I've been running regular Pilot Powers on my XX with good results. 3000 miles is a pretty average life for the PP's on the XX. I'm using 2CT's on my 1098 and love them. I haven't worn out a set of the 2CT's yet, so I don't know how long they'll last on the Duc.

My original battery was a Yuasa too. This one is made by Yuasa but is branded Motocross. I hope it lasts as well as the OEM.

I ended up getting one of the same Motocross brand YTX-12BS batteries from the local batteriesplus store. I paid $69.95 plus tax, but I had it the same day. It was worth the extra few bucks to get the bike going again.
Thanks again for all the tips. I thought since the original battery lasted 9 years, I'd try another one.

I have a nice Eddie Bauer goose down vest for sale. It's a men's size small that I bought for my wife. She doesn't wear it, so one of you fine folks can get it for a bargain basement price of $40 shipped to the lower 48 states. I think we paid about $110 bucks for it new.
The vest is a quality garment in perfect condition and hasn't been worn much.

The OEM battery in my 2000 XX finally bit the dust. Where's the best and cheapest place to get a YTX 12BS? Has anyone tried an alternate replacement?

I have a pair of ladies Alpinestar SP-3 gloves for sale. They are medium/9 size.
They have been worn a few times, but they are in good shape. There are no tears, scrapes, or other defects I can see. I bought them from a forum member for my wife and she no longer wears them.
$25 plus postage.

I didn't realize you had a Penske. The shock is adjustable for ride height. You don't need a shim.
I have a Penske 8981. IIRC, I have my rebound damping set at about the middle of the adjustment range. I run my compression damping on setting 2 of 5.

The shim should help a bit with turn in. Installing proper fork springs for your weight is another relatively inexpensive mod. Setting the sag to about 35mm on both ends will help a bunch too.

I have a main harness for a 1999 or 2000 model. I thought it would work on a 2001 too, but apparently not. Anyway, I dug it out of the attic so I'd like to sell it. Asking $100 + shipping OBO.

It sounds like your charging system has had it. Get yourself a good troubleshooting guide to determine if it's the RR and/or stator are bad.

+1 for Michelins. Which flavor has a lot to do with your wallet. The Pilot Power series (or PP 2CT's) are great tires for the XX. They just don't last like a sport touring tire. I haven't tried the PR2's yet, but I plan to try one on the rear as my next XX tire.

The 42 psi is max operating pressure. You won't hurt the tire by going higher when seating the beads.

Congrats on your new No-Mar stuff. I've had the same gear for a couple of years and love it. Watch the videos a few times to get the hang of it. If you are working hard, there's a good chance you are doing something wrong. (I still do that sometimes.
)My tire beads usually seat easily. I never have to go higher than 40 or 50 psi.
I bought my last set of Michelin tires here. Sport Bike Track Gear They had the best Michelin prices I could find. The service was great too. Of course, Southwest Moto Tires is another popular place to buy tires.

In 34k miles the following items have failed.
Tool kit strap

The front brake master cylinder had to be rebuilt.
Front brake pads were shot at 12k miles.

Have you checked the Fault Codes in the ECU? You can find the procedure and the codes in the Service Manual. If you don't have a manual, you can download one here "Manual".

I've decided to pull the trigger and sell my beloved Blackbird. I haven't ridden it much in the last couple of years and I hate to see it just sit in the garage. As many of you know, my bike is in great shape and anyone who wants a Blackbird would be proud to own it.
