98 model with an after market clutch?

I waited a month for these parts to arrive... I don't want to wait that long for the replacements.

I already have the cover off and the plates removed, I want to put it back together but don't know if I should try the install with or without the judder ring.

    :icon_pray:

Edit: While attemptin to reinstall the clutch I noticed that the main shaft had some play in it, which didn't seem to be right so I pulled of the oil pump sprocket and low and behold....

The attached pics are of the main shaft of the transmission. Take a look at the bearing...

    Any thoughts, Suggestions?

This may be the cause of this same noise on other birds.

  12. CCT arrived the other day, and only took about 30 minutes to install.

Just wanted to say thanks John!

I also had a question for the board: My clutch was and still is making as much noise as the CCT, I know that everyone here says the XX clutch is practically bullet proof, but damn it's getting irritating :icon_twisted:

The clutch only makes noise when the clutch lever is out. When I pull in the clutch the noise goes away has anyone else experience this?
