  1. I had a bunch of pics of a 5 star... i built a tubing bender, wasted a lot of tubing and built it ... I'll go take some more , bit bike is jammed against the wall....
  2. Are these pics showing up ok ????
  3. I just got in from mocking it all up and it all fits, i just have to figure out how to mount the shock resevoir, and im going to have to make a custom preload wrench to get at the preload adjuster, but its going to worK!!!!!! I was pretty sure it would but i'm always scared till the bolts go in !!!!! BEER TIME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Some pics of the f4i shock I'm building for my bird. I have got the spring, made the new upper perch, modified the resevoir so it can be refilled, and took a guess at valving the shim stack. I also surfaced the valve body for a better seal with the shims(sorry no pics as i assembled the stack before I got th camera) Its about ready to go together now. left to right , xx spring.f4i spring, ebaich 1092 lb/inch for f4i shock internals shiney ring at the right is homemade top perch modified end cap in the middle for preasure fitting extreme right is am extra valve body and extra shimms
  4. I use a a d2r with nissan ballast for the low and a a d2s with audi(hella) ballast for the hightbeam. The d2s is a hair harsher then the d2r. I used homemade adapter rings and jb weld to rebase the bulbs. Herb
  5. I broke mine loose with a screwdriver and hammer. Then after i adjusted i put a dap of silicone rubber on it to keep it from moving. I would guess the penski rings have a set screw in them to keep them from moving. Herb
  6. An f4 shock is 12mm shorter but and easier to come by , I have got 3 for about 20 each. I think there is that much extra thread on the uppermount. I have just disassembled the f4 shock and it has the same valve body as the XX shock, at least as close as i can measure the ports. The shim stacks are quite differents as you would expect. I just spent an hour measuring and rcord ing the f4 stack. I will do the xx tommorrw i was getting tired stareing at the vernier. I have a 929 shock too , but i havnt taken it apart yet. Im planning on using something close to the xx stack in the f4 shock, with a liitle less compression and mabe at bit more rebound for the heavy spring im getting . I have about 300 cdn in this project including 100 for a new spring. Im going to use a 1030 lb/inch spring Herb
  7. I just take off the fender, front wheel, then take out the bottom bolts, that hold the cartridge, then take off the cap and and pull out the cartridge, using a rag to help control the mess. I have never had problem getting the bottom bolt out., with the cap on . I didn't get it in tightenough once and it leaked . I have since figure out how to get touque wrench on that bolt and have not had problems since. Ive had them out 3 times now , goes pretty smooth.
  8. I think going to get a 18.5 for the f4 shock im building , as it seems like a good compromise and thats Phill from aftershocks recommended fr my weight 260 ish
  9. if you guys don't mind could you post your weight ... thanks herb
  10. If you know could you post what spring rate spring you are using on the back, and if you like and what you weigh... thanks Herb
  11. I looked at ohlins. com. I want to know the rate of this spring http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...sspagename=WDVW
  12. Have been able to drill resevoir , disassemble , reassemble , install fill valve, test to 200 psi , no leaks. I think the xx spring will fit with a lot of thought and a little lathe work , still trying to figure out how to build a preload adjuster. I need a real compact preload adjustment system.. and more f4i shocks in case i wreck this one before im done . Herb
  13. Red bird , I regret to inform you that your shock died in the name of science  But i think many parts will live on as they are mixed and matched with a f4i shock that it on its way. The seller has already left me positive feed back , so i trust he has actually sent it . Im also hoping to mix a VFR preload adjuster in there somewhere Acording to the ohlins website a f4 shock is only 12mm (.5 inch) shorter the xx so i think i can make up the difference at the top mount. The 929 shock from bay didn't show up and the guy i bought it off is suspended from ebay  He sent me a email today(auction closed on the 8) saying it was in the mail but im not holding my breath) It was only a few bucks , but it still pisses me off. Herb
  14. Thanks for the reply, but i meant rear shock oil. I think the stock fork is 10 , but i use 5 in mine with racetech vavles I've been hanging round the traxxion forum and they seem agree stock f4 shock oil is a version of 10 , though thet use an iso measurement there.
  15. Anybody have any idea what weight of oil showa uses in the xx or f4 shock ? Thanks Herb BTW after taking apart an old xx shock i noticed that the adjustement appears to effect the compression and rebound as there is no internal check valve.
  16. When i shortened mine , i cut the origional mount out of the rubber and brazed a metal screw or two (i forget) on the back of the mount and molded it back into the plastic with marglass. It makes a very study mount. Herb :???:
  17. Does anyone know how a 929/954 shock comes apart or have a diagram. I have info on showa mx shock but i havn't found anything on the street shocks. I am most interested in what kind of valve it has for nitrogen charging.(assuming it has one). I hear they are revalvable (race tech sells internals for them). I dont have my shcok to play with yet but i was just trying to get a head start. Thanks Herb
  18. When i looked at the ohlins page the shock they sell for the 954 has more travel then the cbr1100xx. I think im going to make new triangle plates instead of changing the dog bone , as i can make the plates for about nothing . I dont think this will change the ratios anymore then using a different dog bone, but i have a long winter to work it out Im still not sure how im going to make the xx spring work on the 954 shock. Im thinking i might be able to turn a longer perch to let it extend down further on the bottom of the shock. worst case im betting i can cut the xx spring down and flatten the cut coild a bit to make it work. The 954 shock shouldt need more rebound damping to deal with the heavier damping. If anybody knows what was done to a 929 or 954 shock to suport a heavy spring please let me know . I m think i will just put an extra shim, or two in the rebound stack and give it a try. My brother has a regulator that i think we can use to reload the shock with gas. I have argon that is more inert then nitrogen so i imagine it will work fine in the shock. There is lots of unknows but i like to play. Herb
  19. 27 shipping seems high but i guess they are making up on th 19 price . I think im getting a used stock shock from redbird so i will see what shipping really costs .
  20. I just picked up a 954 shock from ebay for 20 +27 shipping, and i think im getting a used 1100 shock to play with. When i get tehn in a couple of weeks, Im hoping I can mix up some parts and come up with something usefull... But most likely i will end up with a lot of useless oily parts ..lol
