  1. My sister is 45. I hate admitting it but shes not a good person - but shes my sister.

I last saw her on one of my runs through AZ when I dropped in on my mom (sister still lives with her). She's maybe 5'2" and had to be 320+lbs. She has been diabetic since age 8 - and never managed it worth a fuck.

She got really really sick in January and was in the hospital a week when they said "complete kidney failure-irreversible". She's now totally dependent on dialysis. At her weight no one is going to contemplate a kidney transplant for her. Shes basically working her job to keep her insurance to keep on dialysis.

My doctor buddy and I talked about it - an otherwise fit/healthy-ish person on dialysis has a life expectancy of 3-5 years. That shit is hard on you. And she's in terrible shape.. shes more or less giving up and wallowing in depression. I'd fix it if I could but shes gotta do it.

Dad has been gone 22 years. Mom is 75 and pretty fit but having wear and tear issues. Ive always known I'd end up the last of my nuclear family - but I'm afraid that day is coming faster than I thought.

I have never done overhead squats and I'm not sure my knees could handle it. at 74 my knees are not what they used to be. I also tore my right rotator cuff a few years ago so my shoulders aren't in premium condition. I used to do a lot of lunges, single leg squats and barbell squats on smith machine but my knees aren't up to it. Now everything is machines. I do work legs twice a week.

That looks like a heck of a workout.

Planet Fitness does not have barbells except in with set weights up to 60 lbs. ( I think that is the limit) What gym do you workout in?

Otherwise you would have to use a smith machine.

This is what i found for overhead squats.

My neighborhood has 4 really nicely equipped rec centers - I go to one 200 yards from my house. My trainer works there too and the price is pretty reasonable to have her work with me. We got all the iron in here I could ever want.

Its funny you mentioned Smith Press. I have not used one before. She gave me some workouts to do when she isnt around and that included squats on the rack. I couldnt get near either of the squat racks we have but the Smith has open and I used it. I think I like that better - at least at this stage.

I think she's legit going to try and kill me tomorrow.

  3. First training session today.

I was feeling pretty confident walking in - knowing what I've been doing and how its been going.

Took about 10mins for her to completely humble me and show me I had a lot of work I could do.

I havent really been doing anything for leg strength - elliptical, some running, some mountain biking. She starts me off trying to evaluate my conditioning. 4 sets of overhead squats (oh fuck!) one legged squats (?!) - shit like that. She had a lot to say about the form I was using for some the exercises I had been doing (goddamn!)

I walked into work a couple hours later with baby giraffe legs.

Time to take it up a notch I reckon.

Great job!! It takes a lot of work and dedication to accomplish this.

    How tall are you?

    6'1

BMI scales say I need to drop another 20lbs and its probably right-ish. But I'm stronger, more flexible and move so much easier. I went on an aggressive street ride yesterday and it reminded me how much easier and BETTER I can go fast when Im in better shape for riding too.

I signed up for once a week training with a personal trainer (young, hot, brunette) beginning next week for 10 weeks. Will stay in the gym 3-4x weeks. I'm going to push hard through November and evaluate again. Now I've hit my weight loss goal I'm a bit rudderless on where to go from here.

  5. My goals has been sub 200lbs. Im so fucking close - Yesterday was 200.3lbs. I have sort of shifted to more weight and strength training so that’s probably not helping but I feel like Im looking alot better.

Valentines Day this year I was in 38 jeans and might have needed bigger. Most of my work dealer shirts were XL and a few double X.

Had to buy more new clothes in August. 34” jeans are starting to be slack. I bought some size L shirts - had to send two back and get M’s.

Ive also done a ton of therapy and self work upstairs. Getting the mind right.

Just took an epic 5 day off-roading SxS trip with my best friends in the Colorado mountains end of August. Best part of the trip - getting no shit legit hit on / flirted with by younger woman in a bar we went to. Wonders for the ego and made all of the work this year worth it.

  6. So... I went in several months from 240lbs down to 205 - but depsite doing all the same things I'm pretty stuck at 205. I do have a scale that measures body fat and its slllllloooowly coming down even though weight remains the same. I'm doing big league workouts 3+ days a week - cardio heavy and often exceeding 1200 calories in 90 mins.

I'm frustrated a bit because I really want 5 more pounds - I had set myself a goal to see 199 at least one more time in my life.

Shit's nasty, and it seems about as unhealthy processed as possible.

I'm ignorant about such things so I dont know if your comment was seriously meant. These were recommended by a nutritionist who bought a bike from us - and ive just sort of stuck with them.

    Great results!

What are you doing to accomplish this?

    Welll.... lol

I had been trying to work out all through COVID. Elliptical a couple hours a week. Stuff like that. Never did anything for diet or anything else. Gained some strength and stamina but never really moved my weight.

Back in February I took a real emotional hit. Really fucked my head up to the point I couldn't sleep. I started with pushing my exercise up significantly - 1:15 in the gym every work day 5-6 days a week - just to be tired enough to sleep. I started seeing some results so decided to tighten down on the diet. For 3 months now Ive kept up the workout routine but eat this:

Breakfast - oatmeal with some sort of fruit. 6oz of OJ (orange juice has always been my drink - sometimes 20+ oz a morning. Tons of carbs!). 1 scoop of GNC protein powder mixed with 1%milk and water.

Lunch: Solyent Green - 1 bottle. If I'm super hungry I'll have a few unsalted almonds.

Dinner - whatever the fuck I want. If the wife orders pizza I eat that. We started doing HelloFresh though and many of those meals are really good and better for me than the stuff we had been eating. I also try to dial back on the portions a little. Maybe I eat 3 slices of pizza not 4. Stuff like that. I've also completely eliminated soft drinks from my diet except for a very rare diet soda. I used to drink 1-2 cokes every day.

I've been using MyFitnessPal to track calories and exercise. Its not perfect but helps. Typically I've been 1300-1800 calories a day net of exercise.

The first 20lbs came off as easy as taking off a jacket. The next ten have been slower - and now that my brainfog has started to clear I've found I'm slacking slightly too compared to what I was doing. I'm still losing weight but not nearly at the pace I was. My goal is to continue like I am still I see 199 again - then I'm to shift my fitness into a bit of muscle building phase. I'd like to put on some arm and shoulders etc.

It could well be the emotional stress I was under at the start contributed to my initial weight loss - but at least it got me on track. I've been riding my mountain bike alot and just did 400 miles of street and dirt on the T7 this past Sunday - I'm moving around much more easily and have better strength/stamina for riding than I have in years.

For perspective - I got married at 28, I worked out hard for 4 month prior to the wedding at was 212lbs that day. Ive slowly gained weight over the last 19 years to hit that 241 mark. That means I'm currently lighter and probably better shape than Ive been since I was 28.
