  1. New fuel filters.New plugs.New staintune exhaust. Back on the road again.

Had a clogged filter this past weekend, bike just stopped all of a sudden. I would crank, get a sputter, but no go. Wheel it to my post office, walked home got my car, tools, and gas can. Took off tank, tool out pump and filter, removed filter, and gave it a blow(hahahh). Pretty clogged. I had also brought starting fluid just to make sure I had spark. I sprayed this in the filter, knocked it around on the cement, repeat, repeat, blows through better. I walk over to the mountain bike shop, and ask them to give it a blow with compressed air, boom, good to go. I go back to install and notice a split in the hose connecting the filter. Ugh, go in the post office, borrow a razor blade and cut that piece off. Reinstall, fires right up.

Moral of the story, the filter was so clogged it put extra stress on the hoses. I would recommend replacing the hose from the pump to the filter, as I going to do this weekend.

Good luck, good to here your running.

  2. Solution.... find a low mileage bird, they are out there, just need to search. Spend 5K modding the shit out of it and replacing any worn components. Boom, good to go for 5K less than a new bike. I don't feel as if a new bike is necessary. Find what you like, modify to what you love, enjoy.

Honda will pull there heads out of their asses soon.

    That is a huge +1

Hell my 97 has 62,000+ miles on it and not a mins problems. I would not hesitate to take it cross country or put it on the track.

The only reason in my eyes for a new bike would be a major engine failure or wreck.

Some people just like to have new and shiny which is nice if you can afford it by all mean go for it. In this economy most people can't .

I have not owned a new vehicle for myself ever . My wife had always gotten the new car. I always have a used set of wheels.

Hell my Chevy Silverado had almost 200k on it and I love that fuckin truck.

Honda will come back once the economy turns around if it ever does. Until then they will just lay low and save their money .

    Can't blame them really. :icon_think:

Altthooouuugghhh... if they were to make a new one, I would likely be interested. Honestly I would rather drive around a POS car, and make payments on a bike. The new bird I envision would likely run up 18K with all the taxes and BS.

  4. yep I got your PM I did not bring it to work on Monday so brought it in today to box it and weigh it to get a shipping cost. My shipper gets here in about 4 hours so should have an answer then. Im not guessing on shipping prices anymore lol.

Its actualy not hicksville :) its Burnet Texas with a pop of 5300 :) and has not come out of the 60's yet LOL.

    Seats taken... name the movie.

Payment sent... Thanks SoCal, he hooked it up a wee bit as I guilted him with my Bday saturday.

I know what you mean by your town not leaving the 60's. I moved to SoCal a year ago from Athens Ohio where I went to school.... college in the middle of nowhere in Appalachia. Great place none the least.

  5. The bank angle sensor has to be done that way to reset it. Must turn off the key. I am probably the only one to have caused their BAS to trip on a ride. And not hit the ground. The way it works in the wiring a loose connector or shorted wire would cause it to do that. I looked at the wiring to see if I could wire around it but not able to. So I pulled the pendulum out.

    Just saying.

so when your bank angle sensor cut out during a low angle turn, did it effect the rest of your turn?

  6. So there was a Hose... inside the gas Tank... that was disconnected.....

    Wow.. that is strange.

How the heck did that happen???

That is what I was thinking... when I saw it, I stared at it for a few seconds, and said, "what the fuck?" out loud. Was happy to see a minor issue though. There was a little rust in the tank. I am guessing the rust grew on the the little clamps around the hose attached to the pump and weakened it. Replaced that clamp with a screw clamp. Also, there is no .. well.. nipple, haha nipple, on the tip of the the pump outlet. You know, like a smaller diameter area for the clamp to seat.

    2 new small problems:

I think I toasted my battery from cranking so much while trying different things. I nearly killed it the first night, trickled charged overnight, and then proceeded to crank some more in between different trials of what I read from the almighty forums.

2 things were happening at once here - The fuse directly behind the battery is a little loose from me jerking around wires while taking off relays and what not. Everytime I hit a bump the bike cuts out. Mind you guys, I only rode to work today and back, I am not continuing to ride with this problem. On my way home from work I noticed my headlight dimming at lower RPM's, yay battery trouble. The speedo died out a few times(sometimes from bumps and the loose connections, and others from the crap battery). Since my low beams, and high beams are bright, but flicker a little, I am guessing my stator is good but the R/R is on its way out.

I will trickle charge the battery again tomorrow and test the charging system using a battery from another bike, and also fix the connection on the fuse behind the battery.

Now that I know it is at least running with minimum problems, I will take the time to disconnect, clean, and secure all connections.

It feels like a never ending story over the past couple months, but I have put 6000 miles on it since I bought it a year ago... for cheap. I knew it was going to need some work, and am finally running into the various problems I was expecting to encounter.

  7. I have a 97 bird with a Delcovic slip on exhaust and a k&n filter. I beginning to notice a surge only at steady throttle at highway speeds. The bike has almost 20k and has the cct replaced and has been cared for. I have also noticed the tach fluctuating when this happens. Anyone ever heard of this or any suggestions?

AHhhh 97.... yea, your FI light is most likely not coming on.

But still, vacuum tubes made my carbed Magna run funny like this.

  8. Alright guys thanks for all your help.

I pulled the tank, pulled the fuel pump, and I found that the tube from out pump outlet was disconnected...HOW?? Put it back on, took off the filter, cleaned the crud out of there with my starting fluid and air pressure.

Put it all back together.... crank it.... NOOTTTHHIINNGG

then I realized I forgot to fill the tank back up with that combustible liquid.

    She is up and running.

    Again, Thanks.

  9. OK, so I tried Rockme's idea. I defnitely have spark. The engine actually idled for about 4 seconds after spraying a good shot into both intakes.

So if the fuel pump is running, and there is fuel in the pressurized fuel line, and I have spark... where do I even begin? I am just hoping it is not the injectors.

  10. Honda must be taking in money from other places than bike sales.

They aren't in the lead in any class be cruiser, tourer, or sport. Hell I doubt they are even close in dirt and quad.

They are certainly charging for top notch bikes, while the others are actually making them and selling them.

Biggest money has to be in cars, but even Honda's vehicle line up is taking a toll with all of the cheaper, up to par, vehicles ie. kia optima = accord, kia forte = civic, hyundai sonata = accord, elantra = civic. For thousands less. And some have recieved better reviews. Honda has their shit together with proof of reliability, they will takeover again soon enough. Lets see a hybrid bike with batteries low to create a really low center of gravity, proper spacing for weight distribution, and huge torque from an electric motor. Or a plug in... it is all going to happen sooner or later.

  11. if you can connect a timing light to one of the sparkplug leads that should let you know if your getting power to the plug.sounds like a fuel blockage somewhere to me though.

I loosened the main pressurized fuel line that runs from the fuel pump in the tank to the side of the fuel rail. I loosened it at the fuel rail, turned key so the fuel pump would run, and saw the little trickly turn into a much heavy flow. Do you think it could be possible to have blockage in the fuel rail?

I like rockme's suggestion to just spray some starter fluid in the intake to at least get a stumble and know I am getting fuel. Will do.

I will update after I have a chance to test all the connections, relays, and ECU with my meter.

    Thanks yall

  12. Bank angle sensor is good, I loosened one of the screws, turned it vertical, plugged unplugged, and listened for the starter relay. This eliminates one more. I havent had time to do any real digging.

Could this be an ECU problem? I am reading a lot about ECU's going bad after 8-10 years, so mine is due.

  13. probably no big deal.... I wouldnt be bitching but I have 4 great vehicles that are all projects as of now.

99 Blackbird - Unsure - I am mechanically able, but electronically retarded.

97 Magna - Number 4 cylinder not firing, likely no fuel, likely float bowl- will fix friday.

94 VFR - The R/R problem at every 94-97 VFR has, likely needs an entire harness replacement, and some custom wiring to not keep burning through R/R's. There is such a bad problem with this, some chinese company sells them for $13 on ebay. HAAH they last about 200 miles. - Will fix... somday

and the one that pisses me off the most because I cannot repair it myself and will get ripped off on:

2003 Jaguar S type R. A coolant leak that requires removing the supercharger to repair. I am told this is the most common problem with this car and costs $700 to get fixed if you are lucky. Also new front rotors but I can do that. Brembo's are not cheap though.

    wahhhhh

done crying, have to be back to work in 7 hours, sleep

Thanks for the quick responses guys, 7 responses in about 3 hours!? Nice.
