  1. Dion's right (as usual). I had a pair of Beetle bags mounted on the outside of my Venture rack. I used aluminum spacers to fit them. The bags sat out an inch or so from the side of the bike, but didn't present any aerodynamic difficulties. The Beetles are a bit small, so you're on the right track with the Givi Top Case idea.
  2. I just picked up a pair of XX rotors on Ebay at a reasonable price, with the idea of having them custom cut. I contacted CTS Moto this afternoon and mentioned that I'd like to have some rotors cut to replace my current front rotors. Their reply was that they only cut rear rotors because cutting front rotors was "unsafe". I was surprised. Are you? :icon_think:
  3. You mean we have to wash these damn bikes too????? WTF !! That's not what Hobi told me when I bought mine
  4. Yeah that was me. But bear in mind that the OEM price is $110 each.
  5. Excellent price. Where did you find them?
  6. I'm told that they must be off an '02 or newer. So your's qualify. I just picked up a pair off a 2003 VFR800. How much are they asking for the one's you're looking at?
  7. I recently had some powdercoating done. Once it was finished the old decals just didn't seem to fit in with the color scheme, so I swapped them out this weekend. It took a few hours on Saturday to replace them with new ones. The new ones were a bit tempermental and wanted to stick to the paper backing instead of the plastic coating. Anyway, here are a few shots. I started by heating up the old ones. Then gently pulled them off. Despite my best efforts they left glue behind and I had to use a 3M Adhesive stripper to clean the rest off. Here's what the finished product looks like: Thanks to Kiwimack for the use of his garage and tools. Couldn't do any of this without you Mack, thanks.
  8. 'airborneXX' Quote: I got a couple of disco balls and a strobe light here for you Brett !!
  9. I agree it's good service... but will you have to do this every few months? What about quality control during the manufacturing process?
  10. Tim, Thanks for confirming this. I'm taking my battery out and covering the XX for the winter tomorrow, so I'll measure anyway, but good to have it confirmed. I'll call Handy on Monday and have the universal set shipped next week. Thanks again.
  11. So, I decide to order a set of bike stands from Handy Industries, to get the XX off the ground for the Winter. I go to the web site and order a pair of CBR stands. Weeks pass and the stands don't arrive. Handy has charged my credit card and sent me an email confirming my order... but no stands. So, yesterday I call them and I'm handed over to a sales guy. He asks me, "do you own a CBR?" I say, "yes, a CBR1100XX, etc..." He asks, is your swing arm lower on one side than the other?" I say, "WTF?" He explains that their CBR stands are built to match CBR's that have a swing arm that is 5/8 of an inch shorter on one side than the other. And he wants to know if this is the case with the XX, because the CBR stands are back ordered until the end of December. If the XX doesn't have this issue, then he can send me a 'universal' bike stand right away. My XX is in a underground garage a few blocks away from my apartment, so I'm going to go and measure the swing arm tomorrow, but in the mean time can anybody tell me if this 5/8" difference exists on the XX's swing arm?
  12. Bought mine from www.pimpbike.com This is what it looks like on the bike. I changed the location of the indicators. You can find a larger picture of it in my gallery. It costs $126 USD, including delivery. A friend did the painting, so that will likely cost you a few dollars more. http://www.cbr1100xxforums.org/photos/albu...%20Nov%2005.jpg
  13. Joe, Thanks. I just ordered a pair of Handy lifts. I just need something to get my wheels of the ground for three-months, during the snowy season. Cheers, Bob
  14. Well clearly there aren't many guys named Joe around here, but the advice is certainly as sound as what Joe would say, if he were here. Thanks for the suggestions. I think the Heftys are a good idea, since I'm only putting the bike up for a few months this Winter, and not working on it when they are mounted. Bob
  15. Joe, What are the best swingarm and front lifts? I'm putting my XX up for the winter in December and I'm going to need a pair. Thanks, Bob
  16. Randy, Yeah, that's them. Beautiful. But you don't think they make them for the XX? Crap  I've written to their head office in RSA. Hopefully I'll get a positive response. Maybe they make them for the European market [-o< What did you put those onto?
  17. For our South African Riders... has anyone had experience with BlackStone Tek carbon fibre wheels? Any idea of the costs for a pair for the XX? Bob
  18. I've searched here for a thread, and I've Googled the question without much luck. Does anyone know of a site where I can find the wheel and tire sizes on bikes, Hondas in particular. Bob
  19. I have a stock shock from my 03, less than 4000 miles on it, if you're interested.
  20. I'm looking to replace the stock tail with a new undertail. I had a look at a lot of XX's at NEXXT and one that I liked was John's (John01XX), but he complained that it was "cheaply made". He showed me where the paint was chipped from normal wear and tear. The plastic was also thin and loose fitting. It's a Moto Teck. In an email to me today though he suggest that they've improved their product. Anyway, I'm looking for recommendations for undertails. Anyone got one they especially like?
  21. Porter/HK, Thanks for the great advice :goodpostsign: It's guys like you that keep me comin' back here. Thanks again, Bob
  22. Bought an Ohlin46HRCS shock on ebay the other day. I'm planning on installing it today, but it didn't come with any straps for mounting the resevoir. Do they normally come with straps? Where have you guys mounted your resevoirs? Any recommendations?
  23. XXBird, Yeah, that was the problem, I bought it from from a third party and it didn't have the documentation for the XX. And I don't have a shop manual yet. Thanks for the photo's. The plugs are easy enough to identify, it was locating them that's been the problem. If I understand what you're saying by "prop up the fuel tank" is that I have to detach the tank in order to find the plug. Cool, another project for the weekend. Thanks again for your help.
  24. Warp, Cool, thanks, you're a star.
