  1. It couldn't hurt I suppose. I have not yet and not had a problem.
  2. Solder and shrink tube everything you can. Also if you can, put lots of dielectric grease in the connectors. $.02
  3. Yes it's possible and not a problem. THe ballasts don't know what gas in in the capsules to create what temp' of light. It's not at all a problem. Besides, you'll see better with the 5300K lamps.
  4. In a nutshell, Use 1 or 2 garden hose washers over the back of the lamp where the spring clip contacts. They will take up the gap and hold the lamp securely.
  5. I've typed this out too many times. I'm not doin' it again. Search function.
  6. I got it Russ. You are fitting a standard bulb into a Metric bike. Yeah ,,, that's it.
  7. Russ, It sounds like you have a crappy lamp there. Here's a little trick(s) you can try. First off, make SURE that you are installing the lamp in the correct orientation. I have seen 1157 sockets that are a little "loose" and that allow the lamp to be installed 180 degrees out of correct position. When that happens the running light filiment is the bigger one running much brighter than the other lamp. I have also streched the spring that is behind the contact board to put more pressure on the base contacts. Just a couple ideas.
  8. Even though your bike is stock, if your goal is the highest MPG possible, you might consider buying a PCIII. I say this because my bike stock ran pretty darn rich. I have an 01'. Just a thought to keep in mind. You'll also possibly achieve the "smoothness" you mentioned in the throttle response. As for aftermarket sprocket whine,,,,,,, I think my bike is the king of that. It sounds almost like it's got a blower on it. At first it drove me nuts, but I have learned to ignore it. Speaking of sprockets, I just got a Renthal 44t alloy. I don't care too much about it only lasting 10K miles. I mostly use the bike at the track.
  9. I have to say that I really appreciate your efforts and intellegent aproach to this and other experimental questions you have undertaken with your project. Much more in depth than I am capeable of and I enjoy the learning as I read along. I envy your patience.
  10. Wanna race sometime ???
  11. Metters is Slovic for what now ?????
  12. Besides, the hydraulic clutches on our XX aren't the easiest to smoothly modulate. Ask me how I know that?
  13. gentlemen, i'm sure I can sort something out. I assure you I don't mess with numbers. The tests were done on a Land and Sea dyno we imported from the States, best dyno there is, got to say. I am now concerned about the ad thing and getting a slagging from members, so if you have a chum that has a dyno, then email me personally. (can that be done?) I'll then explain how the thing works. Cheers I wouldn't praise that dyno just yet. I have two 99 Blackbirds that I ran on a dynojet back in Nov. The streetbike made 138 HP and the dragbike made 133 HP. Two days ago I ran them on an eddy current style dyno. Streetbike made 122 Hp. WTF! The dragbike which now has a Wiseco 1195 kit, a five-angle valve job, and very mild port work made 170 HP!! No other changes and still stock compression with a zero map in the PC. Raise your hand if you buy that figure. :icon_snooty: (crickets chirping) I am going to try a different dyno shop. I think you might want to do the same. Then you at least have some back-up. dude i just went through same shit thursday when bike was stock it ran 135 on dyno jet dyno well it just had vance and hines slip ons now thursday i go and get a run on the ec997a eddy current dyno the bike ran 108hp after rejetting and syncing carbs ran 123hp bullshit!! this is fastest bike has ever been have a full muzzy ex system and tons of work the guy told me he does quick blips only he didnt have colored ink either my co was good though and bike is insane fast cant keep front wheel down and im 6 foot 6 ...320lbs he told me if i run on dyno jet ill get between 140-and 160 ??????? wtf..can someone explain my powerband is right from 2k to red line much more torqe low mid and top tuned bike great reall dont like that eddy current dyno its full of shit This reads like a bad hooked on Phonics commercial.
  14. DOH! Should read the posts a bit more carefully :icon_doh: :icon_doh: :icon_wall: Still think it is a fuel issue though :icon_think: Yep. Sound like a fuel issue to me almost for sure.
  15. Power is smooth but there is a slight flat spot. It occures at the exact same place it did with the stock exhaust. Just past the flat spot there is a nice hit that lasts through the rev limiter. Sorry, no 1/4 mile times. There is no 1/4 mile strip around here. But I do have timing slips from a few years ago when it ran 10.29 @ 138mph. I'm doing track days with it now. That is a BLAST!!! I just need some suspention upgrades now. Any suggestions???? 10.29@138 = Envy from me.
  16. Some 1/4 times would be bennificial as well. Especially the MPH at the far end. THat'll show HP gains for sure. That is of course if you have some.
  17. Great Video !!! I like the way the "action" was sped up while drilling. Ain't stainless a bitch!!! I hope the sound was improved more so than the camera mic showed it to be. I realize that the camera mic has it's limitations and that the audio was compressed too. Of course we are!
  18. I had went from D&D's ( about as loud as a straight pipe. Both boomy at low RPM and major loud at high RPM's ) to stock cans for a little while ( is the engine still running ?? ) to a set of Two Bros' Ti C5 cans. The TBR's are a little boomy ( slight ) at low speeds and at mid and high rpm produce a reasonable decibal level. They don't have that tinny shreiking sound upstairs at all. I'm quite pleased with the overall sound, but I don't like the way thay are constructed to hold on to the mid pipe with just a spring. They want to rotate a bit at times.
  19. It sounds like the next step would be to ceramic coat the mid pipes ( inside and out ) and maybe possibly even header wrap them as well. A lot of expensive experimentation, but invaluable data will be the result for Paul and others.
  20. But I don't think many people will line up to buy $1200.00 slip ons for a gain of 3-5hp. I was able to get a full 2bro system, jetting and dyno tune for under a $1000.00 and gained 7hp. For $1K , I'd better gain 50+hp at a push of a button !
  21. It seems almost shamefull to use that awsome machine in the dirt , but I guess that's partially what you made it for. Too bad that you aren't going to be able to make it to the Moroso event by me. They will be racing ( Drag , full 1/4 mile ) quads. Being that I have never seen that before, I'm kinda looking forward to that portion of the night.
  22. Ya' Know,,,,,,, I've only got 19K miles on my bike , but I swear I hear a "growling" from the front end at lower speeds. I thought it was just tire noise but now I'm having some second thoughts.
  23. My set up is as follows. I weigh in at 213lbs dress in "street" clothes, so maybe 230lbs in leathers w/helmet. Two Bro's Ti C5 slip on's. PCIII mapped K&N air filter -1 on front sprocket 1.5" drop out back and 1.1" in front. Front end strapped. BTW, that 10.375 run with 38 psi of pressure in the rear tire and no burnout on a Pilot Road. Pretty neat stuff.
