  1. After talking to another XX rider this weekend, I was told that it is easy to get well over 40mpg. I am getting like 36-38mpg. Averaging around 150-160 miles before the light comes on. I was told he has gotten as much as 230 miles to a tank. I am thinking he had to be going SLOW. And he gets 200 to a tank easily. WTH am I doing wrong? What can I do to get better mileage? K&N? Pipes? Not that I am terribly unhappy with the mileage, but, would always like better. I am not a terribly aggressive rider, but I do twist the fun handle pretty good sometimes. Thanks Rick

Well in that case I will pull them out and switch back to the 35W bulbs tonite. What you said was kinda what I was thinkin. Now that I got to thinking about it, I figured the 50s were too much. Joe, do you think it can handle the 35W bulbs okay? Rick

Okay here is the deal. I put in the battery and it starts and runs and all that good stuff. Turned off it is at 12.6v, running increases the voltage, so the charging system is working I beleive. With nothing hoooked up It will top 14v when revved, BUT, when I hook up the wires that operate the GPS and MotoLights(50W) Then when I rev it it only gets up to about 13.4. So I am wondering if the 50w bulbs aren't a little much for the XX. I haven't even installed my heated grips yet. I am wondering if I am not overloading her a bit.

GPS hard wiring, and Motolights 50W. Is what has been added. The other thing I noticed tonite, as I was running was the tach would die completly. and somehow the brake light would cause or affect this. Then when I revved it, the tach would jump to life. The N light was growing dimmer progressivley (slowly), and so I was about 90% sure it was the battery, but thought I would get your opinions on it as well. I will try to find a battery tomorrow for it. Rick

Okay guys so what is it? It is either the battery, or the R/R. Battery voltage is as follows: All voltages are +/- Key off - ~10.6v Key on engine off - ~7.1v Engine running - ~10.2v Personally I am thinking the battery. I will try to find one tomorrow probably. The only thing that kinda scares me is I feel like the charging system should be doing more than it is as well. What are your thoughts?Anyone disagree?

Like I tried to post earlier and got kicked off for some reason. I will probably go ahead a put a battery in it, because as far as I know it has the original battery (doubtfull as it may be) the bike IS 5 years old, so even if it was replaced after 2-3 years, that means the one in the bike could be 2-3 years. Kinda of an insurance thing. Matey: I will take that bet, because I just added some more goodies, and made damn sure the battery connections were tight, and clean. 8) I had that bite me in the ass on a car, and even once on this bike, it won't happen again. Thanks to all, I will be going home in about an hour and will tear into it then. Rick

    Dead Bird

Well she tried to leave me stranded today. luckily I was in a place where I could push start her. I know I have heard and seen some other issues on this. I got her home and she still wouldn't start. Seems like I heard something about cleaning contacts in the switchgear? Or something like that. I can push start here, but the ignition is dead. Whatchoo think folks? I am gonna check a few other things when I have time after I get home this evening. But I gots to go back to work. TIA Rick
  8. I haven't, and I doubt that the 3K miles the preveious owner had it required the replacement either.
  9. Believe you me, I have already thought of that. OKay, here is the deal. The balancer shaft has 2 o-rings on it. An inboard and an outboard. The outboard you can get to and change relativly easily. The inboard has to have the shaft removed to get to it. That is what they believe is causing the leak. And of course in order to remove the shaft the cases have to be split. I have the bike back, and will continue to ride it for a few hundred more miles, until I change the oil when I will clean the shit out of it, and probably add the die that Rich was talking about. I used to use it all the time when I was a wrench at the local Ford dealer.
  10. Well my bird is leaking oil. It is just enough to coat the bottome of the pan, and it isn't dripping. SO I took it to the stealer, and the replace an o-ring on one of the shafts. It didn't fix it. But nothing else is leaking it is coming from this general direction. SO they tell me the leak is internal. Meaning in order to finish looking into it, they would have to split the cases, and go internal. This doesn't make alot of since to me, but I am not that familiar with the XX motor. So I am gonna go pick it up this afternoon, and it looks like I will ride the piss out of it till it gets more serious. It isn't dripping on the garage floor or anything but this just really really pisses me off! I haven't gotten all the details about which shaft or what the hell he was talking about, but he did mention the dual balancer shafts, so I will get the scoop this afternoon. What are your thoughts folks?
  11. It was tight for everyone butt you. maybe you need a bigger dick like grownups have. Probably right, I am after all Vice-President of the small pee-pee club.
  12. +1 I was looking at his steering and it seemed really loose to me. Of course so was his ass. :? You're one to talk, and we do have pictures to prove that one!
  13. Well I rode 150 miles today without a flaw. Got home and thought I had better check it out. I found that both battery connections + and - I could turn. not wiggle up and down but turn them. So they weren't terribly loose but they werent tight either. I am geussing the PO disconnected the battery during not being ridden. So I am fairly confident there isn't a problem now. But where is the frame ground you guys were talking about? I have to hard wire the GPS this week, and will go ahead and check that too.
  14. Okay a little history I bought my 2000 XX March 3, 2005. It had 3037 miles on it. When I test rode it, I thought I felt it die, and I looked down and the FI light was on. But all the sudden it was under power again. It all happened in a split second. I looked at the fuel gauge, and it was on E with the light on. So I thought, that on the curve it ran it self dry for a half sec. FF to today, I am riding @15 mph pulling into my folks subdivision, and I lose power, the FI light is on, and I roll the throttle a little bit and it kicks back on and goes, for about 2 seconds, ad it went like this for about 30 secs, I didn't think I was gonna make it into the driveway. Finally it flat dies, and I restart with the starter, and pull into the driveway, as it stumbles again. PAST: About a month ago, I was sitting at a stoplight idleing, and the needle on the tach dropped to 0, and the FI light came one, but the bike never stopped running. I DO NOT want to get stranded somewheres between here and Eureka Springs. SO please tell me what to look for what to check. If I don't find anything I may haul it to the Honda dealer 70 miles away, and have them take a look at it, and fix the minute oil leak that I have been putting off. So any ideas? I was wondering if I needed to just reset the ECU (can't I just do that be unhooking and rehooking the Battery), or I had also thought about a TP sensor. So what say ye oh you of all knowing XX knowledge? Thanks a million!

    Smelling fuel

That is kinda what I was thinkin, but, I am not sure. Mine will do it when just going across town. No mods. Haven't really noticed a pattern on where the fuel level is when I smell it.

    Smelling fuel

My bird is a 2000, and occasionally at stops I will get a fairly potent whiff of raw fuel. Anyone had this or know what I might look for? Or is it normal?
  17. You mean no one here can tell me the differences? C'mon surely someone has had or used both before!
  18. I currently have heli bars on my bird. However I am thinking of giving the Viffer bars a shot. I saw a bike with them and it looked like they were higher than the Helis. Is this true? How do the 2 of them compare?
  19. Almost sounds like to me Corbin is kinda inconsistent in their seat making. I am gonna try to make it to Mega, and to another rally in Ark the next weekend, I can't do it with this stock seat, so I may have to see if'n I can get hooked up with Richard Cranium and see if he will let me try out his seat. I gots to do something quick.
  20. But if I sit in the pocket of the Corbin, how much further back is it going to move me? Who has experience with the Sargents?
  21. Okay I have had the bird for about 2 and a half weeks, and just over 600 miles. I like everything except the seat. It is a brick as far as I am concerned. So I am wanting to go custom with the seat. I am 5'10" bout 210 lbs. 32 inch inseam. I though Corbin, but the problem with them is they will move you back from my understanding. I sit right up on the tank, and can't move back except maybe an inch at the most. My next thought was a Sargent. I seem to like the looks of them okay, except the fact that you have to either buy a spare seat or send your seat of to them. The price is slightly lower as well. I have had 4 Corbins, and have like the comfort of all of them. But am thinking about trying a Sargetn since they are a little less expensive, and I have heard good things about them. I am going to try to make it over to MEGA for at least a day, anyone gonna be there with a Sargent seat I can check out, I am sure there will be more than one Corbin. What are your thoughts?
  22. http://www.colorrite.com/ They don't get much better than this.

    Corbin Seats

Yeah, I know, that is the one I am eyeing really hard, I already scooped up the heli bars. Thanks JB

    Corbin Seats

Okay now that I have gotten to spend a little time on the XX, I do believe Heli-Bars are in order. Oh wait, I just got them off of ebay. Well I have also learned that the seat is kind of a brick. So I am considering a Corbin seat. I have had 4 of them in the past, and liked them pretty well. But my concern is the seating position. I have heard it is lower making it harder on the knees. But more than that I am worried about how far it moves you back. I sit right up against the tank. I really can't afford to move very far back. that makes it harder on my lower back. So, what say ye? To Corbin or not to corbin? Maybe a Sargent is in order.
