  1. Congrats man, I'd love to say I can take any credit for anything other than sharing information with someone that wants to do something for themselves.

    It's fun to start marking the times and then thinking of ways to make it 20 seconds faster consistently. Do that 10 times, and things are a lot more enjoyable!

    Keep it up!!!

  2. The Wyvern is supposed to have a nice sound and quality build. Actually, there are quite a few specialty shops that do the titanium bending by hand, and R's Gear is one of them. It goes a long way towards explaining how they cost $1000 bucks when discounted down, and are about 7 pounds light...

    :?

    I've seen them go used on auctions for $600 - 750, less with scratches from friction with asphalt...

  3. "Umm, no, you can buy it new, but domestic makers voluntarily "restrict" the bikes to output no more than 100 ps or so (they did that to keep the laws from prohibiting the manufacture/sale of bikes w/more than 100 ps). "

    ok, but the point remains that a bird with 100 ponies is not actually a bird

    Actually, the point of contention that you raised was, and remains, that the sale of bikes with a displacement in excess of 750 cc was prohibited by law.

    And, I can assure you that the above point of contention, as it was postulated, is bunk.

    Whether your classification of a 1137 cc Honda CBR1100XX is a bird or not by the PS output of it, well, I'm mature enough to say it doesn't matter... There are so many aftermarket products here that de-restrict and boost bike performance that the 100 ps barrier that is voluntarily met by makers is, effectively, ineffective.

  4. I was just looking at the STN web site they are talking about it too. Some one had the US#'s I think IM OK. Also if bike is under recall Honda is going to send a letter with all the repair info. But I would still like to talk to some one at Honda. How to go about makeimg that phone call? :???:

    DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE REAR BRAKE FORLEAKAGE. IF LEAKAGE IS CONFIRMED, THE DEALER WILL REPLACE THE PCV. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON FEBRUARY 3, 2005. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT HONDA AT 866-784-1870

    Usually the first step is pick up the phone... :wink:

  5. I just looked at this post, I have an 03!! So I flipp out and have to go look at my#. And to my plesure its SC35E-3600915 so I think my bike is not on the recall list. Am I right?

    Unknown until you call... the VINs that I posted may or may not be Japan-only numbers, and it would be folly to assume so... Only after you call will you know if you are right.

    Cheers, and let us know what you hear...

  6. I was under the impression that japanese law stated that they are not allowed to sell >750cc bikes from new, domestically. I think there are companies who send crates of bikes for a tour of a harbour outside national boundaries and then bring em back for sale :)

    :lol::lol::lol:

    That's funny! :lol::lol::lol:

    :lol::lol::lol:

    Umm, no, you can buy it new, but domestic makers voluntarily "restrict" the bikes to output no more than 100 ps or so (they did that to keep the laws from prohibiting the manufacture/sale of bikes w/more than 100 ps). I did buy my XX brand new and it was JP spec when I got it - last dyno tagged it at 131 ps, but I'm still running the JP spec ECU, so a US/EU spec ECU would boost that... Another project for another time.

    Considering the preference for Japanese to avoid used goods, I can't imagine any companies make money by sending new JP spec bikes overseas, taking the loss of price Re: depreciation, maintenance, etc. and then shipping them back to JP, and still be able to flip a profit... :roll:

    FWIW, my bike cost about $9,500 including Givi Wing Rack and 2x36e cases, and derestriction work. Current exchange rates would put it closer to $10,500, +/-...

  7. The XX has a recall for only certain serial numbers in the model years '02 and '03. I've heard on another board it effects less than 100 XX's, but that's not documented. :oops:

    Joe, the Honda Japan website has the following data:

    SC35-1000583~SC35-1000789 (207 units) are affected by the recall.

    I have NO idea if those numbers are restricted to the JP market, or include units for non-Japan markets, and the information is limited.

    They were apparently produced during the Mar. 7 2002 - to - Aug. 28 2003 period.

  8. Had something similar happen to me here... It's normally parked in a covered area, and tucked away so it starts just fine when I'm leaving home. About two weeks ago, I went for a ride and parked it, and it pissed down hard for a few hours.

    When I went out to start it, it made the effort a few times, but the clock was reset, and it stopped turning over. Fortunately, I was at the top of an incline, so I pointed her down hill and bumped her going, no problem. No problem since then either...

    My guess is there's a fuse set or switch somewhere on the left side that is exposed to water after a while, and this is only related to the starter. Wasn't there an issue in the UK about certain models that needed a wiring harness something or other on the left side replaced???

    Since I'm not commuting by bike anymore, it's less of an issue, but since it's happened once, I'm gonna be more careful!

  9. Has anyone been using the Vision Plus for a while ?

    http://www.ambulbs.com/products/description.php/II=22

    About 2 years ago, I installed Vision Plus in my high and low beams. An outstanding improvement in illumination, and I think I would vote it as the single best mod you can do under $35 or so to improve your evening riding. The low-beam burnt out after a little over a year, and I then installed another Phillips bulb that is not in the Vision Plus line (actually couldn't find VP here in Tokyo, not even through Phillips).

    The change was very noticeable as they cast a nice cool white light, not the wimpy yellowish of the stock Stanley bulbs. I would be happy to re-install the Vision Plus.

  10. Let me guess, looks like it has a few "dented" spots where the tire's arc isn't quite what it used to be?

    Insufficient tire carcass strength, riding a long while with low tire pressure, riding a big-ass fookin heavy sumbitch ride like the bird on under-spec tires... Will do it to ya every time!!! :razz:

    I do believe you've witnessed cupping in the wild... I had that with 020s as well, which is why I don't ride them anymore... I liked the tires, but it was an expensive habit... :???: :???: :???:

  11. Your legs clamp to the motorcycle to form the basis of your strong foundation.  After that, the muscles of your lower back support your torso, leaving your arms unweighted to control the motorcycle.  Hard?  For me it is.....especially in town.  But then again, I wouldn't use cruise control in town, either.  And with start and stop, you are always repositioning on the bike.  I'm speaking more of open road and highway running.   But your response leads to thought on my part, and an interesting theory, which I'll send to the pub when I get a chance.

    Joe, that riding style is exactly what the Honda Sport Riding Instructors teach here when they're doing the motorcycle autocrossing courses! It gets tiring in town, but, when you're really doing full-lock turn ==> all out ==> full-lock turn style, you do need to steer, and ZERO weight from your upper body should be on the bars, in order to have maximum CONTROL.

  12. sorry guys another stupid question of mine.

    did u all ever drag the bike til it goes into the red zone?

    Yes

    yesterday i did it (3rd gear, if i rem correctly) and maintain it around 5secs at 11+k rpm. not that i do it on purpose but i was wearing ear plugs and i was chasing my fren along a clear road thus did not not paid attention to the tacho. is my bike gone for good?

    Nope. Go do it again just to be sure! :twisted: :razz: :razz: :razz:

    Be honest, it felt good, didn't it! As long as the rev limiter is in place, it should kick in around 11.3 and feel like a light stutter...

    On the other sound, I agree with RodeRash.
