  1. initially 2 weeks ago was exactly that, flushe and no air came out. I am drawing a blank on how to solve the issue but something tells me the secondary cylinder has something to do with it. I used zip ties to tie the secondary cylinder in the up position to bleed...should I pump it like you do with the lever/pedal?

  2. So I am having issues where I bleed my back brakes and after a day they pretty much have to be pumped several time to firm up. I have got any leaks and when i apply mild to mid pressure to the front brakes the secondary master cylinder "chatters" back and forth (my '97 never did this). Pads are new galfer black and discs are brand new as well. Any advice on how to solve this issue?

  3. I have had my 99 for a few months and from what I have read over the years is the FI bikes run hot. on a regular day my temp gauge hangs right at the high end of the guage. It doesnt over heat or boil over and moving cools down to middle of the guage.

I've put blue devil flush in as per directions and then left it in there for a few days more. Prestone 50/50 antifreeze afterwards.

This really cant be the norm can it?

    Thanks!

I couldnt get the pic to upload

I have a new carb. No jet kit yet though. I'll be doing some research over the winter. I should get a lot accomplished when it's too cold to take it out.

Thanks. Although I'm not even close to done yet!

well let me know if you need one...both sets of carbs I have have factory pro jet kit and I have extra jets...my 97 is done for anyway

As it turns out, a float was cracked, and filled up with gas. I should have know when I saw JB Weld on the housing. I put a new one in there and she runs like a champ.

I guess I don't have to rebuild yet. Now I can spend the good days riding. : )

I only want to rebuild them because I'd like to change the jets, and swap out the busted carb. This bike is a restoration project. It has been wrecked a time or two from the previous owner.

Do you have the carb you need and the jet kit?

Great advice all around.  In the next week or so, I'll try each of these recommendations.

Dave, I have steel braided lines.  I can't remember the manufacturer...it's been about 6 years or so.

I know I'm hijacking this thread, but NoOne65 hasn't piped in yet.  Sorry for the hijack.

Just to clarify, this issue popped up right after the lines were switched to steel braided lines. ( And yes, I know I'm a slacker for not tackling this problem sooner.)  I would say the rear worked as intended for about 3 months, then the rear began to get mushy. I've bled the system countless times and it doesn't seem to help.

solved it..bought a new bike...but seriously, I never got a chance to fix it before the motor siezed

  7. I wonder if the front fork assemble sans wheel is a direct bolt on? the new 99 seals are shot but I just changed oil and new seals on my 97. What was the difference in the wheels? I seem to recall something about them was different.

  8. Anyone interested in a nice Cortech hybrid leather/mesh summer jacket. Jacket has leather on the shoulders, elbows and back. Originally only shipped with soft foam armor, jacket has been upgraded with full CE armor (elbow, shoulder, and back) from Joe Rocket. Two arm adjustments and waist adjustment. The white is a little dull but i am sure some soap could clean it up decent enough. Its size XL/46 $150 shipped

  9. anyone ever tried to change when the fuel light comes on? (if its even possible) My light works but I run out of fuel before it turns on. I suspect a few months back when I was trying to get all of the old fuel out I may have messed it up a tad while shaking the tank

  10. I used some rtv that was oil resistant (I figured oil resist would resist fuel also)  on the carb bowls after putting the jet kit in and the fuel actually disolved it into what looked like a fine powder and that clogged the carbs up. spray carb cleaner wasnt cutting it. to be honest I dont really know how long this issue has been going on because I rarely hit 100...just happened to be on a group ride that did and noticed it this past sunday

Is the airbox intact along with the plastic baffles, 2 on each side?

hmmm I'll have to check that...I just figured since everything else seemed allright that the box was on right. now that you mention it I do recall having issues sometime with the box not seating properly.

I believe there is a fuel sock (filter) in the tank, could it be dirty?  Could the fuel petcock be not letting full flow?  Almost sounds like it is running out of fuel. If it ran OK with those jets before, it shouldn't be the jet size but if this is a new install, it might be.  One last thing, I have had bad spark plug wires (on a truck) that wouldn't show up until a load was put on it in high gear (like going up a hill).  Not saying that is your trouble, just throwing it out there.

fuel filter is fine I just cleaned it when I mounted the carbs after cleaning and fuel petcock seems to be fine
