  1. iPad arrived today. Excellent condition, nice case/og box & accessories/packed nicely, thanks Carlos!

I held my iPhone near it like it asked as my old iPad is too old to transfer, and my deets went to the new iPad seemingly fine. Then it did an os update and now I think it's restoring from an icloud backup of mt iPhone. Seems like any inter-country drama is non-existant thankfully.

    Woo!

    Thanks

  2. I pulled some back muscles early on during the pandemic putting on my fucking socks on a Monday morning. I realized that I had been a self quarantining couch potato the whole weekend and that likely contributed/caused my pulled back. After recovering from that I made a point to walk around the block at work on my lunch breaks. Did that for a year then my role changed a bit and I lost some flexibility to get my walks in. I found they gave me a reset mentally for the afternoon, very refreshing.

I had been using some cheapo Panasonic wired in ear monitors then upped my game with some BT Jabra Elite 75s but have opted lately for some older open Sennheiser PX 100i headphones. I like being able to hear whats going on around (behind) me to some extent and the iems were seeming to isolating. Never know when I'm going to have to go all kung fu in the hood with my birkenstocks on.

@Nova Scotia Mike I'm not sure if this is still the case: I bought a used ipad from the USA (gen 3?) yes it was years ago, I couldn't get it to work with my Canadian apple ID. This may have changed, but my friends wife (american) can't seem to get her iphone X(something) to work with her Canadian apple id either. That being said, I don't like the woman enough to see if it's still an apple thing or just her.

Thanks JoWhee, that never would have crossed my mind. Was the one you bought wifi or cellular? I think Carlos already has this one on the way to me ... I see what I can find out.

  4. Hi,

Inspired by someone in the Weight Loss thread saying they walk 30 miles a week (Dave I think) ... got me thinking about walking.

I walk my dog but other than that I do not often purposefully go for a walk. In fact, when I've found myself in-between dogs I recall wanting to go for a walk but feeling odd about in having no dog/reason to go for a walk. That's just something odd in my head.

Our bodies have evolved to be great long distance walking machines. When I've been stuck behind a desk for too long and I go for a walk I can absolutely feel my body getting back to a more natural state, my back cracks, my posture improves, etc. I'm not really sure how beneficial leisurely walking is. I'd guess there is some slight cardio benefit but calorie burning is minimal. I do find walking clears my head (especially so in the woods) and I sleep better on days that I'm able to get some walking in.  There's some Japanese challenge that became an unofficail health thing to walk 10000 steps a day, can't hurt, right?

Shorts/sunglasses, comfy shoes/sandals, iPod with good tunes, cannabis vape pen (optional), a dog/wife/kid and an hour and I'm good to go. All seasons. Morning, lunch break, evening ... all good.  City, woods, beach ... all good.

Do you walk? What is your walking routine, goal? Favourite walking footwear?

In this thread, let's talk the walk.

  5. Necro-bump

I recently started having what I would say are similar problems to above (inability to post replies - no window to type a reply) but clearing history in iPad Safari did not resolve.

My bedside media consumption iPad is an iPad 4. I realize the thing was released about a decade ago and it's capped/max'd to iOS 10.3.4 .... I'm thinking there has been an update to the forum recently that no longer supports devices on older iOS's.

I'm likely the only one rocking such an old iPad (run it into the ground!) that has this issue but I thought I'd throw up the flag all the same.

Wait wut???  Chickpeas = hummus, how is this related to a quesadilla?  Also, do you know the difference between a garbanzo and a chickpea?

Hummus, when made without oil, is real food and packed full of fiber.  But if you're not careful, one can has nearly the target amount of sodium for the day.

Another super fast real food meal...  Can of unsalted black beans, and a can of unsalted corn or equivalent in frozen corn.  Microwave, top with sauce, eat.  Most sauces have quite a bit of salt, but potassium chloride is my go-to salt without sodium as needed.

The quesadillas admittedly are likely sacrilege. I checked with my wife and she is making some healthy version of them she got out of a cookbook we have called LooneySpoons.  This looks to be the recipe: https://www.epicurious.com/recipes/member/views/chicken-case-a-dee-ahhs-1267629

    Yield
    24 Wedges

    Ingredients

      • 1 cup canned chickpeas, drained, rinsed & mashed
      • 1/2 cup low-fat sour cream
      • 1/2 cup salsa
      • 1 large clove garlic, minced
      • 8 - 7" flour tortillas
      • 2 teaspoons vegtable oil
      • 1 chicken breast half, cooked & shredded
      • 1/4 cup finely chopped red pepper
      • 1/4 cup chopped green onions
      • 1 TBSP chopped fresh cilantro/coriander
      • 1 cup shredded reduced fat Monterey Jack Cheese

    Preparation

      1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Combine mashed chickpeas, 2 TBSP Sour Cream, 2 TBSP Salsa & garlic in a small bowl. Mix Well & set aside. Brush one side of each tortilla with oil. Arrange 4 tortilla's, oil side down, on a baking sheet. Spread 1/4 chickpea mixture over each tortilla, leaveing a 1/2" border. Combine shredded chicken, red pepper, green onions, & cilantra in a small bowl. Spread 1/4 chicken mixture over the chickpeas, followed by 1/4 cheese. Cover remaining tortillas, oil side up. Bake for 8-10mn, until tortillas are a light golden brown, remove from oven, Let cool 5 mn before cutting. Cut each quesadilla into 6 wedges. Serve with remaining sour cream & salsa. Variations: you can leave out the cilantra. You can roll them to make an enchilada type dish as well. You can leave the oil out as well if you need to.

I would have guessed garbanzo and chickpea were the same bean.

Will try the bean, corn and sauce wrap. Thanks. I'm guessing there will be Farts.

Salt intake is a whole other thread, one thing at a time for me.

I have at least six cans of beans per week, but usually more like ten.  One can is about the recommended daily amount.  Done.  A typical easy lunch for me is two flax seed and whole wheat tortillas with 1/3 can of beans each, half avocado each, and some sauce or chiles.

There is pretty good evidence that natural, unprocessed fiber sources are more useful to the body than processed sources.

We don’t seem to eat much of anything that comes in cans. I’m taking it you are not talking about the kinds of canned beans I’d be thinking about; beans in tomato sauce or beans with pork. What kinds of canned beans are you rocking? My wife does buy canned black/kidney beans for making chili. And the odd can of  chick peas for making quesadillas…

Beans are the magical fruit …

  8. Those Metamucil things look like a healthier (than average) snack alternative. 5 grams of fibre per. Gonna keep my eyes out for them or similar the next time we go to Costco.

That above Harvard article says people should get at least 20-30 grams of fibre a day. I don't have any idea how many grams I typically get in, I'm guessing closer to 15.

  9. Yo yo, wassup my healthy bowels peeps.

I don't know how I missed this whole section of the org for so long but here we are, lets talk fiber.

In some very light research recently I've gathered that the average North American does not intake adequate level of fiber daily and I feel that describes me too. Fiber seems to be beneficial to health in many ways besides bowel health. Looking to up and loosely track/oversee my daily amount. Ultimate goal is to have no wiper shits. Well, increased overall Heath too. This seemed to be a decent general article on fiber from a decent source https://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/carbohydrates/fiber/

Personally, I've been trying to increase my veggie intake daily by including a cup of frozen mixed veggies to my workday lunchbox. I've also been aiming to have steel cut oatmeal for breakfast 3-4 times a week (have to define and rope in my serving size as a big bowl will have me running to the shitter) .  For about the last year, my evening snack has been a cup of frozen blueberries with a bit of yoghurt or milk.  I don't eat much bread or rice but we always get brown or wheat. Actually we would go for whole wheat options anytime there is an option.

Hows your fiber situation? Have you ever made significant fiber changes? Noticeable health benefits/changes after making fiber changes? Do you have a daily fiber goal? What is it?  Do you have a fibre go to? Do you have a fibre supplement? Do you have a secret weapon for fiber? What's the toilet paper look like when you wipe? How often do you have to wipe?  Where do you take your fiber info from? You get the gist, let's talk fiber.

On the other hand, beer is way more expensive and definitely behind US microbrews in quality.

I always bring my own beer when I go to Canada.

    Illegally of course.🤐

Its been a long time since I've had any American dope but it must be great now too; I'd like to have a few puffs of whatever is in your pipe if it has you thinking American beer is better than Canadian beer.  Heh. It is expensive here, highly taxed.

  11. Wow man 100 lbs down is no joke, we’ll done.

Do you have before and after pics? I always find them inspirational.

I took weight loss seriously once about 15 years ago and lost about 75lbs in about a year. When I’d bump into someone I hadn’t seen for awhile sometimes people thought I had been sick. Sometimes they would ask others if I was okay. They don’t say shit now that I’m fat again. Heh.

Has your skin adjusted? Mine always stayed good but others who lost a lot (quickly) mention having excess skin afterwards.

I can't remember the last time I craved McD's, but I think I know what's for lunch today.  Two cheeseburger combo, discard the bottom bread from each to create a double cheeseburger, perfection.

i don’t get Rotten Ronnies often but when I do I usually get a McDouble. Sounds like what you make.

  13. Hi,

    Lets talk wrenches!

I realized the other day I could up my wrench set game. I was reaching for my 10mm combo wrench and noticed it was looking pretty well worn. The set that I have is metric, likely a 7 or 9 pc, no name, open on one end and box on the other and I'm thinking I bought them ~20 years ago. I've never had a case for them. They mostly live in a tray in my rolling toolbox but sometimes they get thrown loose in tool bag and they've all spent at least a night on the floor. I might give them a wipe down after use regularly but a dedicated deep clean on them is very rare. They don't owe me anything at this point. I think I'd like to get a fresh set and move my well worns to back up/secondary/in vehicle duty.

I've been eyeing the *pro*consumer options from local retailers (e.g., Canadian Tire, Home Depot, etc) and am not against online. Lots of varied offerings with different aspects to consider; Ratcheting? Stubby? Metric/SAE combo sets? Sets with a good case/pouch? 6pt vs 12pt? Finish? Flex Head? Brand? Monkey? Thin head? etc

What wrenches/wrench set have you got or used that you loved or hated? If you were to move forward with only one set, what would it be?
