Well I am on a bit of a fixed income for the next few weeks til I get my first paycheck from the new job I just got so buying one will be tough for now. I kinda need to do them because the rear brake is VERY spongy after replacing the pads with some I had from many years ago (I do indeed use the back brakes)...I tried closing the proportioning valve (the valve that actuates when the front brake is applied) and then bled it normally with a 1 man bleeder kit front and rear twice and still have to pump 2-3 times for the rear pedal to firm up

How would you go about testing the TPS on the XX?

If you dont have a vacuum bleeder how do you do the LBS brakes on the XX?

Yes the level is good, valves are good and no fuel leakage. I did notice something about the diaphrams sliders. Two of them have small holes and the other have two holes. dunno if that has anything to do with my issues but could it be a contributing factor? I referenced some old carbs I have and the center 2 have the larger hole and the outer the smaller

so nothing other than marbles then?

Plugs are new. I did check the spark at the coil and yes problem was still number 3 after the swap I have a friend coming Friday with a tester so going to check that misfiring at idle and under acceleration...sounds like my friends SV650 no power as in crack the throttle and just kinda bogs down in any gear or any speed and since i am so use to the power yea like a 50cc moped to me! lol Carbs apart 3 times to solve this issue but not the first time I have had them apart. I hit every hole with carb cleaner... If I spray water on 1,2,4 it evaporates quite fast but on number 3 just kinda sizzles and evaporates no hoses on number 3...fuel valve is on number 2...not sure what a canister purge hose is. I will check the wires friday when I do compression test

What are the symptoms of a bad cam chain tensioner other than maybe noise?

I need some ideas please. I think I have been at it too long so was hoping for something fresh I might not have thought of. I am having some issues with my 97 carbed blackbird. Its running like its missing...no power at any speed...number 3 cylinder is not as hot as the other 3. I have had the carbs off and apart 3 times. I have never had issues removing, cleaning, and tuning carbs. I swapped coils. decrease fuel/air mixture way lower than normal (1.5 turns). I did notice debris in the float bowls so installed additional fuel filter on each line. Spark plug is black as if its too rich...correct me if I am wrong a rich cylinder will be cooler than the normal ones right? Anyway any ideas?

I have 97 carb XX and I just noticed a small coolant leak between the head and the case. my question is do I have to drop the engine to change the gasket?

Unlikely, or at least difficult to ID. In that case, all you can do is pull it and take it to an auto parts store to match it up...unless someone knows which make/model will fit. It has a funky off-set that makes it fairly special. I think it'll be hard to find an automotive one that fits unless it's an exact copy. What was the failure on yours? Not sure if it is indeed bad but I changed out the switch, the radiator, and the cap...hardwired the fan and still having boiling condition...temp gauge doesn't go above half but it boiled into the reservoir when turned off still

Anyone have a thermostat for carbed bird? (no idea if same as FI models) There is one on ebay for 15 bucks but I would rather buy from someone here to ensure it is working if ya know what I mean!

Or is that only for other bikes? I paid $435 for mine off ebay (free shipping)...i didnt get a tank cover but they gave me some shitty hand grenade valvestem caps, a cheap looking tank protector and reflective wheel tape that wouldnt stick to plastidip Each vender gives different stuff I reckon Mine was injection molded...my first set wasnt and it fit for shit...had to do major surgery to get it to fit, mostly with the headlight mounts which didnt even come close. They did supply some heat shield panels but wasnt enough to get reALLY GOOD COVERAGE...I PICKED UP A ROLL OF AMAZON. paint quality is decent with no peel. I did get some cracking of the pain down low where it was close to the exhaust header I would like to add do NOT buy them if the shipping isnt free...if for some reason paypal forces a refund they dont have to refund shipping according to a friend of mine. and ONLY get injection molded!

I cut the threaded portion and removed the nut and although it isnt as smooth a transition to use it it is at lease usable, Thanks

too low woild be great but mine are too high...at rest my foot slided right under the pedal I thought about removing the nut like JoWhee sugests...wil have a look late...thx guys!

you guys that lowered your pegs how did you deal with the brake pedal issue? I adjusted as low as I could and it STILL isnt low enough!

Just got mine on and love em...fit was about 95%...couple holes here n there and the underbelly wouldnt line up but otherwise good

Is the secondary master cylinder universal across all models? I found one on eBay for an '01 and higher and I need one for '97. Or if someone has a source for rebuild? Mine leaked all over the discs while I was driving..damn near crashed when I applied the brake!!

Anyone have a rear cowl hook bolt n washer layin around? Like a dunce I forgot to tighten it after fixin my undertail... J
