  1. I don't think you have to worry about the loom issue leaving you stranded. Its more of an annoyance.

My FI light started flickering at about 25,000 miles, three years ago. I opened it up and the connector and contacts were very clean with no signs of corrosion. I put it back together and wrapped it with electrical tape and it remained off until about a month ago and I now have 47,000 miles. I again unwrapped it, plugged it in and out a few times and re-taped and it hasn't came back on so far. My thought is that it just needs the contacts exercised. Next time I will probably coat with some dielectric lube.

  2. I usually ride to work, and when the temp gets to about 30 and below, my clutch makes a rattle noise for the first minute or so, unless I keep the clutch lever pulled in. Sounds pretty rough.

It is a 99 with 47k, and original clutch which shows no other signs of wear other than the noise when cold. Using Mobil 1 10-40.

Not real savvy on whats inside making the noise, but should I keep the clutch lever pulled in until it quiets?

  3. Almost 50,000K on my XX, and while I'm installing new tires, I thought I would replace the valve stems while I had the tire off.

I ended up cutting the inside of the stem away and pulling it thru the outside with a heavy chrome valve stem cap off of my car with a pair of pliers. Used the same cap and pliers to install the new ones with some tire lube.

Is there a tool and a easier way?

  4. On chain wear some go by stretch to see when it is time for a replacement. According to my Busa service manual, count 21 pins and if the length exceeds 12.57 inches it is out of the service limit.

My Busa and XX are both ready for new chains. I've got 26,000 out of my second XX chain and 16,000 out of the stock Busa chain.

Just ordered two of the EK ZZZ chains from this place-- $126.00 with masterlink.

My XX had a DID and the Busa comes with a RK from the factory. We'll see how the EK's hold up.

  5. Since Honda discontinued the HP chain lube, I've been using the Bel-Ray Superclean, and although it doesn't fling off, I'm getting a lot of build up that I didn't get with the Honda HP. Now it looks like I'm going to have to actually clean my chain. With the Honda stuff, it was so light you never had build up, and with 26,000 on my current chain, I think it was doing its job.

My routine is to apply and just use a rag dampened with kerosene and wipe off the gold DID links to keep it looking good and leaving most of the lube where it needs to be.

    Same stuff?

  6. So now you can get a BRAND NEW, SEXY COLOR, HONDA for 50% off.

I'm thinking along the same lines as Dave. If I had room for it, I'd consider buying it, and I would give you $6000 no questions asked.

Rare and desirable color, very low miles, sounds like it been taken care of, and my be the last Honda of its type to ever be produced.

By the way, I still haven't seen where you are from?

  7. RC....

I almost hate to say this but,

If your Busa is only getting around 41-42 mpg. Then someone screwed up you map royal. That or you've made some other modds to it that have screwed it up...

Why do I say this..... because my buddies 100% stock Busa always gets 46-48 mpg.

That's exactly the mileage I was getting before the map. I was getting 47mpg at 75-80mph with Akro bolt ons and jet coated headers and everything else stock. WAY LEAN! I gained 9HP (151 to 160) and got rid of that annoying "buckin bronco" off idle lurching, that made it no fun to ride. It had the same crappy lurch, even with the stock cans. Seat of your pants can tell it pulls much harder when you crack it open.

If I want the mileage for a trip, in a few minutes I can just swap the plugs and be back to the stock Suzuki map.

  8. Find someone reputable that can do you a custom map. If you are after fuel mileage, they can make your map around your cruising rpms a little leaner for better fuel economy.

I had Smithers in Kansas City do a custom map for my Busa (Suzuki's fuel injection sucks when compared to Honda) and it was worth every penny. My XX with slip ons and no PC get about 41-42mpg and the Busa does about same.

  9. Before paying someone a grand for new paint, I think you could replace all the plastic for around $1500 and have all the decals already applied.

Then you could prep the old parts and find someone who paints on the side and have them shoot them for you at a much cheaper price. As long as the parts are just gouged and scratched, the filling ,priming ,and then final wet sand is pretty easy.

    Be careful!
