  1. I stand corrected: http://www.spine-health.com/conditions/her...eatment-options Rockmeupto is kind of a like a non-retarded Rainman, walking encyclopedia. I didn't know Sean Penn rides an XX. Haha, anyway thanks, its nice to learn new things about yourself. I always assumed my numbness in the fingers was from my lower back, not my upper. Kind of worries me though, my back is going to be shit in 20 years. Fun, cervical and sciatic. Dave Chapelle fans.... "Doctor said I need a backiotomy"
  2. Not trying to prod, but how old are you? Numbness in fingers can be due to lower back injury, or degenerative discs. They push on your sciatic nerve, which can make your fingers numb. Sciatica can run up and down your legs, and hands. I am 26, but have had back surgery due to a weight lifting injury, which resulted in a crushed disc. The surgery fixed it, but from time to time after long rides, or being cramped in certain positions I can get a numbness in those exact fingers. If on long rides the problem persists, I would suggest stretching the lower back when filling up the tank. Also concentrating on not arching the back too much while riding. You may need some riser bars. Do some research, good luck my man. Yeah, I hadn't thought of that. I'm 57 and had sciatica years ago due to a herniated disk. It hadn't bothered me in so long that I never even considered it. I guess I'll have to start excersizing again, which is what cured it last time. Dammit! It has VFR bars already so the risers I have already taken care of. Thanks! Yep, exercise is key. After the surgery I was lazy and slowly became round, and symptoms started to return. Over the past year I have begun exercising again, lost 25 pounds, and the back problems have gone away. If anyone wants to know the cheapest way to improve the perceived performance of your bike, it is to lose 25 unnecessary pounds.

  4. When I first started riding, I did not know about forum's. My VFR had the typical regulator burn out, and I was clueless. Took it to the dealer, got F'ed, and will never let another Honda Dealer touch my bikes again. It is amazing that from a company who can produce such an amazing product, does not see to it that mechanics who work in their dealerships are held to the same standards. Suck it Avon, Ohio Honda. (I think they went out of business). Why is there is not a smiley with a big middle finger?
  5. Ok, so I need a FPR for a 99XX. I have been on turbo city's webpage and can not locate one. I can only find one for an st1300. If anyone has the link to the one I need it would be appreciated. Or if anyone suggests one from another place, let me know. Thanks, Dan Also, I have done the search on this site already and have read up plenty. This is why I went to turbo city. Is there is a write up on how to exactly change this part out. I pulled the fairings and propped up the tank, but my service manual is shitted up and vague.
  6. How about some pictures. I took off the side fairings. It started the bike(it started right up) probably because of low fuel, and not leaking into a cylinder. I wanted the bike to leak again like it did after a hard ride, but I did not want it run too long with fuel in the oil. Here is what I was greeted with when removing the side fairings. Oil on the inside of both fairings foam and crud(foam) caked onto the Radiator Tube. I can not locate where this leak could have came from though.
  7. Many of you have viewed my first 2 posts about the "possibly getting screwed" and then onto the "oil leak". If so, skip the first long boring paragraph. For those that have not, read on. Recently bought a 99' blackbird. Two days after own with about 150 miles under the belt from me, the engine kind of seized when trying to start. I instantly thought, oh great. Anyway, bike started, road to work, started at lunch, started when left to go home. Bike did same seizing thing the next morning, got it running, I took my woman for a ride and put in the garage for the night. After talking to people on the forum, it was determined that my Fuel pressure regulator is bad, has been draining gas into the crankcase, making the oil shitty. THEN the next day I noticed what looked like an oil leak under the bike. I bent over, felt it, determined it was oil and decided I had a whole new problem. Left the oil there, closed the garage door and tried to block it out of the head because I was going to be gone for a week or so. So I leave for over a week on business. And when I come back the oil spill is kind of like dried up, with no residue leftover, just a dark look to it. When I felt the oil from the original leak, it was greasy, gritty, and viscous. And now it is dried. I assumed motor oil WOULDN'T dry into nothing. Or does the oil slowly seep outwards making the spot bigger? My highest hopes are that it was not an oil leak but a fuel leak from a shitty FPR, and the fuel leaked down the inside of dirty fairing, picking up enough shit and gritty stuff, so that when it had leaked it may have felt a little like oil. (it smelled like fuel, but remember, there is fuel in my oil from the FPR). I have never had a vehicle which leaked oil before, and anytime I have spilled oil I would clean it up right away. So about the supposed oil leak. What does an oil leak that is roughly 1 foot long by 6 inches look like after a week on a smooth concrete garage floor??? Wouldn't it leave behind a residue? I am going to take it apart here soon, but I would like to fix the tank, the FPR, change the oil/filter and be done with it. Rather than starting it back up to find an oil leak.
  8. It was getting such poor fuel mileage that I had went through every bit of the fuel which was in it, and then some fresh fuel. I shifted up when trying to bump start, but you are right even in second it would be difficult. Although, I have done it in first on my 750 VFR. I know its bad but.... don't act like you all haven't done it. I am nearly sure it is hydraulic lock. I have just got back from a business trip and will be taking the fairings off in just a little bit, and then hopefully onto the tank and FPR. I have to leave again soon for a vaca, and then more traveling, this is going to be awhile. I will update whenever I figure out what the hell is going on.
  9. Welcome to CBR1100XX.ORG mother fucker haha nice to be here
  10. I believe the suggestions for changing the oil twice may be stemming from the fact that; having fuel in your oil, and running your motor, will cause a significant amount of wear, leaving behind more crap in the oil. Changing twice will help to clean out these extra deposits and concetrated dirty oil. Anyone else have some educated opinion on this? Because mine is just theoretical BS coming out my ass. That, and my position is to change oil/filter NOW with CHEAP oil, not the good stuff. Once you've fixed it, change it again with the good stuff. Completely agree, you can feel the difference of the hum of a freshly cleaned engine. BTW can you take the photo of me out of your avatar please?
  11. Tank Cleaning, check. Yes neutral light is on when I try to start. No offense to you but I know the obvious checks. I might be young but I have been riding only Hondas for about 6 years and have an engineering degree(I am not bragging, I can tell there are many well educated riders on the forum, but in many posts I have noticed some people talking down to new people on the forum). There is probably so much fuel in the oil that it is seizing up a little, no bueno. When I get back from my trip I am going tear this bad boy apart. I am selling my VFR and putting my money and effort into the blackbird. Love both bikes, but I love the power more. Again, I do appreciate all responses, and thanks for everyone's help.

  13. Lake Forest, CA I'm a few miles north, I'll be happy to come by and see if we can solve it. Send me a PM if you want. Will do, I appreciate it. I am going out of town here for about 2-3 weeks on tuesday and have to put this on the back burner for a minute. Gotta make money to spend money. It's lame.
  14. No popcorn needed. This is a known issue on the FI birds, as the wonderfulness known as ethanol enriched fuel causes the diaphram (sp) to be breached, causing the engine to fill with fuel through the vaccuum lines. My daily bike filled all 4 cylinders up, two of them were actually filled all the way past the throttle body butterflies. I caught the dragbike early, as it sits a lot and the fuel actually ate through the vaccuum line and you could smell the gas leaking. Well I am glad I signed up here. I would have never even thought to have checked the oil for fuel in the first place, never heard of it happening. I am surprised it hasnt already seized up for good, considering the amount of miles I have put on it with basically a 2 stroke mixture in my crankcase. I am pretty sure all cylinders are firing. I mean, I know i just upgraded from a VFR, but the BIRD feels like a rocket on 2 wheels... it must be firing all cylinders. Definitely doing the oil change twice, I have actually done this before with bikes I have purchased used. I love the idea of perfectly clean oil in my crank. It would be like if you were at a bar, and the bartender took someone else's finished pint with a little bit still left at the bottom, and then filled your beer up on top of that and gave it to you. I want it rinsed and washed. anyway, FPR, fuel injector cleaner, oil change twice, and do something about the rusty tank. Thanks All
  15. Here is what I would do: 1. Remove the gas tank, remove the fuel pump from the tank, and get all of the rust out. Put some pea gravel in it, shake, clean, repeat as necessary. 2. Replace Fuel pressure regulator. They are not very expensive. 3. Change engine oil. (I'm sure you already knew to do this one.) 4. Have fuel injectors professionally cleaned or at least run some Sea-Foam additive in the tank after re-assembly. A fair amount of work, I know, but I think it would be for the best. You'll have her purring like a kitten in no time. The Bird is very reliable, but abuse (or non-use) almost always trumps reliability. Thanks man, sounds like a good plan. I have a feeling this bike sat for quite some time, most likely owned by someone who lives very close to the ocean, considering all of the oxidation on nearly all components.
  16. After a little help diagnosing from Rockmeupto125..... I have found that there is fuel in my oil. The engine basically seizes when I try to start it, and after hitting the starter a few times.... it turns over and starts right up. THIS can not be good obviously. Rockmeupto125 suggested I need a new fuel pressure regulator. Read up on this, and it very well might be the case. Does anyone else have history of a similar problem? If so, what did you do to fix it. Bought the bike 3 days ago, because of the reliability of the bird... I did not want to have to touch it, so much for that. Im sad, haha. 99' 11000 miles.
  17. Well thanks for all your help everyone. I will just continue to read and ride, hoping the sticking goes away with some more miles. Rockmeupto125, thanks for taking the time to fully evaluate each question.
  18. Thanks I appreciate this one, because I did contemplate it. I tipped my VFR over awhile back, layed over in the back of a truck for 40 minutes... It would not start and I thought I was screwed. Tried to start it again the next day... fired right up. Anyway, if this were the case, your saying one of my cylinders is possibly being flooded overnight? Causing it to basically jam. But why would it start very cleanly after shifting back forth between gears, and rocking from front to back while in gear, then shifting back to neutral and it then it starts?
  19. Story, I have a 94' VFR, and a 97' Magna, I needed to upgrade for some more power. Being devoted to Honda's, obviously the Blackbird was the choice. Anyway, I go to check the bike out, it was a 99 listed for 3000, with 11000 miles.(Instantly draws my attention, as well as suspicions). So he lets me test ride it and all, no problem. It had been dropped twice, once on each side, but you wouldnt know unless you looked for it. It looks as if it sat outside for quite awhile, aluminum oxidizing, rust on lower triple tree, dirty interior areas, rust on the inside of the gas tank. So the bike seemed to run fine after riding it, idled well, shifted well, etc. I brought my voltmeter, checked the voltage across the battery terminals at 4k RPM's, good to go...... so I thought. Talked him down to 2800, awesome deal for 99 blackbird with 11000 miles. (He says just installed new spark plugs right before i got there.) Bike rides home just fine, pulls like a bastard, etc... Until I look down past the guages and see the front right fork has a small leak, YAY! first big problem, didnt check enough before purchase. Oh well I figure it is the seals, and hopefully not front fork damage from running into something head on.(It had touch up paint on the front fender). So I take all of this with stride and say screw it, I put about 150 miles on it the first day. Next morning I wake up to take the bike to work, I hit turn key, hit starter, it turns half way and all of sudden just stops. (The battery has plenty of power) It feels almost as if the engine has seized. So I get off, shift it into first and give it a little run and bump.... tire just skids and doesnt turn over. Turns over easier in a higher gear, so I tried the same method with the same result. (Getting scared). Shift back to neutral, back to second, and back down to neutral, starts right up!!! WHAT THE HELL??? I have never heard of anything like this. So after it started, I rode to work, thinking 'crap....this is going to happen when I try to go home after work'. Sure enough, go outside, turn the key engine turns halfway over and get stuck. Get off shift up and down from second, move bike back and forth to try and work the gears around, after a little tinkering it start again and rides right home. So questions on this... Would not waiting for the fuel pump go through its full cycle cause the bike to seize up? Would a shitty clutch cause this? Would low quantity of dirty hydraulic fluid in the clutch line cause this? What the hell is going on here. I have 2 other bikes and this has never happened. Also, I have never had a fuel injected bike. If you dont let it warm up at idle for a minute, will it be a little stuttery at low rpm's for a few minutes? I am just worried about the engine seizure, or gears being stuck.. or other crap. Tranny can be a little clunky. Help Please???? Thanks Everyone
