  1. Have you thought about putting it up at a higher-end or specialty auction? With the possible exception of ZXXX, this is the most trick XX on the planet. Those who haven't seen it in real life, the pics don't do it justice, and the bits and pieces and various acquisition stories are worth their weight in gold.

He's probably still polishing off the drool from when I saw it the one time in Red Bluff.

  2. Hey Joe- just point of hopefulness. My bike spent 3 days totally submerged in fresh water in 1999 during a flood. The PO had it professionally done, but said they essentially did a lot of the above- and 72000 miles later, we're still up and running. Good luck with this, small worry amongst all your other things.

  3. injected bike and yes surging is more accurate. When i put in the K/N airfilter on my 02 the lid of the airbox wouldn't close. It sat up about a 1/4 inch. slow tightening the screws closed it down. I later learned that there is a gasket inside the airbox that should have been removed when i added the K/N. I am wondering if the K/N airfilter is not position correctly and letting some air leak by. Could this be causing the situation im talking about?

So I've heard. I have a carby bird, so it's a little different, but others who have FI have noticed this problem before.

  4. I put my reworked forks in Friday and today I found a serious wobble starting around 85mph. While I had the front end apart I had a new Pilot Power put on and I checked with the shop today and he claimed the tire balanced perfectly. Weight is still on the wheel, right where he marked it. I also noticed when I turn the frontend I hear/feel a vibration, some kind of harmonics. This happens when I'm standing still and rolling slowly. Every thing seems tight, I checked the fork cap-triple tree measurement and it seems dead on at 1 1/2" on both sides. Everything is tight, could I have overtightened the clamp lower clamp bolts? Should I loosen one of the lower clamp bolts to correct for some possible "rack" between sides, then tighten it back up?

    Help!

    Tim

Tim: New tire on front, old on back? I briefly had a problem like you're describing with mismatched tires, but I've yet to run into anyone else who had an identical problem, I only found out by accident myself when I picked up a nail in the rear and had to replace it- the wobble disappeared. Of course, that was with Dunlops, too. I'd personally not loosen any fork clamps unless you're totally convinced they're over torqued or something.

  5. Randy: As long as you don't overload the bike on the center line- i.e. a loaded fastbag on the pillion seat- these are without a doubt the best tires I've had on the 'bird. Even with me at 240, the first set I had went just under 10K. That's highway, city, Texas summer heat, flat and twisty all together. I'm really sorry to hear they're discontinuing them, now I have to go back to experimenting again.
