  1. I realize it is cooler outside as I just froze my ass off riding home from work at 40 degrees. The temp gauage on my 97 xx just barely moved at all. Even during the summer heat, it would get to half way on the guage only when stuck in traffic and as soon as I got in open moving air it would drop to maybe 1/4 way up. Is this normal or do you think I may have a thermostat that may be opening prematurely or stuck open? I plan on riding my bike until they are calling for sub freezing night temps but dont want to abuse the bird by running her cold...I did hit 5mph over on the way home tonight....(if the speed limit was 120mph)
  2. Went for a ride this evening and noted the following: Very confortable to have the extra leg room I am not a knee dragger but still may remove the curb feelers I returned home after the first 5 miles to adjust the brake and shifter. They were too far to reach. I used up the adjustment in the brake pedal. My foot rests on the kickstand "peg". Not sure if I will grind it down or get used to it yet. I'll wait until I get more riding in to see if it is a problem. I have been riding for only 3 years and have only ridden a VT750 Shadow ACE with highway pegs and 45 horsepower. I bought the Blackbird in August of this year after riding with a buddy with one and have him wait at every stop sign for me. I think the helibars and pegs have made this a quite confortable sport touring machine with over 150 dynoed rear wheel horsepower! Blackbirds kick ass and so does this message board!

    VFR Bars

If VFR bars work on the xx, does that mean VFR Heli Bars would be even higher? Has anyone here installed them or know of any problems? There is a set of VFR Heli's on ebay for 56 bucks
  4. The pegs are mounted and really affect the leg room/positioning. Check out the garage for more on the install.
  5. what year xx? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...sspagename=WDVW
  6. Buel Part #N0006.1AD Rider footpegs for XB Models. The dealer will think it is 25.60 for one peg put that is for the pair, dont order two. I ground down the peg mounts with bench grinder on top and dremel tool on bottom to try to take equal amounts to fit the Honda mount. The dremel was not very effective as it took a long time and the aluminum just attached itself to the bits. I used a 7/16 drill bit to enlarge the blackbirds mounts and bought mounting pins from local hardware store for two bucks. I did have to notch the peg to give the brake lever room. Any more questions PM me.
  7. I have not adjusted the brake or shift lever as of yet. I did have to notch the peg to fit around the brake lever. Will wait until I ride it. I have a size 15 foot so from sitting on the center stand I didnt have much of a problem with the heighth difference. I will ride today and tomorrow and post the results.
  8. Got my set today from HD dealer for 25.60 and installed them with little trouble tonight...here you go
  9. Price for the peg set from HD Dealer: $25.60+5.00 for 6 miller lites= cheap mod that looks and feels great.
  10. My 6'5" 310 lbs will appreciate this mod on the 1100 mile ride next week through Deals Gap, Cherohola, and Northern Georgia.
  11. I like the polished aluminum look. Matches the passenger pegs somewhat.
  12. Please forgive me for the dirty bike, I havent cleaned it up after all the riding this past weekend. I had to grind off less than 1/8 inch of metal as the Buell pegs have thicker mounts. I also bored out the blackbirds mounts to accept the thicker Buell mounting pins.
  13. Ordered a set of Buel XB9 Rider pegs from local HD dealer and installed them tonight. WOW What a difference just sitting on it in the garage. I will report any clearence problems after a couple rides. May have to remove the curb feelers.
  14. WD40 is all I have ever used on any of my bikes. Clean it with an old toothbrush and a can of WD. I have 20,000 miles in 3 years with no failures. My buddy bought his 97 XX new and has used same method. He still is using original chain with 25,000 miles on it. WD works for me!!
  15. My set of rider pegs were shipped today from HD dealer. I ordered them online. How much material did you have to grind off to make them fit? I plan on removing my stock pegs and measuring with micrometer. I have a dremel type tool that should work well making them fit and removing the "curb feelers". Let me know of any "hang ups" to be prepared for. I will post pics of prgress when they arrive.
  16. I have a set of Buell XB rider pegs ordered from HD store. I read a post where these were being modified to fit the Busa and Blackbird. Has anyone actually done this mod here and can they offer me hints to make it go smoothly? I am 6'5" and think these pegs might keep my legs from going to sleep every 60-70 miles. I have a 1000+ mile trip planned in two weeks and have been promised these pegs in hand by Monday of next week. I understand there is some grinding and a bushing needed to make it fit. How about problems with brake pedal? Or exhaust clearences? Going to Deals Oct 4-6, staying right at the gap. JBowen
